" four ....!! "

just writing to say I finally rode my 5’11 fish [‘prawn’] as a 4 finner yesterday …and , LOVED it !!

FAST !!

held in better

less slide

real squirt off the bottom…ESPECIALLY backhand [they were mainly good lefts yesterday ]

recovered / accelerated out of backhand reos [“off the lips”] better than with the twin keels

yes …nice ! … Nice, indeed !

For those interested [?] , the fins were …

back : - 5 1/2" base , 5 3/4" depth

front :- 3 1/2" base , 3 3/4" depth .

All four were fibreglass fins that I made …blue tint , front fins .

…One black , one blue opaque [pigment] back fins .

Hey Ben,

we call that set-up here in the states a Twinzer made popular by Wil Jobson around the later 80’s. They went really well and I was amazed at the bigger wave performance.

I noticed the 3 tabs on the main fins, smart move, I did similar many years ago on some keeled-fish and made experiments much easier.

Question: “what is the white thing in the middle that seems to connect to your (?) nose?”

George

PS. what kind of condition were you in when you drilled those front fin, fin plug holes, mate?

A misplaced [by a mate] fin box …I had to shorten the board to enable correct thruster setup. The “white bit” is unpainted foam.

I was good , my mate [who drilled the holes] had the wrong sized hole saw [ and revs] … Live and learn eh ?

colour … I LIKE colour !!

Awesome looking setup.

I cant see any beach at all. perhaps he tkes his board and wettie to the park!

yeah …I like riding my boards down the slides , and putting on footstraps and launching off the swings … [not]

here ya go then , “fuzzy40”…just for you , the uncropped version …so you can see where the ocean ends and the ‘park’ begins [about 150 yards]

"blurry44’’ ben

So Chip whats your favorite set up on that board? The Twinzer one looks great. how does it ride as a Twinzer?

riding a board (that you shaped yourself) for the first time is always a thrill!

Nice…

Joe

… where to start ??

Well, Ben , I AM partial to the 2+1 / “widowmaker” type setup …a 7" back fin coupled with the front two blue fins you see here.

And , I have yet to try the wood bonzer3 runners with the matching back fin setup …

So far , the “twinzer” setup feels really comfortable …positive and drivey through turns . [ I liken it to my 10" wide concaved skate deck , with wide trucks and wheels , in a good bowl …grippy , fast , smooth ] .

…that said , I have a few more fins to try out yet !!

ben

I’ll have to switch the twinzer setup around at some stage too…to see / feel the difference the smaller fins may make in the back plugs , with the big twinnies at the front . And , I still like your keels , combined with fins 4 finner setup idea too , Ben …

Just wondering what degree your Twinzer fins are set at. Do the little fins lean out more than the big ones?

I rode a 6’8" twinzer that Shipman shaped and I liked it but he sold it so I can’t borrow it any more.

Have fun

Ray

hi Ray !

Because they are F.C.S. plugs [ no / not much cant built in ] , both sets of fins are at the same angle…

I COULD make some moulded bases for my other homemade fcs fins , and cant the fins somewhat . At the moment though , these seem to be working well , and I probably need to keep surfing these for a while .

ben

I WOULD think about putting more plugs further back [towards the tail] , to see what effect more space between the fins ['quad / 4 finner setup?] would have . Maybe on the NEXT board …

gee you west coast guys are sensitive about your parks.wouldn’t you rather take the dog instead?

hi Zappa !

unfortunately , “Rex” is just a little too short to stand on …

My ‘prawn’ seems to handle my weight a bit better, for some reason.

Conclusion …four fins work better than four legs for riding waves ?

ben

(mind you … some of my ‘‘friends’’ have been known to call my boards “dogs” …)

Nice setup Chipper!!!

thanks Cameron !

they’re really FUN !! [Don’t know why I didn’t ride this setup a lot earlier …years ago …]

ben

I did one of the lowest backhand bottom turns I can remember doing for quite a few years on this setup this arvo [afternoon] …and it felt really nice to have TWO inside fins connected .

It flowed through the turn , rather than doing the usual “skip” and spin out that it does as a twin fin .

ben

perhaps my mate captured the moment …if he wasn’t filming some young lady’s rear end at the time ? [something he has been known to do on more than one occassion !]
