Is this what Swaylock's has become?

The Cerex thread got locked down today.   Sent over to Errors and Bugs.  End of discussion.  Why?

It only took two pages for Huie to start bringing it down.

Then ghettorat jumps in with his personal attacks.

Then it goes on for twenty pages of insults and chest beating from Huie, Ghettorat, and Kayu.  Anything to stop the discussion.  I don’t know whether it was a pure ego stroke on their part - can’t have anybody get credit for anything if it isn’t them.- Or whether they are trying to protect some business advantage over the competition.

Ghettorat repeatedly called for his own banning!

The conversation was joined by many, notably an engineering teacher, Lemat, and a Doctor of Chemistry (I think) Stonburner.  Sharing ideas of building methods, different materials, and different engineering.  I thought it was a really good conversation.  I know by the messages I got both on the thread itself, and privately, that others were into it.  It got over 7000 views.

All the time Huie, Kayu and Ghettorat doing everything they can to shut it down.

Well they got their way.  Discussion is over.  Nobody on Swaylock’s get to learn any more on the subject.  At least on this thread, and by anything I’m working on.

Was I the only one to notice that although the three all claimed expert knowledge in composite surfboard design, not a one of them shared anything, other than they did it first, and only buy from Graphite Masters.  Just throwing a stray thought out there.  If Ghettorat works so closely with Graphite Masters, and trashes any other sources, is that a little duplicitous?

This isn’t the first time that  the three have chased away members.  I’ve been told by at least one top pro who posts here sometimes, that they don’t because of the trash that goes on.  On the Cerex thread Surfding said he was not going to do a considered build thread on his core work, just because of this.

So we have traded Build Threads that we would all have followed closely for the trash from Huie, Kayu and Ghettorat.

So to the moderators.  Is there anyway to handle this better.  I know the mods can delete individual posts.  They can ban posters also.  So which direction should Swaylock’s go?  It seems like this is a real turning point.

If you agree with this, then stand up and show it.  Bump it to the top.  If I’m really wrong in all this, then let the thread die.  At least then i’ll know that everything I work on and posted really wasn’t interesting to you all, and I’ll keep it to myself.  Maybe Swaylock’s should be limited to discussions of Gloss coat brushing, and which sandpaper grit to use, and nothing more than that.

Mark - I was sorry to see the thread locked. Although your research is over my head tech-wise, it seemed interesting, and I enjoyed your approach of systematically testing the different combinations.  I didn't understand where the disagreement was coming from.

Man you just don’t get it you think the world is against you.  Really get over yourself, all you do is call people names.  You don’t no anything about Cerex/skinz, or whatever you want to call it; so do what Hank recommended put it to the test.  I never called for the thread to be shut down, you calling us monkeys shut it down, you feeble minded paranoid bull head.  I offer real help from the world of experience, and you, act like us “monkeys” are conspiring against you- WAKE UP!  I don’t have anything against you other than you coming off like an expert, but no experience.  I know  you like seeing your name in print, for your business, I hope it rocks; and I hope you figure out how to make a better surfboard, because that’s why I am here to help, because I already know how.  What’s so hard to believe about that.  I don’t post pictures to show you how cool I think I am, because I am not that cool, I just plainly don’t care, but I will call BS when I know it.

Make some boards put the time in; make the mistakes and learn.  Try not to mess up the same way the next time.  Earn while you learn; then you’ll see the value of my ways.  Until then, when you can talk empirically, not just theorize you don’t have the kind of respect I value the most- earned. I think there should be a thread on different constructions, but you create a thread and then think your in control.  Ha!  Make stuff, try to make it better, don’t get your feelings so bruised when I tell you I have already been down that road; maybe the next time you go down the road first.  Anyone with half a brain after reading my posts can figure out I know my way around a surfboard, like few do, because I had the best teachers, and have the experience.

I'm sure you'll be using this stuff on your next build, so why don't you do a build thread, and we can follow along.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see how the weight, cost, etc all pans out.  BTW, nice boards you posted!  Never thought I'd see you build a mid-length that is the first step toward the dark side LOL, did you ride it yourself?

Come on, fess up... now did you or didn't you?  Tell me you paddled out and rode a few on that old man's board, I'll feel a lot better about myself LOL.

How about if you don’t have anything constructive to say don’t post should be fairly simple for all involved . Abusive pms to each other sounds kinda like passing notes around in school.

Did any of you read this.

The rules of Swaylock’s Discussion Forums are pretty simple.

The rules are:

  1. No personal attacks.

  2. Stick to the topics of the various forums.

  3. Please NO advertising in The General Discussion.

  4. Please keep things you want to sell, promote, advertise etc, in the classifieds or the Marketplace Forum.

Those are all the rules. Everything below simply plays to forum etiquette.

