Classic photo Ben. Wonder why they stopped there on the list.
Let's all surf the Hell out of it!!!
love joy peace patience kindness faithfulness humility self control = spiritual fruit .
I have no problem with these , being lived out in people's lives
" have to " "must" "should" "got to" = religious nuts .
...those I DO have a problem with , because they create problems with legalistic approach . They accuse , abuse , and 'ass u me' [yep ....it SURE makes an "ass" of "u" and , [assumes the worst] of "me" !] , and put people under guilt trips ...the opposite of grace and mercy [ which involve a much friendlier option .... giving people the benefit of the doubt]
I've said it before ... still .....I'll say it again ....
'organised religion ...more than enough hatred to go around , but not enough LOVE "
thank God that He [ yes, the much-maligned / blasphemed Jesus] is the opposite of / nothing like most religious nuts !
and yes , EASTER ....
HAPPY easter , INDEED !
...Here , there were great [small, but clean !] waves on good friday , easter sunday , and today [monday]
[see some photos of it , in my 'blog' link below , if you like ? ]
.... cheers from the 'green room' , 'the church of the open sky' !
ben [jewish for 'son' ] chipper [english for happy !]
... yep , I just wanted to share on this thread , before it ends up locked / sent to "errors and bugs "
...treating people as we would want to be treated ...how ?? [see my opening sentence ] ...that is not an 'error' or a 'bug'[bear] , to my way of thinking ....respect !
Yeah, Swaylocks.
Threads like this one. Thanks all.
so pre dawn the church guys next door
were puttin together the post
sunrise service feed set up
I got up after two and a half hours sleep
I had stayed up working on a new hat
for easter sunday sunrise paddle
up the wailua river. The two guys I phoned
I usually padle with were asleep
and dint call me back before I left.
I unloaded my board tied a bottle o’ water
on the deck and took off.
Paddling by your self looking skyward
before dawn into the setting fullish moon
is an introspective opportunity.I started the
reverie thinking about ceremony and what
was appropriate the lords prayer came to mind
then I started thinking about friends and family and the
promise to take swaylock brothers with me
on the dawn paddle then watched for fishes
in the shallows and thought about the relationship
between christianity’s coop of pagan holidays
and the yearly cycle like the Easter being like a new year’s day
spawning fish coming in from the sea after the big flood
blew out the sand bar at the beach, new buds going off
on all the plants riverside new birds in the nests feral pigs
on the banks… then from way behind I heard an awoooo
and looked back to see who it might be,I was Andy Stich
he did wake up ,and got the board off my truck I left him and was catchin’ up.
I slowly turned around back wards and paddled backwards,
facing the tail to watch as andy catching up.
then we started the conversation that lasted
for the next couple hours that covered topic after topic
ranging from family episodes to philosophy to easter
and bhudism and hindi and islam and water heights on the river
and skin boats and birch bark canoe construction and singing training
and song lyrics and old songs and louisiana red ,the singer,
and on the way back we began to think there should be a song for paddling the river.
We tried out a few and young at heart (jimmy durante or frank sinatra)
and row row row ,waiminalo blues, hele on to kaua’iyou boat
and rivers of babylon and
rested on that psalm at the end of that song lyric;
"May the words of my mouth
and the meditations of my heart
be acceptable in thine sight
over I."
Over all a good sunday
An’ I took all you guys with me
wether yo wanted to go or not
irrespective of race religion or creed
yaall are of the same breed as me,
as far as I am concerned
we all stand as blessed in life
and existence on such a fine
planet and material slice
of conciousness.
…ambrose…
hope you could survive the run-on
sentence marathon
without as well as
within.
The way I thought
while I was there
had no punctuation.

Amazing Resurrection Sunday. I believe Jesus was the Paschal lamb perfect and slain for our sins, and if you look closely into the passover ritual you it makes sense that the middle matzo, broken and hidden is a representation of Jesus. Where it gets weird is Easter, comes from Istar, who was a fertility goddess, thus the emphasis on eggs and bunnies, In the Northern Hemisphere it coincides with the vernal greening of Spring. Strange stuff, but a Messiah who died for our sin, so we can attain eternal life through his sacrifice and through the shedding of his blood is something I am thankful for. Anyways Jesus is Lord. Thing is I looked into it for myself, and that's the challenge I submit to you.

Very thoughtful and enlightening GR!
Why should I? I’m an atheist.
Ken,
I’m sure you mean well but, some people feel extremely imposed on by others bringing religion in where it doesn’t belong. I know I have had some happenings in my life in the last 18 months that convince me that ALL religion is a sham…and , recently, I’ve been “Tebowed” to death…
Keep it in church…
Sorry, you brought it up - I just had to respond.
“When religion ruled the world - they called it the dark ages.”
Surfline–and all the predictions said it was---- going to be two foot so I took the kids to the beach to look for rocks at low tide this morning and walked over the dune to this.
Not a bad day!!
Zombie Jesus day!
My point was more towards the old reference that,“You shouldn’t talk politics, religion or money with friends…”
And lately, there’s been political, and now, religious stuff popping up here on Swaylocks…
For almost 10 years now, I check in here pretty much everyday - have the “General Discussion” page tops on my favorites list - to be educated, enlightened, amused, saddened, supported and even bored to tears at times but, it’s always about surfboards or surfing…And, I consider this place a place of friends - of family - and - We should keep it about surfing and surfboards and the life of being a surfer and keep the divisive stuff that has nothing to do with all that out of the conversation…
Happy Easter to you too Ken!
I agree with Ken. For all the skeptics, read (or listen to the audiobook) “What’s So Great About Christianity” by Dinesh D’souza, I promise you’ll be hooked in the first 20 pages. Happy Easter
