My "fish"....SOME of the fin setups [photos]

[pre-cutout and sanding] … a keel to match the "Prawn’'s colour scheme !!

Hey chip.

How do you like the twinzer setup? (The one with the two little tiny sidebites in the front and the standard-sized fins in the back?)

Any pros or cons in it? Or any significant things that you noticed about that particular setup?

hi JLW !

I found it loose ( a bit too loose for my liking , actually) … and that was only riding it in chest high beachbreak [!]

I would want bigger front fins if I was going to ride it in overhead surf … maybe something like the [all-black] five fins setup you see in a later photo , come to think of it .

The wider tail on the ‘prawn’ , coupled with my light weight , I feel needs a back fin , or bigger side fins to hold it in on suckier waves .

…just my feeling…

okay, I hope this helps mate !

Wow!

Now - what I’d like to hear are your observations – ie different effects for diff positions/setups… I’m sure you’re the man for the job!

hi Silverback !

I sent you a pm , mate …I hope it answers your questions adequately …please let me know if there’s anything else , eh ?

cheers !

ben

Jeez Chip, you should call that thing the Swiss Army Knife. I’ve been working on a FCS setup for a switchable twin keel/canard quad fish, and the plug pattern I came up with in my head is pretty close to what you’ve done with yours. Thanks for your experimentation!

"s.a.p " !! [= “swiss army prawn”, it is then !!]

glad to hear you’re experimenting too …how does your setup go in your new N.Z. home’s waves ?

I’d like to see some photos of your board … if it’s not too much trouble , please post them here …

cheers !

ben

hi Acolyte !

…just wondering if you have any shots of that fin setup you mentioned yet ? please ?

[sorry to ‘nag’]

cheers !

ben

Some of today’s shots …

CROUCH more , damn it lad !

They look GREAT!! I mean GREAT Chipper! Espicelly on the prawn, fair dinkum, looks like you got some beauties today! pictures REALLY do speak volumes!

cheers buddy !

I had fun …

got a few in my 'flu ridden head , made a few too .

Hopefully the rest of what my mate Steve filmed will be some that I made …

ben

A nice feeling , riding your own boards and fins , I reckon ! Especially on such a mild [21 degreesC] winter day …

I’m sooo jealous, sun and waves. Cheers for sharing those.

you’re welcome mate !

we’ve had a few nice days this winter …LAST winter , when I worked every day it cranked , I was told “you really missed it” …

this year [apart from the 'flu] , and some REALLY big , HOWLING onshore days , I’ve tried not to miss it .

ben

So Chip, which fin configuration do you like best? Do you keep notes? Mike

Gotta love that wettie…

Hi Mike !

…so far , I’ve enjoyed all the setups I’ve tried.

It was definately nice to ride it as a thruster for a change yesterday , though . (I don’t ride it much as a thruster , but I think I WILL now !)

ben

Well …at least one slipped through unridden … [where was I ?!]

almost a month gone ??

I’ve had one session on each of these setups …then , “snap!!” go the bases …

"Wildy"s ‘cuttlefins’

by way of contrast , my thick

wood keels … chop absorbers !! [bummer they snapped … I’m glad it was at their bases, though !!]
