Hi everyone, after reading a lot of mini threads here I made a 5-5 3 inches thick. I love it and all my other boards are collecting dust. The speed and the trim are like no other board I have..well my bonzer comes close but the mini wins. I had it out this last swell we had here in Floridia in some O-H surf and was loving it.
my only complaint is the cut backs were too slow.
I bellied the nose a third and then flat and then the last third has a quarter inch concave out the back. I have futures T 1 twins in now 2.5 inches of the tail.I tried the rasta keels on it , lots of drive but slower in the turn. ?
If I hull the bottom farther back will it help in turning? ?
If I foil the tail thinner will it help? ?
If i put in another 2 boxes and ride it as a Quad will it be looser?
I can only make one more board this year and I would like to get it right.
Just my thoughts… Lose the concave. No need on a wide tailed board. I’d favor a roll instead of a vee for smoothness as well. Other thoughts which may be detrimental to the design. Pull the tail in just a little bit and make it a quad…you might lose a bit of down the line speed and add a lot of manuverability.
Thanks insanecutback , so no concave,Would that make it a ture hull? how far up shuld I start pulling the tail ? Ya I like Quads, I have 4 now and love the way they turn. Thanks for the input.
Wow that looks hot, nice board, I just made one ( not as nice as that one) with a wider tail( no pis at the moment) Wil be a twinzer, just waiting on some custum fins from haycon, cant wait!! What do you think of putting anther set of boxes in .
if you were to but more boxes in the board you posted pix of i think going quad would be best . maybe 10.5 and 5.5 inch and 1/4 off the rail . 1/4 toe in and 6 and 6 cant . imho
Your back foot isn’t far enough back. It should be right at the edge. Watch some of the vids of guys who ride them well and you will see. You don’ t need to go narrow on the tail. Try it and report back here.
Greg I tried that, just seems to hit the brakes when I step no the tail. I tend to stay in the mid part with a shoulder with stance, gos rail to rail real nice there.A friend of mine seems to think I left the tail too thick.
Agree you should narrow up the tail and try a quad. Maybe single wing to help narrow it down quick and give you some bite. Yours has barely any outline curve so short radius turns must be muscled.
On the bottom, any concave should be mild and definitely vee out the tail. Hullish soft rails up front also help. I just made this one and absolutely love it in small waves. Turns on a dime. 5’6" x 21.5" x 2 3/8". I’m 185 lbs.
It doesn’t need to be 3" thick if you maintain reasonable thickness through the entire foil.
I had a 5-2 like in the pic above , 21.5 wide and 2.5 thick . fins were set at 8" up and 1.25 off the rail for the main fin and canrards were overlaped 3/8 of an inch - one inch over . same toe and cant . main fins were 5 3/8 base and 5.5 height , cannards were 3.25 base and 3 height .
if you were gonna do a 6 footer i think 23 wide and 2.75 thick would be good . fins in the same spot .
fins appear to be too far back. All my minis have much larger keels, similar to the tyler warren bar of soaps, and i place them at 3.5-3.75 inches off the tail with 1/4" of toe and 1 1/4" off the rail. These things can wrap cutbacks on the drop of a dime.
