No disrespect intended, but...................

Question: how many PSers (paddle surfers) does it take to totally ruin a fun day of waves for everyone else?

Does anyone here prefer NOT to lug around long, wide, thick, heavy, expensive equipment? Not to stand while paddling around swinging a boat oar?

Is it possible to enjoy surfing without hauling a truckload of gear to the beach?

Whatever happened to subtlety and finesse? To being unintrusive?

If Laird does it, then it must be cool.

Ah Parker you so wacky… Why don’t you get a mat or some thing, and don’t even use foot fins? ahahahahahahahahah!!! Taylor… You know I love you.

I wonder if paddlesurfers have to make amends to all the kayaksurfers they’ve screamed at for using - of all things, paddles - and generally “being in the way”.

I’m sure if I were surfing around CarveNalu I’d be curious enough to start a conversation with him about his act, probably even hint at an equipment swap so I could try it out…if he said no, I’d probably give brief, fantasy consideration to snatching his paddle, lightly baseballing his coconut and draping him across my board while I gave it a try, LOL!

And…I’m considering getting a kayak for those sucky, blown/close-out days 'round here just for some grins. Might even be righteous accidently kneecapping a coupla aggressive clowns afflicted with oral diarrhea.

Laird: hmm, got no problem with someone who gets pay for play. And who volleys that lanky drink of slink!

Hmmmmm… Hehe! Lets see, I’d have to say 1 dickhead is the answer to your first question…

As far as I know, the majority of everyone n Swaylocks prefers not to lug around a behemoth of a board and boat oar… I think those are the guys who keep all the majority of cool threads going here…

You mean like the other day when I went bodysurfing?

Lets see… Last time I checked all forms of surfing no matter what the vehicle all comes down to the pilot… Subtlety, finesse? From who’s eyes you talking? Are you being offended somehow?

I have nothing against Laird… Just for the record, Laird did not create SU paddle surfing… He never even knew about it for years then one day took it up… I do understand what you are implying though… I can’t argue with that… I was just talking to Darrick Doerner the other week about this very thing with Laird and people wanting to follow stuff they do… I told Darrick if they never filmed anything or promoted it, there would never be any issues and he knows all to well the monster they helped create when it comes to things like towing in…

Soooo what’s the point here ParkerDavidson… You got a problem with an itchy finger clicking on a subject you don’t like on the internet? You could just avoid subjects that don’t interest you… Hmmmm … What an idea!!

C’mon down and strike up that conversation… Hehe…

Hahaha! Typical internet banter… There’s a troll bridge in every site… Hehe…

I once got dropped in on OVER AND OVER by a group of paddle boarders at Ponce inlet. Had a good 6 or 7 of them and an old angry dude taping them going straight…doing nothing exciting on a giant boards. After getting cut off a dozen times…and not gettng a wave in about 30 minutes I joined them. Grabbed my 10 foot tanker and proceeded to show them what was up!. Kneeled my way to stardom. I got yelled at by old man Mcgruff, was called a “fukkin a$$hole” and told to leave “his beach”. I asked if he owned it he said yes…I said fair enough and proceeded to leave.

the guy owned it…

I paddle surf a lot and I’ll be the first to say a person becomes more of what they are if they are given the ability to catch more waves… If you’re a giver then you become more of a giver with a paddle… If you are a jerk grabber of waves, then you become more of a jerk!!! Sounds like you were surrounded by jerks…

nicely put.

Cattle prod - I’d say your a little late in the game to ask the question here. Search words “carve Nalu” - read, and learn the way to move about w/ freedom and respect.

====================

Last Tuesday while doing the usual morning Rincon check, to my surprise I find 2’ offshore peeling, full trim waves. There were the regular few out so I watched and decided to go out. As I’m walking down the trail, in roars 3 big SUV’s loaded w/ little kids who proceed to run down the trail, check, run back, suit up, and all 15 of them (15) paddle out to the take off spot. They had no input from the three Dads’ who just cut them loose on the stunned crew who, one by one, left the surf in disbelief. I tried at one point to approach the Alpha Dad w/ a question on the crowd control … he just said get over it. So I left too.

It’s more about how you conduct yourself than what you ride. By far, most of the few Stand up folks are seasoned surfers that have a great attitude about riding waves, and seem to be out more for a workout than wave hogging.

I think I’m going to make a pair of these for stand-up water skating…

Aloha Bradda Blane:

Speaking of disrespect or better yet showing respect, should every stand up canoe paddle surfer be paying their $5 to the AhChoy family for introducing this style of surfing… And style they had, with Leroy AhChoy wearing his flower lei, standing up on his board inside of Canoes Waikiki taking pictures of the tourist as they attempted to surf… Who can for get Pops AhChoy (Leroy’s dad) early in the morning surfing Populars with his paddle (look more like an oar) while wearing his yellow construction hard hat. These are my images of stand up canoe paddle surfing of my youth. These guy never hogged waves, they shared the surf and the aloha… This family deserves the $5!

Mahalo,

D

Well put!

It seems this thread shares the same issues as another thread…“this aggression will not stand”, so this issue to do with surfers of large logs is bollocks. Etiquet, manners, patience, goodwill and surfing with Aloha nowadays seems to be out the window.

Let’s face it, it takes one dickhead with ANY equipment to ruin a good day (although 15 kids can do it way quicker) Only time I’ve ever had waves snaked from me by a paddle surfer was a lifeguard at Makaha doing it, and he was so cheerful and having such a good time you could hardly get mad at him even if you thought getting mad at a Makaha lifeguard was a good idea. Get a mat, go surf where no one else wants to, or better yet, get a stand up paddle board.

Ha! This is the roots of it all right here… Bonga was there too doing it as a kid in Waikiki years before Laird and crew even thought about it… By the way… Laird NEVER claimed to create it and gives props to the beach boys… As far as the 5 bucks I’d pay my share in a heartbeat!!! This has added a beautiful aspect to my surfing life… My question is this… When I knee paddle, do I pay $2.50? Hehehe…

I want to add …CarveNalu, I read your story on the paddle board and really got interested and enjoyed the idea. The pic’s were unreal too!! keep it up and Thanks!

Blane:

For you brah, keep the $2.50 and one bar sex wax in enough (since your boards have deck pads anyway)! The more waves you share and the more you give with aloha, da biggah the discount! I think that is what the AhChoys would like. Wave hogs pay $10!
