most important surf trip item

i am going on a surf trip to eleuthera this week and have been packing all the odds and ends. and i started thinkin whats the most important thing one can bring. and one thing that you can leave behind.

in past trips i learned never to forget the T.P and if you are traveling in remote style leave the dvd’s behind.

anybody got any other key things to bring, or horror storeis of things that they wish they had brought.

A safe bolted to the floor of your car/truck for your wallet, phone, money, etc. Believe me, going without this can really suck.

You can get by with far less clothes than you think, and reading material, but some epoxy putty can go along way, as can some good lotion/sun screen. A good sharp knife/swiss army type, sources of fire (fix a broken leash) needle and thread(dental floss), water container, trail mix, duct tape, nylon line, small flash light. A lot depends on weather and proximity to civilization. But, if it’s warm, way less clothes then I’d think. Have fun, Taylor

A fishing rod. I think it has some good fishing for bone fish and tarpon. Especially on the west side. I normally only were about half the clothes I take with. Also I always travel with ducktape. Good for patching my board and my body. Spare fins also

Keep well

A cricket bat! Just incase its flat. None of that Baseball Cr@p that only you yanks play. http://www.geographia.com/bahamas/cricket.htm

Your board is probaply the most important thing to take, plus Duct Tape, never leave the house without it, it has saved me from embaracment and near death on a number of occations now.

2 complete changes of cloths is all you need, it’s the small items that

the increase your cumfort that you will wish you packed.

Think water proff, air-tight bags in a number of sizes are good idea, or lots of plastic. cable ties can be useful to stop theifing hands gettting into your bags.

pack light and get inventive, enjoy the experience, oh and don’t foget the sunblock.

yeah, i am bringin the pretty much bare minimum for clothing. lots of boardies and t shirts. my girlfriend is the opposite. i think i may take out some of her stuff before we leave. but then i am taking my life in my own hands, i dont want to ruin my vacation before it even starts.

this trip we arent that far out of society so its going to be a lot easier.

i just checked long range wave forecasts and it looks like i should be getting some double over head.

Lots of sun screen,Have a great time I went there in 1978 and got some good waves in Gregorytown.I am sure it has changed alot since then. In 78 the Thompson family pretty much ran things in Gregorytown I think one brothers nane was Bruno. Have a great trip.

a friend of mine who travels all the time says “bring half as much stuff and twice as much money as you think you need”

I’ve tried it and it seems to work pretty well.

That being said, wax, Imodium, a xerox of your passport, and board shorts in your backpack are all very handy things to have.

“Half as much Stuff!”

Is this the same Keith I met up at Plaskett Creek?

Yup, but that was me with my wife & kids… she definitely does not subscribe to the “half as much stuff” theory, except to the extent that I take less stuff, she has room to take more!!

yeah thats what happens when i travel with my girl friend to, i take far less stuff so that we can travel with a moderate amount of suitcases.

I also use my girl as an excuse for the big luggage in airports, but lets be serious, we Swayolycks can only travel with little luggage when there’s no surf on our destiny…

Fins, wax, duct tape, something to read, half the clothes you think and money… you can live without the DVDs and the music, believe me.

extra fins and beer bucks…

surfed it epic in 83…have fun

Yeah, well I ended up going home early because I didn’t bring enough stuff. So, I guess that wasn’t too smart either.

Howzit woody, I take duct tape also but not for instant ding repair since it will take water, I take surf stickers for dings.Aloha,Kokua

none o’ you guys said anything about the uv fiber tube o’ toothpaste patch kit…

an I just traveled twice in the last twenty years…ta surf

…ambrose…

like Kokua said, duct tape is not water proof. Packing tape is better for dings.

Along the passport photo copy idea… inventory your wallet and leave the inventory and a passport copy with someone at home (credit card numbers…)

Lots of boards shorts and Ts? 2-3 of each should do. They can be washed.

sun block, sun block, sun block

several of the surf tourism sites have “things to bring list”

have fun

eleuthera, bahamas. not the third world. not cheap. bring money. and a good leash.

Super glue. Great for fixing minor dings and cuts on your board and body. Also a small first aid kit you can take with you to the beach. Think cuts , punctures and possibly breaking something. Iodine is a good general antiseptic.
