Hey Resinhead, Come on by, I stock both flavors....pretzels too.
Please leave the big thing behind....as it were.
Mine's too leetle. Don't want to make it envious. Got enough trouble as it is.

So... how many gallons of resin did it take??? Should have been a 20 min. job!!! I suspect you were pretty busy...

Just got done putting the gloss coat on yesterday. All total with lam's, hotcoat's, fin boxes, Future handle, leash plugs, gloss coat.....1.5 gallons of CE fast Resin Research, exactly half of the 3 gallon kit.
Great tip on laminating the port side, then doing the starboard side, also flipping up the flaps saved a ton of epoxy.
It actually went really smooth. It was easier than a regular surfboard because it has bigger curves...if that makes sense? It's been warm, so the epoxy flows real good, and wet out is fast. I got it out of the jar and onto the board fast so I didn't have any therm issues. By the time I got done with the wet out and laming the top, the rails were starting to think about getting sticky, so the went down real well.
Thanks for cutting it so quick!
I’ll make you some cement shoes!! “GRRRRR”
from Nih Zelund
This board will be sooooo stable, no additional ballast will be necessary!

Don't make me come over there with my big American surfboard!!! I'll kill all of your King Fish over 80 lbs,. and eat them in fish tacos.
If you are nice to me I'll give you a bite?!
Ken I took it out yeaterday in a semi snotty wind chop day...probably blowing 15-20.
Very stable, comfortable. I was trying to find the balance point before I start drilling all the holes, and putting down pads etc.
One issue is the ability to turn back up wind from a quartering sea / wind. Lots of surface area to get around. I mean you can do it, it just needs to be planned out a bit more.
I will solve this problem by not going out when it's blowing 20 mph and making a mess out of the ocean.
resinhead...
Perhaps the rudder option may not be a bad thing...
k
Does anybody know if there is a commercial made rudder system available?
fish tacos!?? its true! Americans have no taste.
the only place we have fish that size is in the fish farms. strategically placed to have great scenery, dont look to close though or you will see all the rubbish.
can you turn from the front? or do you have foot straps?
please avoid bringing your sense of humour or large board, we have neither the capacity nor willingness to deal with anything new or different
Thanks Toaster

There are some rudder "kits" available. Each board is a bit different, so there is always some field adjustments necessary... there are a number of fin systems as well as tiller options...

Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply. Are these available through you guys? If so, I'm real interested in a kit. And once again, thank you for all your help and openess with folks. Very decent of you.

... I don't carry these, not too much call for them here. They use them mostly on the unlimited boards. You should be able to Google them and find them I know they use them in Hawaii...I think that is where the kit came from that I installed... Sorry I'm not much help on this one...
k
Thanks again Ken. Would rather purchase one than design and make my own. Worried about the through deck part and keeping it sealed.
ps. You've always been helpful even with this. Like I said...Decent.
Found this while researching tillers. I remember him from Carp. but didn't know the extent of his accomplishments. Tarzan redux.

I did not take Ken's advise.......I did the whole job solo,,,,,I poured out a whole boat load of resin and went crazy!!!!!
I pulled it off! Twelve six and five inches thick.....Massive overlapps....free laps.......
I had to prove that I could do it....I did it!.....Not so pretty like the 16 footer........
38" cloth...free laps....XL big laps......6 top , 6 bottom......Lam and Hot coat...1.5 gallons.......
Then I have the plugs and fin box...plus the deck patch......and second hot coat.....I'm still within the 2 gallon range....Budget was for 3 gal.......
Happy, Happy, Happy...................
Old guys compensating ....
Next thing you know the Cialis commercials will replace the bathtubs with you laying on this thing next to a momma seal floating belly up smoking a fatty.
With regard to the rudder, I don't have a kit but I do have a whacko design if you're interested.
On second thought, nevermind. Most everything board related I've touched this week has turned to dreck and I'd hate to have anything to do with ugly-dying that killer beast - good thing it's only Monday.
First off toaster, why do you NZ guys have to post up everything twice? Second, you know everybody here in So Cal is mexcan, and we will wrap anything in a tortilla and call it food.. Check this out, we even wrap up a turkey sandwick in a tortilla....and guess what we call it? We call it a wrap...that's fricking Yankee engine-nuity my friend.
A rudder will be my last resort. I think it will work fine with out one. But if I do I'll just put a PVC tube through it and lay up a fiberglass fin that fits the tube. It would be easy...my dads a TV repairman, he's got a bitch'n set of tools.
