Swaylocks is definately a family of sorts… although I probably argue more with the ones I actually live with. Some of the guys that instigate and/or join in on arguments here are in fact the nicest guys you’d ever meet in person. I know this first hand in several cases. That makes following their threads even more ammusing sometimes.
It’s the personal stuff, much more than the technical, that keeps me coming back. I love seeing how stoked people get on surfing and surfboards from all over the place. I can see boards getting made in my neighborhood pretty much anytime, but where else can I go to see guys like beerfan, in places not traditionally thought of as “surf spots”, being just as surf stoked (more even) than groms in So Cal and Hawaii?
It’s not just me. I know a few “big name” surf icons that troll Sways daily to get a dose of that stoke. Just because they don’t reveal themselves publically doesn’t mean they’re not paying attention. Swaylocks is THE online surf community.
Hey Ambrose - It’s been way too long since I’ve been back to Kauai to visit my family there. I’ll stop by your place on the next trip for sure. I’ve gotta get another “surf for world peace” shirt from you. The one I have is my favorite tee, and it’s kinda wearing out now.
