Is this what Swaylock's has become?

i hope everyone can understand and accept kayu and huie’s arguement and reasoning,

healthy disagreement is vital and necessary on this forum, and would be poorer without these professional opinions,

research the archives to make sure your questions are given the thought they deserve,

as ‘the rat’ isnt able to explain why he should be able to throw his blanket arguement over any thread,

then this shouldn’t reoccur in subsequent threads, unless backed by relevant data,

swaylocks, now aware of this, should be responsible for protecting their own ideals…

What percentage of Swaylock’s members are professional or commercial surfboard builders?

What percentage of Swaylock’s members are backyard, garage or home surfboard builders?

Members? I would guess something similar to the surfing population in general.  One professional board maker for every five hundred or so surfers.

Posters? that gets skewed by passion or interest.  I’d guess one full time professional for every 50 or so regulars.

Seems to me it is off balance if four professional builders can crash threads that hundreds wanted to read.

8708 views on the Cerex thread.  So figure everyone who read it went on and viewed it 20 times, that would make 435 individual readers.  Probably more individuals than that, because most probably didnt follow all 24 pages.

In one day, 1500 views on this thread.  I would say that at the least, many are paying attention.

So four posters got together and trashed a thread that over 400 were reading.  That’s my point.  Although they claim superior knowledge, not one of them posted anything positive.  Not one hint to its use.  Not one hint to how to apply it.  Not one hint to what it does to the board.  Nothing but a lot of “I know more than you” and “Blabbermouth” for talking about it.

That one comment by Kayu is all you need to know.  You are a “Blabbermouth” if you talk about anything current in surfboard design.

Moderators, where are you?

hey mom watch this.

…ambrose…

Ambrose, you have me all wrong.  I’m not posting here in vanity.  I don’t make boards professionally.  I don’t sell boards.  I make them for myself and a few friends.  Not a “hey mom watch this”.  I only personally know  two Swaylock’s members.

I post because it is fun to share ideas.  Remember show-and-tell in school?  Sometime it is just fun to share.  Same reason you post your poetry.  You do some things just for fun.  Isn’t that the hawaiian kokua spirit?  You aren’t against sharing, are you?

Sometimes you need to call out a bully.  When four bullies take over the playground of 400, something should be said.

Are you in favor of the four continuing?  I would like to hope not.

And lastly, I have added my tag line after another Sway’s member complained that some members, and one of the bullies, are anonymous.  That is too easy to throw rocks from the dark.  That is the coward’s way.  I added my tag line so anyone can find me.  Man-up as they say.  Same reason you are Ambrose Curry III.  I didn’t even need to look it up, I’ve seen it so many times.

Uh…hate to burst your bubble Mark, but I viewed your thread about 8600 times,  I’m not good at math but  I think only about 4 of us were following it…

But seriously, I really appreciated what you were doing.  I’m actually doing the same thing on my build thread but the pros haven’t descended on me…yet. Maybe because I’m doing things in my sophmoric way, and if they’ve been on Sways a while and have read some of my build threads in the past, they are waiting for one of my colossal F—ups.  Like the Giant Squid where I vacuumed on a veneer but didn’t have enough resin and so, with my six year old daughter saying, “Hurry Daddy!  Hurry!” I mixed a second batch and only half the resin kicked.  That one was fun.  Or the two mysterious “Delam Specials”  which to this day remain a mystery…the only plausible explanation being that AFOAF gave me teflon coated cloth…

But anyways, move on. Post pics and ride reports of your completed board.  I’m thinking of heading up to your neck of the woods when there’s enough swell to light up a few spots around there.  Maybe you could let me know??

Bullies can’t stand them, at least we can agree about that.  Me thinks its all about control, ego, and vanity for you, in some ways your the same as the guy who you thought should have posted up, but didn’t.  What I know didn’t come easy, wasn’t always fun, and had my ego crushed more times than I can remember.  For example: Thirty years ago I showed Donald Takayama a long board (I thought it was the best ever) he thought otherwise, and he was right.  He didn’t use the most flattering words either; that’s just one example.  As Stony point out correctly, my punctuation isn’t perfect, but I try, and try, and try.  I hope your getting some good waves this winter.

Oh Ambrose, when you see BASA, tell him I wish him the best; its been thirty years since we have had our falling out, and tell him I miss Russ, and, as much as, dick they both could be, I learned so much from them.

If you don’t like bullies, then don’t tell people they suck.  Don’t tell people they are ignorant.  Don’t insult.  Don’t shout your superiority.  Let everyone have their say, and don’t try to silence them.  You disagree with them, then say what you disagree with.  You discuss the idea, not the person.

Reposted for clarity

On a forum designed for sharing, no one should be attacked for doing just that.  I don't care if you invented the wheel, expanded polystyrene foam, or the digital calculator, everyone here should be interested in sharing the stoke for surfboard building...otherwise, you are on the wrong forum.

I have no problem with industry people who have secrets to protect, and respect their right to avoid posting or participating here, or to limit what they share.

