This is my first shaped board…2lb eps using epoxy resin
thanks to all of the tips i got here…specially to stephen pirsch
I already tested the board and it really worked great…not bad i guess for a beginner shaper and surfer…
good on ya mate !
what size is the board , and how were the waves you rode it in ?
where did you glass it …is that in a school classroom , in one of the photos ??
and , shaped in your laundry , or where ? [I always LOVE seeing threads of boards being made , and WHERE / how they were shaped !]
cheers !
ben
I shaped it in our stockroom…I’m a stay-in graphic designer in an advertising printing bureau, so I do’nt have a place and time to do it in our house…I do it after office hours, slowly i was able to finished it…I tested it in a 3-4 ft wave i guess, however, since i’m still a beginner surfer i really have to do more practice…At least i had the exciting feelings of standing on my first shaped surfboard
The size of the board is 8ft x 21.5" x 2.5"
thanks , “mainy” !
“At least i had the exciting feelings of standing on my first shaped surfboard”

good on ya !

Thanks man!You know it’s so expensive to buy a brand new surfboard here in our country (Philippines) even used boards, so I decided to search and build my own…maybe I will make another if I will have an extra money to buy materials for that new one…surfing is really picking-up here…the sport is now being enjoyed by so many people…
and , you guys get good waves , I see …cloud nine eh ?
cheers

Ben,
check tis’ out http://www.pbase.com/kage
Great photos Mainman. Are they yours?
I see surfing has come along way since I was over there as a kid, back
in the late 70’s.
I surfed a few times somewhere in the northern part of Luzon. The water
was so clear and the waves sooo glassy. Wish I had been a better surfer
at the time, instead of a 13 y/o grommet.
The board looks great. Something to be proud of, and surfing your own creation
is beyond spiritual. I just did it myself within the past week.
Congrats.
Hey Main,
Great first board! Those fins are awesome. I see a Bert influence.
I’m filipino too but I haven’t gone back to the Philippines in years. Could you give me a list of spots that break really well that are not too far from manila? I’ve heard of Cloud 9 but I hear that its always crowded and breaks infrequently.
I usually surf shortboards/fishes so that should give you the kind of waves I’m looking for. When I go back, I’m planning on making some boards and just giving them to the locals. Yeah, from what I hear surfboards and skimboards are like gold over there. It’s too bad considering the kind of beaches and waves that we have.
Cheers,
Rio
Great job Mainman. the board looks awsome.
i just returned from Siquijor down by Dumagete about a month ago.
that place is beautiful!
hey Daklaw, didn’t you just start a thread a little while back asking
for GPS coordinates to surfspots?
Hey Chris,
Haha yeah. good memory. Unfortunately, I got shot down. its all good though. This is why I think GPS coordinates would be so good. You could just send me a GPS coordinate file of where you surfed, then I could just search for the place when I’m there (but that scares people). So Dumagete is a good spot for surfing? What kind of wave is it? any other places that you went to? Thanks.
Cheers,
Rio
Hi Riddim! Those pictures were not mine, that webpage belongs to a female surfer/photographer, her name is Kage…she covers most of the surfing events here in P.I., she’s really great shooter…!Yeah I know! surfing maybe started here as early as 70’s but due to lack of resources like boards ang surfing stuffs the sport was not immeadiately came into highlight, until maybe late 90’s…Now surfboards are everywhere…but the price is really killing an average man here…if u don’t have money you really can’t surf unless rent a board…making your own board is really much cheaper than buying a brandnew one… Maybe you surfed the waves of La union, it’s a 7 hour drive from manila…Northern part…keep in touch man!
mainman
Rio,
Thanks! Those fins were really inspired by Bert…The nearest place you can surf is Zambales…From there you can choose from so many spots…it’s a 4 hour drive from manila, accomodation is cheap but nice or you can go farther north which is La union a 6 hour drive from manila. From where are you here in the P.I.? Please let me know when you are coming back here…Many locals will be glad once inherited with boards, thanks to you…you can e-mail me at arnel68ph@yahoo.com

Thanks ChrisP! What did you do in dumaguete? did you surf there?
