Cool one from the beach the other morning. Paul Gross prone board shape
Nice pictures!
Asym twingle?
symmetrical board shape with additional “inside” fin box placed for right points as an option; is what I took from it.
Paul Gross. Mats and prone boards. What is often overlooked is his shaping ability. He could shape a nice Yater Spoon and a very good replica of Nat Young’s 9’4” that Nat used in the World Contest. I forget what he called that board? Sam??
Yeah “Magic Sam”.
This one is definitely a real nice shape. The design thoughts with the incut outline and the inside fin box - I like where his head is at.
A paipo interview with Paul Gross on his prone longboards.
I think that the incut is actually an illusion, it’s really just a straight line. Maybe our eyes are just not ready to see complete straights on surfcraft? The second half of this video shows that baby in action.
He’s a good writer. Used to really enjoy his stuff in Longboard. I guess you would drag your feet to slow down and let the curl catch up. Too long of a board to cutback from a prone position.
Hey Muffcake - thanks for the video link, I think that’s swaylocks own “proneman” featured in the video, based on the fact that the name is the same (Roger) and he is riding a longboard prone at Malibu.
Yeah that’s him.
Here are more details on this style of board.
It may be a long board but it’s not a longboard. I don’t think Roger or PG had any intent on turning in this design. They are built for going fast in a straight line and staying in the pocket. Climbing, dropping, and stalling are the preferred techniques to control the ride.
Yeah figured as much.
hmm you might be right, but I thought I talked to Roger about it being incut and he affirmed. I don’t doubt that there are straight(parallel) other prior renditions.
If it is straight does the hip at the back not create an incut with how pronounced the hip is?
