I am over ghetto art on surfboards

With such good examples as those of Moonlight Glass, Atomized, and so many others, what is the attraction?  Who thinks ghetto art appealing? I think it is lazy.

Vanilla plain white no frills free lapped and basic would be better.

Just getting it off my chest.

All the best

Plain white?  No... we should take the lead from bike riders and add lots of colorful patterns and corporate logos to our boards, and to our wetsuits.  Even though we aren't getting paid by the sponsors it is still cool to add a few 7-Eleven logos along with Jamba Juice, and others.  The more logos the better.  People will think you are cool, and it helps the lifeguards to see you better in case you get into trouble.

Does DarthVader no longer post here?  He’s done some epic ghetto-styled resin work which def makes a crude, raw expression into something amazing.

How did you know who my sponsor is?

Huck ,,, what are you doing on sways?

get back to work,,, customer's waiting!!!! LOL!

It would be nice to see some exsamples of what you call ghetto art. To be honest I have not seen to many boards come out of Moonlight with ghetto Art.

My Bad posted in the wrong thread

It’s all fashion that’s targeted towards a given buyer demographic. Whatever graphics goes on a board (if any), depends on who the end user is, and whatever their current taste for graphics is. Yeah, a lot of the stuff you see on shortboards appear to lack finesse in the execution. But that lack of finesse is a major part of the intent of the visual. Kind’a like the immediacy of Punk music.

I quite like any form of personal expression on boards. What I can’t stand is the cookie-cutter endless parade of plain white 6’2 thrusters I see round here. They all have the pretend sponsor’s logo on the nose and a traction pad on the tail. I saw a guy who was selling off his boards on his front lawn, and it was literally a smorgasbord of identical boring sticks, all with a big 3 nose decal…I nearly broke my jaw yawning! Anyone who picks out something with colour, or even better, takes a sharpie or a spray-can to their board themselves is alright by me!

I did not  make myself clear enough.  Moonlight and Darth are very creative.  The best.  Their work on the famous resin tint thread was a real joy to see.  I don’t think they do ghetto art.

I"m not going to name board names for ghetto art, but you know who they are.  I guess that is what sells, but it sure seems lazy to me.

I like it. whats wrong with expressing your self.

you mean the boards that look like somone threw up on the them? ive seen a few of those and it makes me sad because cause i like the board but the color makes me queesy.

those are the ones.  Like Lost and similar.  It just seems lazy to me.  There are so many ideas for color out there.  It is more than some tape and a spray can.

ghetto ?

each to their own, I like colours and being creative with them, I think a surfboard should be a representation of its owner or at least a splash of colour of their choice to personalise it....

What is Ghetto Art ?

I'm not hip , I don't read the Mags.

anything done with a spray paint can where its not supposed to be LOL.

"I like it because you don't" (the concept behind said Ghetto Art).  If it didn't offend, it wouldn't be popular!