But it is completely contrary to the spirit of this forum to attempt to silence, humiliate, or drag into a mudslinging contest, someone simply for sharing information they are learning along the way of their journey.

swaylocks is becoming 50 posts

on a gripe thread about  a method check

 by old farts telling it.

Old farts cut to the chase often to save greif.

…My teacher often yelled profanities

when pouring concrete and if the well wishing

free help couldnt take the heat

he was told to leave.

My father was a chief machinists mate

he could yell and swear my sister got upset

I just listened and didnt ride my bike

accross traffic anymore.

If I were walking off a cliff

I would be thankfull to an old fart

calling me out and saving me greif.

If you talk up the exceptions to an O.F.

and try and dilute the message you

sometimes get more swears till you just

stop and listen to the meaning

and not the words.

some people teach really well.

some people do stuff really good.

they are not always the same guys.

some people lead by example.

Some people lead with

an array of dazzling pitches.

“some people say a man is made outa mud.”

some people say Merle Travis wrote it.

Tennessee Ernie sang that.

there are people that will argue that

George S Davis wrote the song.

how long do they argue and gripe?

some still are.

some are glassin’ right now

with some exotic fiber cloth and vegetable sap.

what’s there to eat?

people stop arguing and

talking all together when they eat.

Only if their mother’s yelled at em

“DONT TALK when YOU GOT A MOUTHFULL OF FOOD”

thanks mom,I 'd be more likly to choke …

and be beholdin’ to some guy named Heinlick

who made a manuvre.

silence is a virtue also considered golden.

humility is an advantage for successful achademics.

contradicting professors is a dicey attitude.

if arguing and gripeing work for you ,

well keep it up maybe this thread will get 8000

reads and 52 posts.

I think this is the 51st .

or does somebody need to post their two cents

on a gripe.Yep this is what swaylocks has become.

…ambrose…

ES, you've had your whinge for a few days now. Add a teaspoon of concrete to your breakfast, then get on with testing your ideas. Then report back. I think some people were trying to help you, without giving you a step by step procedure, that's all. I think that's fair?

Yes… now get over it.

Yeah, seems like a "get over it and move on" kinda thing...  But 6 pages and running, still in the top ten, drawing a nearly page-long post from Ambrose, and even accomplishing the rare feat of getting one of the mod's to weigh in, it seems the topic moves beyond a single poster's frustration, and touches on larger topics that are timely and apropos to this forum.

No harm in saying, is this where we want to be, or is this where we want to go?  Shoot, even the posts that say drop it and move on bump it back up to the top, and are, in effect, keeping it alive.

Seems to be cathartic to get some of these sentiments out in the open, as it were.  Maybe a little sunlight and air can sometimes be the best medicine?

Holy fuck, call a waaaahmbulance, enough with the whining and dick swinging.

yes, burst out of song for a moment, and tell us what u really think…

help your friend

Beerfan and Shark Country,

I’m waiting for an arctic foam stringerless yellow blank to come.  When It does, I’ll be back.  And Beerfan, although my ego has been slammed a whole lot lately, that isn’t what this is all about.  I’m a construction worker.  I can give as well as get.

It isn’t the B.S. that I got on the Cerex thread that has me pissed.  What has me pissed off is that the moderators locked up what could have been the most progressive thread Swaylocks has had in ages.  And not because of the simple stuff I was coming up with. But because we had an engineering teacher who has worked on Formula one race cars (Lemat) and a Doctorate in Chemestry (Stoneburner) helping out.  We had Feral Dave dropping hints.  We had Kiterider helping out too.  Do you remember the post about applying the cerex dry to the wet laminate, and letting the Cerex absorb the epoxy under vacuum bagging, creating a better surface layer?  That was figured out during a p.m. exchange with Kiterider.  We were sharing everything!

How valuable is that!  You can’t buy that sort of contribution!  Expert’s input!  You would have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for that level of consulting!  Way beyond anything limited to surfboards.   And it got locked down!  What a waste!  Before it got shut down, I asked the moderators if they could just delete the crap and save the thread.

If you go to my first post on this thread, i said this is to get the moderators attention as much as anything.  I said it is because other pros have told me they won’t post because the crap that is handed out.  Remember Surfding and Huie were doing a thread on identical boards EPS and PU.  Going to get professional surfers to report back to us on the difference.  You think you or I can get that sort of access to professional surfers?  Priceless!  And the arguments got that thread locked down too!

I’m trying to get out the idea that negative posters hurt us.  Since the negative guys certainly won’t listen to me, I’m hoping that if everybody says, “knock it off” then maybe they will be shamed into stopping, or the moderators will delete just the worthless posts.

I’m not asking for anyone to go away, or be banned.  I’m asking for the few troublemakers to realize they are hurting us all, and to stop it.  I’m asking for the moderators to use a knife, and not a hatchet.

So unless anyone has anything else to say to me, I’m done here.  I hope everyone will get my point.  I’ll see you all when my blank comes in.  I’m off to follow llilibel03’s summer build thread.  Wish I was there!

I Just backed up what huie, ghetto, kayu and surfding have told you all along…

stay off the pc for a bit and do some actual building… hows that for a hint?
