Glassing on A Saturday Afternoon In San Diego

I think that’s what LeeV has; not sure what his plans are for it, if anything. He got it from Herb I believe. Not sure where he got them from…

If I could get one I’d be stoked just to put a rough rocker and outline to it (because I don’t have rocker or outline templates anymore), the rails and other features are easy. Then at a later time I could do a composite balsa skin.

I would LOVE to see how that’s done…

Yeah Lee - get this: The dude is a fellow customer at “the coffee dock” (S.C & Narragansett). The gal there (Tatiana) is a friend and heard my whole story, so when another customer came by and said, “my buddy can’t have any caffeine - 'Dr.‘s Orders’ - because he just had a big heart attack while surfing down at the Cliffs”, she freaked!

Tatiana said “I know the guys who saved him!”. The customer replied that her friend had been looking for us since he got out of the hospital. So she gave this person my number.

One thing led to another and the guy called me. He’s an OB local, his name is Steve, and he’s doing great after surgery. He’s now (get this) an American Red Cross spokesperson. Doing talks about how important CPR and other lifesaving techniques are… “living proof” as he puts it. He’s gonna come over for a bar-b-que in upcoming weeks when things mellow out for him. What a freakin’ trip, eh?

Whale-of-a-Fish

While at Keith’s the idea morphed into something quite different. Anyway, I took some pic’s just before cutting in the rail bands.

Keith, I ran into Skip Frye at La Jolla Friday (when they were doing the Good Morning America shoot) and asked him about his large fish. I guess they are getting on the Fish Train and are producing the traditional under 6-0 versions

Too late by a couple weeks. I did not see these seminars until now. Man did i blow it. I was wondering if there are going to be more. Have done a couple boards already and was looking to do another. But i sure could use some live help or guidance by an experienced boardman. Have read many of your guy’s posts. Please have another day. Thanks

We will. Only question is timing… possibly between Xmas and New Years.

If not, then January.

just checking to see if we can start throwing some dates out for another class. Its mid december and you said maybe january. Thanks Josh

Hey Keith,

I saw your post on the vacuuming thread. Are you thinking of vacuum bagging? I would love to check out the process if you’re going to do it.

Rio

OK, well what’s the interest level out there? With Xmas on a weekend, doing another Saturday one is a little tricky.

Anybody want to have one of these on, say, Wed after Xmas? that’s the 29th…

I am interested in the vacuum bagging deal but it will be a while to assemble all that gear…

I am in for that wed if there is enough interest from other people although no one else has replied. But if possible Lets go for it. Just a little background, i saw the recent pics of your shortboards and am very impressed. I want to shape a longboard probably pretty close to the same as the one 10over just made. Josh

I’d love to. I’m getting back from vacation on the 29th, and the going “camping” at Campland, but can definitely make it if you decide to do it then.

I’m interested in sitting in. Is there still room?

As a first attempt at organizing a Swaylock’s monthly seminar/tip-trading session/post-surfing-get-together, LeeV and I are planning to have an afternoon of glassing in San Diego on April 24th. Can handle 1/2 dozen or so people and will hopefully do a couple of layups. If you’re interested, respond here, we’ll see what it turns into.

hi Keith !

…I know this was a LONG time ago now [I just came upon this thread tonight] …

but…HOW did it go ??

have you had / are you planning another one since ?

I ask because although I am in australia, I was wondering if anyone could maybe video this sort of ‘stuff’ for ''swaylocks footage", perhaps ?? [wish I was there…]

I, personally, would LOVE to see a resin swirl done [video’d] , as we don’t have any ‘master shaping series’ d.v.d.'s here in Perth [ not that I’m aware of anyway !]

anyhow…good idea ? worth considering for the next one ? [or not?]

…please let me know what you all think

 cheers !

oh hey chipper, yeah we’ve had 4 of these, more shaping than glassing usually. There were digital photos taken of some but no video that I know of. Next time we do one I’ll try to dig out the video camera, and get resin all over it, eh?

…see ‘water housing’ thread …

Yes, I killed a video camera getting just ‘small bits’ of resin over it.

Next one I got, I mounted on a tripod [away from the resin] , used a self timer, and zoomed in as needed.

Thanks, Keith …it would be GREAT for us non-californians to get to see some FOOTAGE of what you guys get up to at these shape and glass and whatever else days [surf footage would be good too!] . Thanks to the guys who took photos, by the way !!
