locked out of swaylocks!

Is there any update on this situation?  Anyone near Thrailkill that could take a look at his computer for him, and delete the cookies and try again?  Haven't heard from him or Herb Spitzer for awhile, I know they were both having problems logging on.

Just got an email from another member who is unable to log on.

I'm still not able to post or reply in the forum. PM is my only ''link'' to the membership. I'm making a new 7' 10'' personal board, as well as a 6' 6'' client board. Both will be PU foam, with vac bag/ infusion epoxy glassing. Both boards will sport my ''NewFoilFins''. I'd be delighted if someone could help me reconnect.

PM me (Huck) or Bill Thrailkill if you are in a position to help out.  IIRC Bill is in the San Diego area.

It would be really nice to get this matter resolved.

OK, let’s start pooling the resources here. These users are too valuable to the community. Is anyone able to share some specifics on the swaylocks platform? Server type, forum software, etc… This forum layout is unlike any other I’ve encountered, for example php based forums like vBulletin, etc… Perhaps some system specifics that can be shared will help us to search out some possible solutions or at least rule out others. Does Bill Thrailkill have another device to try, phone, whatever that will allow him to prove for sure whether it is device specific?

That's my thinking on the matter also.  Unfortunately, I'm a bit too far away at present to be of much help, and I'm not a computer geek either.   But I know there must be some out there...

The site is Drupal 5.

Hosted on a dedicated LAMP stack.

Please note, I was able to login as Bill and post just fine from my Mac.

Thank you. This is valuable information. I know I will, but hopefully some others can start to problem solve on behalf of Bill.

One question though Mike. I assume your Mac has accessed the site previously as in you logged out and then back in as Bill Thrailkill, am I assuming correctly?

Do we know if BT himself has tried to log in via a separate device and if so, was that also blocked? Perhaps he can share his password with a trusted source that can log in from a machine of a similar configuration to begin narrowing down the culprit.

Yes. I logged out and logged in as him from my mac. It could be something between our server and his client (ie firewall), however I’m inclined to believe it’s on client. Would be interesting if he could try a different computer on his own network.

Would be nice to know his IP address…

Does anyone know if BT able to edit one of his existing posts or is this also disabled? I just read back over the thread to make sure I was troubleshooting from accurate information. Obviously he’s not blocked at login, just at posting time.

I see some mentions of a Drupal module called CKEditor and it blocking some users from posting.

Bill, can you try posting using the simple editor?

Doyle,

We use TinyMCE, not ckeditor

All this piddling around.

  1. Bill needs to sign up for a free www.logmein.com account.

This allows a remote user easy access for free into Bills machine.

Bill sets up the account with his email and password, gives password and email to someone who can fix it.

 2) Someone trusted from this forum fixes the Browser/Computer problem with Bill sitting alongside his computer watching and perhaps talking via phone to the ‘Forum Fixer’.

 3) Bill changes his logmein.com password, to disable the helper from logging back into his machine.

I could fix this problem in less than  20 minutes to 1 hour tops if I’m particularly flummoxed.

Good Luck

Otis, it would be awesome if you could contact Bill by PM and work out the arrangements.  I don't think anyone is more tired of the piddling around than he is!

He has already let me know that if someone could fix this for him, he would be happy to share some of his surfboard / surfing / design / "talk story" moxie, and might even be willing to share a carefully guarded template or two from his bountiful archives.

if I could have an expert fiddler?, I have it figured out, say a bloke picks up his board, we just assume he couldn’t be so stupid not to be able to put his legrope plug in, well HELLOOOOO computer zoooomz, 99.9 of you would fuck your board, so please go easy on us, morons we are.

H.

Otis,

Sounds like you just volunteered. Bill, please PM otis.

Mike

Wouldn’t it be easy enough for Bill to register a new Swaylocks user account on his computer and see if he can log in with it.

If he can, then there’s something screwy with his original account.

If he can’t, then there’s something messed up with his computer, or how it connects to Sways.

And if the new accounts works, just keep using it.

Lots of different ways to test whats going on one use someones elses computer and see if you can log in. Go to The Library and use one of the computers to see if you can log in, or do like Atomizer said.

Still have yet to see Thrailkill or Spitzer's name show up on a current post....

Just saw Bill Thrailkill's name show up on a fresh post today, welcome back Bill!

weird glitch!

FYI: I did get in touch with Bill, seems he is unable to ‘add his computer’ to the Logmein.com free service even with my help over the phone.

Right now I am waiting on Bill to have his wife(who is somewhat computer adroit) help him and hear back from him …  … … …

Not exactly sure what the holdup is on his end.

But my services were offered…
