I really dislike like and don’t like buttons.
Given the size of the forum and the archives, I do think that there should be some kind of 5 star rating for the really good threads… but I don’t want to argue about it.
That’s all you got out of that post? The like button?
...But generally the debate is healthy. For me the acceptance of many board building designs, materials and techniques in the surf world is something I always wanted to see. Used to just piss me off that everying had to be so narrow minded. This place, like no other, has provided a broader view for the sport. We have all benefitted...
=)
lol…yep
the now 7 page thread debating/pontificating/reflecting/skating around the doughnut hole on why Sway’s really isn’t a bunch of guys just arguing…and in the end it just really doesn’t matter…some like Miles Davis, others Mos Def, some like rights, others lefts, one size just doesn’t fit all…kind of like surfboards…
Was there something else?

I really love that pintail

Resinheads boards have similar outlines to yours john, clean n smooth!!
I railed against epoxy for some time
until I was convinced it was safe
then trained with
now I always have
a couple kits on hand
greg loher’s RR
is the only that I use.
he took time to explain
the toxcicity of the catalyst
and cleaning parameters.
without this I would have
stayed concerned and avoided
epoxy entirely.

greg argues well.
The guy probably has someone [Mrs] telling him what to do with his time. Blokes sitting around arguing is what makes the world go around, really. The like or don’t like button would be handy when you come to a thread late and skim through it.

One day a long time ago someone asked Swaylock's.com where was a good place to get a deal on a Blue Tarp? There's plenty of places to buy Blue Tarps...and the thread went on until The anti-WalMart people jumped on board......... I don't need a Blue tarp.... Today I went to WalMart to buy some Beer, and some beef jerky, and other stuff for my man cave........
I'm a big fan of Resinhead's shapes. Round Pin Tail for sure....want to argue....that's fine....can you please bring over some ice to cool off this beer I bought at Wal Mart..........thanks.

you cynic you

A wise man once said, what a woman really wants is for a man to carry her into the bedroom, throw her on the bed, and do dirty dishes while she takes a nap!
I remember that. That was kinda sad. That kid had more problems than figuring out how to shape a surfboard though
Hey Ray - You went to walmart??? I’m send back the box… Ha!
I was the walmart kook, although the other kook got way more bent than me… I didn’t really feel bent, just political. But many moons later… walmart is the only place in town that keeps my meds in stock, so there I shop… Ha! Oh how the kook has fallen… Ha! I still like a good silver tarp myself… even though I took a blue one on my trip…
Plus - lcc, see how cool SWAYS is, we can even argue about stores, tape, music, etc. etc… We don’t need no stinking surf boards to argue about… ![]()
always consider arguing/debating/differring to be good stuff as long as the name calling stays out of it, usually the default for the yellers…be a boring world if we all viewed it through the same lens…
A friend of mine, really good shaper, and I once talked about opening a surf shop together. He is a gun toting, Obama flaming, anti-government right winger, and I’m pretty much not.
So we decided that If we ever did open a shop, would just have to call it “Rights and Lefts”…lol
Hahaha, that’s good, see it doesn’t really matter what you are arguing about, oops, discussing, men need to do that, doubt if there was ever gonna be a world war started about the blue tarp, but someone would need to disagree,
H.
doubt if there was ever gonna be a world war started about the blue tarp,
Hahahahahahaha!!!
What?!? Wait… I disagree!
The banter is what keeps me coming back. That’s the most interesting to me. I can get surfboard building “knowledge” many other ways. It’s the community here that’s unique. When I did the Shaper’s Tree in Surfing Magazine a few years ago, the guy who’s name we no longer mention here was livid that he wasn’t on it. We slung mud at each other for a while over that, but eventually became friends of sorts. While I still don’t subscribe to his claims of superior surfcraft design, I appreciate his ability to keep forging his own path regardless of how many stones were lobbed his way.
I love it when Ghetto gets into heated discussions with self-annoited experts. I’ve seen him at work, and know firsthand that he’s got his boardmaking skills down. It amuses me when people try to puff their chests and challenge him.
More even with Bill T. How can you argue with a guy who’s done more in the surf industry than almost any combination of a dozen other Swaylockians combined? I’m glad there are those that do.
Sometimes the bickering gets to be a liitle much. I left for a while because of negitive vibes I was getting from one particular user. When I checked in again after some time away, I noticed some of the icons that used to form the foundation here were no longer present.
For me, it’s about who’s the one doing the arguing. Mostly it seems to be barney’s with strong opinions about stuff they don’t really know about, that then piss off someone who does know. That usually leads to a beatdown of sorts, and mostly works itself out.
Having said all that… what I like more that the arguing is the true support that users show for each other. Just like any family, there will be arguments. And just like any good family, those are overpowered by our love and respect for each other.
Just ignore our retarded cousins ![]()
