“thanks to a good foil !”
Chippy61: I have been following your panel tread for a long time.
I have never seen photo’s of foiled fins by you?
Do you foil your fins or do you just make panels?
Kind regards,
surfding
re: " ....I have never seen photo's of foiled fins by you ? ".....
???????????????????
....WOW !
hi surfding !
yes , I cut out the fins and foil them
I have been doing that [and ...posting photos of that / them] for the last seven years here .
[and , even before being here , at Swaylocks ...I think I may even have posted a few shots at that other ...'er'..."forum" , too ? ]
if you wanted to , type in the box next to "forums" [top right of this page] to check out some / most of my fin photos here
[some examples would include , off the top of my injured head and memory] ....
'to nocean' ...a quad set plus "nubster" - type trailer I made him... [ http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/to-nocean
' fin setups [photo thread] ' http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/your-fin-setups-photo-thread
'fin templates' [ http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1027804?page=2 ]
"for beerfan" http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/mr-beerfan?page=4 I took video of me foiling them [the large keels] , also ...
NUMEROUS others also , OF COURSE ! [ too many for my brain to remember , this late at night ...dawno coming up , so i must away zzzz let me know how you go eh ? ...Just check out any of my [? dozens? of ?] fin threads ...."IF" you really want to see some [shonky?] foiling ....ha ! [look under "chipfish61" , "chipfins61" , and / or "chippy61"]
a search under 'fins' ....that 'should' do it if you type in my usernames , as well....
okay ...I hope this helps , 'ding ?
cheers mate !
ben
I was referring to this tread.
I guess I need to search more?
We make our own fins at the glass factory were I work out of.
Making the panel is the easy part.
Foiling is the skill set I most respect.
Thanks Chippy61 for the clarification.
Kind regards,
surfding
hi 'surfding'
.....you make fins and panels ?
good on you !
now ....can I see some photos of YOUR fins , please , and YOUR panels ???
I don't remember seeing any of yours posted here ... do YOU have any links to threads of yours with fins and panels made by YOU , please ?!
by the way , if you look closely at the photo at the top of this page , you will see two of my foiled fins there ...but this IS the 'fin panel' thread , so it's about fin PANELS ...the fin template thread shows some of my fins [foiled , and otherwise] , as well as the cardboard templates i use to outline the fins [as shown on this thread ...outlined , ready to cut out panels]
how long have you been making fins for 'surfding' , i would love to learn foiling , and your fin panel laying up techniques [neither of which i find easy] , from you ...
cheers
ben
cheers mate !
...I'd love to see you make some more again
those colours sound good !
ben
Hi Chippy61:
Years ago I made a few fins however I haven’t made any for a while. (Just remolded my shaping bay)
I have some really good templates and just hand them to a good fin foiler to whip me out a set of fins when needed.
Your energy is amazing.
My panels are boring compared to yours.
7 layers Red
2 layers Clear
7 layers White
2 layers Clear
7 layers Blue
6 oz Cloth
This is my standard panel.
I will have to make some more.
You have awaken surfding.
Kind regards,
surding
"Surfding" ...., this is just for you !!
I'M TOTALLY STOKED !
"why " , you ask ?
.... because ....two fin panels I gave josh "speedneedle " dowling [from here] have finally been templated , and foiled ...by HIM ! ...
AND , you should see the 'el mysterioso" board he is using them in ?! .... it's "OUTTA this WORLD !" , I tells ya !!
(the guy is a LEGEND !!)
cheers josh !
I want to keep sending him panels , just to watch in wonder at the stuff he comes up with ...man , I wish you lived close by , Josh ! ... because then I could donate my fin panel collection to "speedneedle surfboards" , in a flash !]
anyway , I digress .....
....here's what he came up with ....[the panels in question .... outlined]
cut out and foiled [one of the facebook characters " thought this was a wall rack for hanging boards from " , another [a lady] , "thought they were parrots " .... hahaha classic ! ....
gotta love facebook ! ...it has as many mad scientists types , and surfers , and board builders as at sways , and more photographers [yewww , STOKED !] ....also , there's waaay more levity / hilarity , and feedback there , too !]
cheers !
( " whatever happens , just keep surfing ! " )

Well, it's been a fair while between fin making sessions ...
"....NEXT ! " ....
...my first go at bamboo [inlay] . The "veneer " [?] was very kindly given to me , by a fellow aussie swaylockian ...cheers , mate !!
Below... on the left , what it looks like , with only a few layers of cloth over it . [ On the right , with 34 layers of cloth covering it ]
I'm guessing / hoping that it will come up a bit lighter in colour , once foiled. At the moment , it is quite similar in colour to my hemp fins. [ Could be an interesting combination for a quad set , perhaps ! ]
two finished panels , pre- filler ['sanding' resin] coat ...
cheers !
ben
...this is still the 'outside edge' , it has now been filler ['sanding resin'] coated ....

I' trying to get the most out of the bamboo panels ...
Six 'fins' from two 5" x 7" panels , and four fins from the other 5" x 7" panel . So, at present , TEN fins , from four 5 x 7 " panels.
[and ...yes , I probably 'CAN' get another two "one-tabber " tiny/small ones , from the 'uncut' panel , too ....]

And , hopefully , with the remaining bamboo 'veneer' I have , maybe ANOTHER four 5 x 7" panels , or else one 8x10" panel , and one or two more 5" x 7" ones ?
...I'll have to wait and see , eh ?! [...no resin at present ]
cheers !