Some things will make you unpopular:

  1. Spam

  2. Repeatedly bumping your thread to the top of the list.

  3. Repeating yourself.

  4. Rudeness.

  5. SHOUTING.

Some things will make you popular:

  1. Spend some time before you storm in.

  2. Search before you ask.

  3. Search again.

  4. Search again.

  5. Punctuate and spell check.

  6. Help groms and newcomers.

  7. Be nice

Finally, a few good ideas:

  1. Don’t feed the trolls!

  2. Substantiate your claims.

  3. Think before you post.

  4. Use your common sense.

  5. Go surfing.

Enjoy,

Mike

Going back to my wonky mistake laden board makeing which I will surf like a kook  but I will be enjoying every minute of it  and I’m sure I’m not the only one doing so.

“If Ghettorat works so closely with Graphite Masters, and trashes any other sources, is that a little duplicitous?”  I think I have trashed GM more than any other company, and somebody over there is duplicitous enough to know it.  Still I as I have said, just call Justin, and he’ll get’er done.

Deleted…

Timeto have a sense of humor?

“Errors and Bugs” is going tobe the name of my new band!

I hope Dane isn’t as kooky as that quote makes him sound…

I like to help new builders on this site. if the advice I give them helps they are appreciative.  I prefer to not talk $#!t about things of which I know little if anything about. I'm just a "run of the mill" boardbuilder/shaper who knows a fair amount about Poly construction done using traditional "Industry" methods.  I consider it fortunate to acquire knowledge from guys like Huie and G-rat about altenative materials and techniques. Baiting and antagonistic posts to de-rail, disrupt and prevent discussion in the everyday builder threads have become the norm at Sways.

**Tenover **asked why he should not paint over laminating coats. Answer in so many words: Don't your an ignorant in dumbass with no experience if you have to ask. Thread is hijacked and moved to Errors and bugs.

**Everysurfer** posts about some tests he is doing with surfacing veils. Again he is told it is old news, don't waste your/our time, baseless insults are leveled, the thread becomes inundated with off-topic manure posted by a handful of members. End result, the thread gets moved to Error and bugs.

These are just a few of the most recent harangues.

The evolving pattern is disturbing. If somebody wants to post tests, experiments or an unusual approach or idea for other home builders who might be interested; increasingly he/she is harrassed by a handful of members who jump into disrupt the flow of the thread. The detractors usually profess they have no interest in what the OP is doing.  These self-important critics call BS while** offering no substantive input** of their own. It seems the objective is to prevent discussion and have a thread moved to "Errors and Bugs?"

If a garage builder wants to post some ideas or ask questions about some technique that is not the norm for commercial production techniques or the surf industry at large, he/she are frequently hounded and berated into silence.

Things were not like this 3 or 4 years ago.

I saw Yater at lunch yesterday and asked him about his guest docent day at the Surfing Herritage Museum last Saturday. He spoke to the earliy Hobie years and his roll in them. Amazing really. He said only 20 people show’d up.

Wished I wasn’t out of town that day.

Time for bed Gentleman.

See you next year.

PS Surfding is another who has the time, money and enthusiaism to experiment.  What's more he is always willing to share his findings.  Mike, Huie and G-rat are my main men.  When they speak on a topic you would all do well to listen carefully.

EP---  Too bad.  I didn't know about it or I would have made that scene.  I'm in So. Calif until 7/1. I usually stay up on the SHF stuff, but have been a little preoccupied with stuff I've got going in the PNW. Hope Rennie , his family, business etc are doing well.  I suppose Lauren is doing well huh?

Holy crap!!!   ha.ha…

“My main men”

That’s got a squishy, messy, awkward ring to it…

I’m sorry… I can’t stop laughing…

I’m listening  carefully though…, Really… I am…

Wait… I think I hear something…Core, core core,  skins, skin, skins    rails rails rails,   fins fins fins… RR .RR, RR,. net  net  net   4 pounds, maybe 5 max…

Got it!

Was the 'cerex thread ‘distorted’ due to an issue of respect, rather than personalities

we must respect the right to withhold any information, thats as fundemental as free speech

an understanding that stays within expected boundaries will allow us to explore any topic,

and enjoy the occaisonal gem…

I believe if you re-read the Cerex thread you will find ES was merely posting findings from some testing he was doing.

Then a member told ES his tests were old news and, if I am not mistaken, that he was plagiarizing for doing personal denovo testing.  He was taking credit for previously done work (unreported work)?  He was also misquoted and insulted (very common of late).

Further, another member told ES he was a “blabbermouth” for posting the results of his tests.

Whose freedom of speech/press was being attacked from the outset?

Many other absurd distortions were posted as well.

After much baiting, berating and insulting; things escalated.

The recent foam manufacture thread was another classic example of contemporary Swaylocks decorum.

No response is required.
