Right, thanks, I’ve seen that on your site before. Looks great, still interested in how it rides.
hi solosurfer,
can you describe the rails…50/50, foiled thin in the nose / tail, etc.?
thanks
Yup, put tailbocks on 2 of them yesterday. While in Hawaii I watched a DVD “Surfing”, about 50 times, it had Joel on his board, identical to the Nu’uhiwa, without the label.
On one particular wave, he hangs ten, then lifts one foot high in the air, holding it with his hand and the recovers to finish the wave
The board is beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice. The rails are round. I doubt this board will be very fast down the line, but it would noseride unreal. Perfect tail kick for noseriding. Shros shaped this one. I have had a couple of folks interested in this board, but I am considering taking it out myself. Now you see how I ended up with that small single fin quiver on the other thread. This board has a box instead of glass on.
I believe they are Bing knock-offs, all the way down to the t-bands, fins, and even the labels, for those that remember the orginals. If you want an original DN NR oder one from the orginator Bing. You can order the real deal from Bing. Nice board non-the less.
Thanks for all the responses so far.
Jim, I emailed you with an off the board question, if that’s OK.
Thanks again.
PS
I own and ride a bunch of 60’s boards…Weber Performer, Hansen Master, Con CC Rider, etc, but never rode a Bing Nuuhiwa, although my friend had one and a lightweight.
My understanding on the Tudor model is that it nearly true to the original, but somewhat refined.
Thanks!

All the new Bings are refined under the eye and tutelage of the original Bing Copeland. It would be nice of Joel to atleast acknowledge the master, or maybe a royalty? No, that would be out of the question. I guess as they say, “it’s a form of flattery”.
the sticker outline alone would send the Mc Donalds - Krock law team into action wow the kid’s cajones are as big as Millius’s or did he ask Bing’s permission at the ASR show…whadda thought process…I think I should make a Joro Paddlelak evcept I never saw one or saw a stickr to copy…I love the guys that see one of my boards an say “I HAD A BOARD JUST LIKE THIS” and I know the contours that I coppied from my own board made from assembled pieces of foam and shrank could never be duplicated and yet the remote simularities mak’em …remarkable reproductions…,variations on a theme art school studies used to include repainting rembrants and titians and others power… to the ? people ? maketing moguls?creative genius? Tall girls with a nice shed behind their house that surf…yea love can be determined by an availiable shed for mking boards…ambrose…or a wife that lets you make a few in the yard … just dont sue some one for using your copied outline thats just twisted unless you kick back percentages to the originator…and maybe Nuu too u
Classless. I don’t care if he had permission. Buy one from the Bing label at least or find an original. -Carl
balls o’ plenty. no permission. arrogant. blatant knock off, period. lovely.
Well lets toss dirt all around then, we have Takayama, doing the exact same board, Eaton, Tudor, Steve Clark (with a computer logo the same as the Bing’s), Roland and probaly a dozen others. You’ve got to keep those copyrights current.
Look at Tommy Sena in New Yawk, he has “pirated” old unregistered and even current board labels, bitch at him (he’s getting them done in China, where our copyright laws are toilet paper) your board could be next

Oh…OK then, I guess if other unscrupulous few jerk-offs in the industry are doing it. It’s Ok for me to do. If that’s the premise you are doing these boards then, I have lost all respect for you.
Granted, I understand you have to make money, but at the expense of arrogant in your face copying? I understand that at times as a custom board shaper you have requests to DUPLICATE/REPLICATE a one off. But when you start to blatantly rip off the entire shape down to the logo, then pump them out as “model” boards you have my friend crossed the line.
There is no justification and or any difference between a Chinese/Taiwan made boards that is copied or if you were to copy.
Just because the board has Joel Tudor name on it, does it justify?
Am I off base here?
where does nuuhiwa fit in
Originally designed by Wayne Land.Unsung hero…master shaper…bar fighter…rode down the Windansea drainpipe in Greg Noll’s “Search for Surf” film.Rest in peace Wayne.
…Grunted I under stand you have to make a monkey… is the source of V.D. historicly…the plageristic bent errodes credibility in the eyes of only those who choose to know those living in da nile or perhaps the flood plane of da nile will likely be open to all sorts of copies like that tooth paste in china packaged under the Glean label or the breakfast cereal named chairioos from Ghana or morrocco…I personally am tempted to quick make an upgraded design and market the Joe Fordor model, I bought the rights from gary fodor’s ex wife for nine bucks and a bag of carrots in 1978 … I’ll just put a silouette of Huey Macintosh at the crystal peir in the velzy oval and sell a thousand boards on the black sea in 2005…besides what would Black Pete the pirate do in a situation like this? Go for it…Scrooge mac Duck was geneticlly provided for Black Pete to feed on…the world is a Donald Duck comic book…ambrose…Whats happening in the back pages this month,Gyro Gearloose makes such cool stuff. Now if he were to contribute to swaylocks… hey waitaminnut thats me…Im GYRO GEARLOOSE and dont any of you other guys try an claimit I called it first na na na adults? joep is just a kid an kids get away with whatever they can…I’m gonna paint a couple a campbell soup cans on a big canvas and sign em Warhoule
Sad to see the gross disrespect… very unfortunate for everyone concerned. Too bad that JT, blessed with so much grace and skill as a surfer, isn`t able to show some originality and integrity.
Here`s the real deal:
no disrespect meant to anyone posting here, but does anyone have any actual facts or connection to this besides jim phillips?
where does nuuhiwa fit in? after all, regardless of what company made the board, or who first designed it, the fact is that nuuhiwa was a “star” of the 60’s (and beyond), and that “name” is what helped make the model popular. did he have input into the original? was it given to him 100% finished and refined by bing?
on that classic bing site (which I knew about) no mention is made of nuuhiwa. the board is simply noted as the classic bing noserider, what happened to nuuhiwa?
and what about wayne land?
I read an interview with tudor that certainly seemed to indicate that nuuhiwa was involved to some extent with the production of this new tudor board.
when everyone is done hanging tudor, they may want to move on to nuuhiwa, after all, he’s got a noserider model out on surf tech…get out the hammer and nails and head down to the pier again.
