so after having this board for around 2 years now im finally starting to get working on this thing
so this board had 2 hot coats over it when it came to me, the fins were all messed up, 2 nice an big delam spots on the deck from were i suspect the original owner placed his knees on the board and some more delam near the tail, and the nose and tail were beaten in and all sorts of rail cracks and dings
first thing i did was remove the fins then i spent about 3 hours sanding it with some 40 grit
it started out at about 20 pounds now its under 10 pounds so there was alot of unnecessary resin on this board
I have a 5’6" that has some sweet kneeboarder issues… I need to show it love eventually as well. I love those fins, I am pretty sure you posted a picture of them on a earlier thread… and Iloved them then as well.
so after my one day off a week and catching a nice lingcod in the morning and a lobster at night im ready to get worken on this thing again
now im going to cut open the delam spots near the tail, pour some resin down and then wheigh it down with some diving weights[img_assist|nid=1063281|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=364|height=246]
[img_assist|nid=1063282|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=367|height=248]
oh and beerfan it will be a 5’4 when im done filling everything in and no you cant have it but if you ever make it to san diego you can have a test drive on it
now that i got all the spots filled in with the green filler now ill do all the salmon colored filler[img_assist|nid=1063287|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=347|height=234]
[img_assist|nid=1063288|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=353|height=521]
[img_assist|nid=1063289|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=360|height=243]
so now that i got everything filled in now i want to start patching everything up
the fist part that i want to do is wrap the rails with some cloth but because i grinded down all the rail shatters the rails are not smooth at all so im going to add a lot of little pieces of cloth in all the little divots in the rails to make every thing smooth before i wrap the rails
[img_assist|nid=1063317|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=335|height=495]
[img_assist|nid=1063318|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=338|height=499]
[img_assist|nid=1063319|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=385|height=260]
right before the new year i went out snowboarding and ended up breaking my right elbow
so that has hindered my working abilities for a little while now but i can finally use both of my arms now and i hired my first employe doing all the finish sanding which has helps me out alot
oh and i absolutely hate sanding with a palm sander, for the first couple of weeks thats all i could use
but anyways back to the board
so i got everything all fixed up and now its time to hide every thing with a pigmented lamination
first i tape off the deck then lam the bottom
[img_assist|nid=1064240|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=323|height=477]
[img_assist|nid=1064241|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=368|height=248]
[img_assist|nid=1064242|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=376|height=254]
so i wanted the least amount of cloth with the most wive so i can hide everything so i went with using 2 layers of 2 oz cloth
i can now put my mask on using both of my hands, kind of a pain putting it on with only one hand
and now back to the board
so now im going to be fixing up the fins
they had close to and 1/8 of an inch of glass on both sides of the fin so after alot of grinding and redoing the resin bead i can now attach them back to the board[img_assist|nid=1064306|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=489|height=330]
[img_assist|nid=1064307|title=lis fish resto|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=492|height=332]
so now that i got them glued on the board ill give it some time before i glass them on
and for those of you wondering the back of the fins starts at the butt crack of the swallow tail
its 6 1/4 inches from the stringer and there is no cant or toe
