Just shaped and glassed a new small wave shortboard and i am not liking how it rides at all,its 5’6 19 1/4 2 1/4 and the bottom is relitively flat with v starting between the feet and when iim riding it feels as though it doesnt want to plane
and just wants to be on one rail or the other.
It feels as though the tail is drifting alot and it is very unpredictable, more so on my forehand.
My question is, would it be bossible to sandthe v out from infront of the fins and patch that section with glass??
Or should i just try and sell the board and start again??
I’m not getting it about v between the feet? It’s supposed to be between the fins! It sounds like you probably put too much vee in? Any pics? Sell it, or if you have box setup - try a slightly bigger fins it might help?
To the posted question question…Yes. The V is a bottom configuration that settles you deeper in the water. Also has higher drag coefficient than a flat, or nearly flat surface. Not a surprise that the board does not want to plane.
It was only supposed to be subltle v with concave either side, i have two other boards the same that work amazing, shaped by a well known pro shaper but like i said i didnt put enough concave and its basically just v. Shapaholic, its not a fish or anything like that, its a modern shortboard. Anyhow my question was not why it doesnt work (i know why)
What i asked is, would it be possible or has anybody ever sanded out something similar and patched it? or would it be bettr to leave it as is and sell it to a learner?
If you did what you said, howcome your board doesn’t work??? Tell us the truth, you just started shaping a mos ago, right? If you already know your vees etc., why did it fail?
I’m just trying to fugure out why it skid to a side?..is blank warped? Did you scrub too much off a frig n panel on a side? What happened little cub?'jk lol
Hey Lowel you outhere!? Here’s a good laugh for you! ROFLMAO
Note: I’m just laugh n bcuz every shaper has prob built a dog once…
lol Shapaholic, i have made about 20 or so boards in the last 2-3 years, glassed em all myself too
And i will be the first to admit that a few are dogs.
You are right in thinking that i have just started shaping, concidering i dont spam the entire sways forum with my one and only board and extensive knowlaedge on “VEE” as you do. :)
It seems you ar somewhat of a Vee master aswell as a fish master (in your own hands of course) since your one board and 6000 posts about said board!
And while im at it, where in my post did i state that the board "slides out"or is a “dog” the board surfs, just not how i like my boards to surf, feels like a quad, and i don’t like quads. I asked a simple question regarding sanding and glassing, but because the title included the word “VEE” you with all your Vee shaping knowledge chime in with criticism and laughter lol
Anyhow buddy, you have fun posting your laughable threads about things that are common knowledge (hitachi planers, spoke shaves, etc) and i will continue to shape boards FOR FUN!
and EXPERIMENT with bottom contours etc. FOR FUN!
P.s maybe concider a name change to something along the lines of “PostaholicVEEfishGURU” LOL
OH AND HERES A FEW PICS OF A FEW BOARDS I HAVE BUILT IN MY “YOUNG CUB” SHAPING DAYS HAHAHA
(few glassing shots aswell, just so you don’t think im telling fibs lol )
