I think it looks super friggin duper…epoxy?

Poly resin on this one.

I started a thread a while about a broken board that I was putting back together. This is the board…

Ray

Fine work! Reminds me of one of Shipman’s bonzers, not quite the same of course but…

Shipman’s. (Hope he doesn’t mind my using this photo)

Amazing how well that matches the fin panel I layed up yesterday at Hicksy’s garage …cheers for posting your quality work here , Ray !

Hello Balsa ,

The Shipman board that you posted was glassed at Moonlight Glassing. That’s the board that introduced Stingray to Shipman. I saw him at the beach with that board and started asking questions!

Hey chipfish ,

Post some fins!!!

Ray

Stingray,

Doing a swirl today and was wondering if that was a single bucket pour or did you use a couple of buckets to swirl the colors with so many in the mix?

Very Nice, by the way!

Pete

Moot question - just archived the thread from February. Missed that one - lots of the info I want for today’s board there…

Thanks

Ray that looks great. You are the swirly man, man! kodos… Balsa, does kind of look like that killer green abstract slob job bonzer Moonlight did for me awhile back. Ray, your work is quality. What fin set up are you going for with this one? Albert was a thruster. I do have some bonzer side fins and a 8" center box if you want to go that route.

Ray. If you are interested I got a 5’10" Fish in the waiting room all ready for ya and a 5’8" fish on the line.

patience grasshopper

at the moment there are four fin panels waiting at hicksy’s [one is his first ever fin panel]

Next time I am out at Grant’s , I hope to at least cut out three sets of fins , from my three panels.

One was the previously mentioned green ‘swirl attempt’ panel , the other two were fabric inlays …stay tuned …(yes , we DID get some photos . They are on Grant’s work’s digital camera]

Ray , Shippy , you guys do some GREAT work…thanks HEAPS for posting these shots !

…I LIKE colour resin work !

cheers ,

ben

Ray,

Great Job on the resin work! Are you going to try a swirl on the EPS? Would really like to see how that goes.

Rick

Hi Pete ,

I use 3oz and 9oz paper cups.

1 Part artist + 1 part craftsman + 1 part mad man…

The pour is just as important as the squeege. I’m still experimenting with different methods so don’t belive a word I’ve said in the past…Ha Ha!

Did you see the Austin Surfboards videos ?

Shipman ,

I bought the Probox Hawaii starter kit. Thought I’d use it on this board. I’m free this week if you want to go fishing!

R and R ,

I started shaping one of the EPS blanks…

Didn’t think about epoxy swirl…Hmmmmmmm

Think I’ll try a plane glass job for my first epoxy

Stingray,

Austin’s work makes me feel inadequate - I’d rather hire him to glass my boards most of the time if I could afford to commute to Virginia.

You say, “1 Part artist + 1 part craftsman + 1 part mad man…” Does the “mad man” go in the 3 oz or the 9 oz cup?

Thanks for the input.

Pete

“” Does the “mad man” go in the 3 oz or the 9 oz cup?"

…"the lunatic is in my head "

Pink Floyd , dark side of the moon c.197?

1973, March.

While we are at it, I think that “Shine on, you crazy diamond” might well apply to this one board.

How did you guyd know that I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd…

…there is no dark side of the moon…as a matter of fact, it’s all dark…

I was using the Swaylock's advanced search function looking for something I wanted to PM to a friend....I stumbled upon this thread.....posted 6 years ago...........I build 5 complete boards per year....about 5 more glass jobs per year for other people.......I have so many crazy ideas going on in my head right now. The next shape and glass job is a standard fish with clear 8 oz volan / cutlaps / Resin Research epoxy / no pin lines it has to be perfect....Funny how it all works....The San Diego Crew Rocks!

Stingray.......1 Part artist + 1 part craftsman + 1 part mad man.... That's a 2:1 mix if you're using RR.
