fins, upon second thought, maybe it WAS good that she wans’t there. I always think I look stupid in surf photos anyway… have this weird face on. Plus, I was going right, so it would’ve been a nice picture of my back.
And it’s a great feeling. Sitting out there, I knew every inch of the board, and when it picked me up on the first wave, I was like ‘holy crap… I made this thing… And now I’m actually surfing it!’
I’ve always been a DIYer, and I feel like this is the ultiamte thing. Its a great feeling, and I can guarantee I’ll be making my own boards from now until forever.
I’ll be sure to make lots of photo threads in the future!
fins, it’s funny you should actually say that about the fins… cause I’ve been foiling them for quite a while in preparation of board building. Too bad I didn’t get any longboard or midlendgth blanks to glass them onto…
I did this one a while ago with the Greenlight fin tabs, and I was gonna do a photo thread of it (still have the photos somewhere…), but the wood i used was a hair too big, so it was a pain in the ass sanding down/hammering it into the fin box. Don’t know if it will ever come out… But that fin is such an upgrade from the previous molded plastic one. -_______- Fiberglass ones are too expensive, and this fin cost like… 15 dollars in the end. It has amazing hold, even on the crappy Challenger I have it on (no, not Eastern Challenger. China Challenger. Sweet ass logo though, no joke…) I don’t know why I call it crappy, cause I’ve had some of the best waves of my life on that board. Got 5 over too. Not 10… =/
So yeah, I have like… 5 more fins foiled ready to glass and get on a board!
I like the way you're 'hanging ten' , on that plank too ...a good crossover shot !
[ you 'could' maybe hold the board a bit higher , though ? just to , as the hot tuna ads in ? the 1990s ? said, "cover ya mullet" ?! ...but , I'm sure our good ol' mate "Rubberlove" would say different , were [s?]he still around here , perhaps ... ha! ]
by the way , mate ... you ARE allowed to smile , you know !
we are not TOO serious here [well, actually .... SOME are , maybe ? ... not me , though !]
So, I went on my 100 mile bike ride this past weekend, and ended it with a camping trip at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk. Was pumped to surf the next day, regardless of the waves. That night, we had 40 mph winds, breaking one of the poles on our 12 person tent and dislodging another one on a board destroying rampage.
I wrapped my board in my beach blanket to protect it for the car ride, and that night, for a fire on the beach, i took it out and laid my board on top of my friends day bag. Didn’t think much of it.
So, during the night, crazy winds.
Wake up in the morning and find 12 FREAKING DEEP HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF MY BOARD, AND CLOSE TO 60 CIRCLE DINGS FROM THE ONE CRAZY POLE WHIPPING AROUND EVERYWHERE! I felt so disheartened…
So now, I am going to fill in the holes with glass and resin (obviously) and then probably re-hot coat the entire bottom.
Is that the best bet, to fill in all the cracks?
Luckily, the fins and deck were fine. Small victories!
