the** most progressive thread Swaylocks has had in ages.
**because an engineering teacher
who has worked on Formula one race cars a Doctorate in Chemestry **
You would have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for that level of consulting!**
academix dont surf much while they are becoming PHDS.
studying at the feet of the peir shoguns is an undocumented
course of study depreciated by diploma s on walls and mythical
formula cars that win or lose who cares.
Ghett’s chastizing and condemnation
are worth $ send him a consulting check
for biting criticism.More have left swaylocks
than remain because of the deaf and dumb
and blind.Three monkeys in a row
see no

speak no
speak says see that
see no says I heard that
hear no says what?
the idea that negative posters hurt certainly won’t listen to me.
backed up what huie, ghetto, kayu and surfding have told you all along…
stay off the pc for a bit and do some actual building… hows that for a hint?.
Im back because I got a long list:
16 notices on the bat-phone.
Now that everybodys gone we can have a party.
this is what swaylocks is all about
healing the ill of bruises and sending them off
to succeed at building the best surfboards
in the history of the known universe.
Meanwhile back at the blue campfire
cary seidler is giving a wardy the molar test
and calling the board a piece
(mutiple choice:)
A.of crap
B. the best board ever
C.or spitting out foam and fiberglass into the roaring fire…
answer right get a diploma!

I told him to appologise to everybody and not pm me again.unless he sends me a copy of his appology

when they say they are going they just dont go.
2cents ,2 cents, 2 cents,
when will the party start again?
one day I'll be a big pro and then I can post everything in bold.
81 posts on a gripe thread,
what a waste of creative thought.
Backround noise can dampen the
clarity of cosmic symphonies
directing us to the path with heart.
…ambrose…
dont understand that?
read it aloud three times slow.
maybe accompanied
with a ukulele progression
of your choice.
Add some verses
make it the chorus
Dave, for what it’s worth there are a world of difference between you and some of the others you mention when it comes to HOW you tell it. As for the garage hacks like myself, I will probably learn more from swaylocks than from the odd couple of boards I make a year. Of course for those of you who make boards for a living and have done so for a lifetime and spend time and money on R&D, there will be few of and far between the moments where you gain any knowledge from the swaylocks forum. However the knowledge that the professional shapers and builders share, be it design, technique or construction, are much appreciated. But there has to be some substance to it, anyone can say “that doesn’t work” and it tells you very little.
There ARE RULES on this forum. Thankfully the forum have been (mostly) self moderating for a while now, hopefully that does not have to change (much). Speaking from experience, when the moderators do take action we get just as much grief (if not more) as if we do nothing. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…
Hi haavard:
Mark Millers post was a big train wreck.
Moderators were called in.
One thing that makes Swaylocks so realistic is the train wrecks.
Now when Bert Burger did his tread on composite building it went really well and I learned a lot. (Good example of a proper tread)
As far as Ghettorat: He knows his materials and is a professional.
Now to have a instructional tread with photo’s by ghettorat would be highly educational for all.
Professionals as well as GARAGE GUYS would benefit!
This is for you Mark:
In a surf shop environment the psychological warfare is brutal.
You being a General Contractor gives you GOD MODE STATUS.
You have a prosperous life for sure.
In the surfboard construction world it’s a much harsher environment.
Here on swaylocks this same type of warfare resonates on this site.
That’s what makes swaylocks so intense. (Kind of like reality TV)
I’m not a PRO and I’m not a Garage Guy,
I’ve been bless with some cool toys!
I have a different kind of business that seems to work.
In my beginning days in Huntington Beach working in the surf slums I took a lot of mental punishment.
Being called a KOOK, Green Horn, Hacker, White Collar, Educated Idiot and the best one: Your not Blue Collar!
I grew up surfing HB and been around different Countries Surfing Insane Waves.
However has a board builder that stuff does not matter.
Learning how to build functional equipment for various surf breaks around the world is one thing.
Surviving the Metal Abuse that comes from a Surf Factory Environment is another skill set.
Love or Hate this part however it must be learned.
Like surfing your Local Surf Break there is a Pecking Order.
Well it’s the same in a Surf Factory.
We can hide behind keyboards here on swaylocks in a Surf Factory we’re all fair game.
Guys like Huie, Ghettorat, Ambrose, Deadshaper are all very experienced board builders and we can learn a lot from them.
I did not see the need for a Moderator in this case.
It was kind of like a self regulating uprising.
It’s part of the learning process as far as I see it.
Maybe I’m Jaded?
Let’s build some stuff and not take this so serious!
Kind regards,
surfding
Hello S'Ding Howzit? You are being humble by not claiming to be a PRO. I respect your words and opinions on board making. That has come about because I've followed your previous posts and realise you know what you are talking about. That is the short version of the "hazing" in coming to work with a crew. The established guys have to find out if you can hack the challenge. This condition exists in many areas of life. There is a concerted effort to bring you to a breaking point to see what you can handle. It is a critical component of team building where in some cases your life literally is in the hands of the team. They are trying to see through actions and re-actions if it will be a good fit.
Having said that, many times it is taken WAY TO FAR by smaller thinking minds. The ribbing in shops or on a construction site takes place to find the balance of teamwork and individual thought. If a guy goes through it all with good humor and confidence in his abilities (learning ability as well) then it becomes a very efficient TEAM. I know you are aware of all this but some have never experienced this. There are lines that need to be drawn but that is up to the teamleader to establish.
Also, it is unrealistic for someone to expect free sharing of anothers' hard earned and fought R&D findings. It comes at great expense and labor. I'm a carpenter. If I get asked how do I do" X", I'm not going to give away methods for time, cost, or energy savings right off the bat until I know it will be respected and EARNED through due diligence. It is a fact of life that we all need to put the time and effort in. Of course, that can be done without vitriol and belittling. I think we are all guilty of having fun at anothers' expense but there IS a happy medium. If we can still come together after the fact and work side by side the team will be stronger for it. I guess the bottom line is: we've all got to put the time in before expectations. Sorry for ranting, and it isn't directed at you. At all.
ps. When did having a contractor's license lead to a privledged life?? I missed that chapter. After 35 years at it, I'm working harder for less than ever before. Hope your business and everyone else here at Sway's is doing well.
Lots of food for thought in this thread. Being a construction worker / gen. contractor too, I have experienced also much of what tblank said. And Mike has a lot of experience and insight into behavior patterns also, and has paid the dues to be where he is. His was a good post as well. I guess sometimes people get confused in thinking occupational pecking-order behavior is an acceptable guideline for a public forum venue. It helps to be aware of that, while posting here. =)
tblank thanks for that!
Very good points!
I say I’m not a PRO because I’m not.
I will be a student of board building until I die.
Board building is my therapy like it is for most on this site.
Garage Hack or Pro Builder it doesn’t matter.
If someone is a master SKIL 100 user does that make him the head Kahuna?
If someone owns a CNC Machine does that make him EVIL?
We come into this world not wearing clothes and guess what?
We leave the same way!
Let’s have some fun while we are still here.
Kind regards,
surfding
Too bad one or two members can ruin a positive discussion for the rest of us.
I agree with you TBlank. I think many of us can relate to what you are describing…
I think that there is another side to that coin too… The person who’s a vet on the job is only as good as his last day worked. His actions should CONSTANTLY earn respect…
Swaylocks is about learning and sharing ideas. If someone comes on here telling me how great he is and how much he knows but doesn’t contribute positively, in my mind, they are worthless. Worse than worthless, they are worthless and taking up space.
