Don’t take offense art my joke by the way…
Here is a great video of Ricky Carroll making a chambered board. Probably a few tips you can pull from that.

Unless you have exterior grade plywood, the glue in the plywood will not be waterproof. You will want to epoxy the board to keep water out.
Plywood is usually heavy because of the glue, but stronger than dimensional lumber. I suggest going hog wild with removing material on the inside.
Looks great!

I would try to get rid of most of your puddy because it is going to glare-look like paint when the resin hits the board. Wood dust and glue looks much better.
I love the rail pic!
Jesus...My first inclination was to cut it freehand on the tablesaw lol. Lots of ways to skin one. That's why I like shop work. I used a skil saw for all kinds of things that raise eyebrows.
Jesus is right and not just because he is from St Augustine. The straight edge and cicular saw deal is the way to go.
This thing is gonna be scary heavy when its all said and done! For everyones safety PLEASE put a leash on that thing.
Very creative recycling though. I love it!

hey lavarat…thanks for the tip about the putty i had no idea that would do that…do you think i could try and stain the putty spots i did so far to match better?
Dig that stuff out and piece them in with some core end grain of the ply.just push a piece through the saw and cut the out side lams off. Pare up with chisel to suite and glue them in tight, sand them up while the glue is still tacky and you''ll not see them again. It will look far better as that filler has probably got oil based additives and will leave a mark that you'll see under finish coats.
HA,HA,HA another double post. Stupid f ........n laptop
Damn it, another awesome project to get in the way of my supposed time out of this.
Excellent idea and work, love it.
Me, I'd deffinitely have gone with some weaker glue on the bits where i was going to break it apart. Failing that, the table saw and sled for me, but then, I'm just a chicken shit pussy with no chainsaw to talk of. For shame :(
I am realy dyin to se more of this board
can you step it up?
Please!
I finally got more done on the board tonight, I didnt feel comfortable cutting the board myself so i called on the help of my dad who has way more years of carpentry experience than me. Me and my dad split the board in quarters with the table saw. I was pretty nervous about this but it came out nice, now just a ton of chambering to do…
heres the sled we attached to the board with two screws to give a staight edge…as you can see i still havent gotten rid of that ugly putty yet
heres my dad feeding the board for the first cut…
after that cut we used the straight edge on both sides to halve the halves …if that makes any sense
hopefully more shots of the drilling process coming soon
Yup , your dad knows how to do it the right way. Might be a good idea to take his advise he just might know a thing or two. By the way its , My dad and I ! Guess you didn't get know proper learnin in school .
The sled worked then? Great job, looks nice and straight.Good luck with boring bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice project! great to follow
When you put the board together again I would take off the putty. Just fill the holes with clear resin. (it’s a little exttra work) but at the end when everything is coated you got that nice clean look (no putty spots ;-). or just as what lavarat said, glue/resin with sanddust.
enjoy the woodwork!
Oh Yeah!!
Lovin this one! After thanking your dad, I would consider asking him to help you glue up some checkerboard stringers for the 1/4 cuts and he might have a nice one piece of grain laying around for the center stringer.
Keep it coming.
I'm really inspired by this project, especially the potentially recycled aspect of it. Just wondering if you're planning to glass this or just seal it somehow?? If you're planning to glass it are you going to seal it first, just a thought that it might suck up a whole load of resin with there being so much end grain in there.
I reckon it's going to look gorgeous when done, keep up the pics.
Oh, and that was a crackingly simple solution to splitting the blank as well, I'd have got all stupid and made a way more complicated sled and probably made half as good a job at cutting it. Good one.
so i finished up drilling the first slice, and half of another tonight. I had no idea it would take this long! but its coming along. Heres some pictures of my progress…
Just a thought – remember to drill a hole between the drill holes length wise in at least one section you have to make a single air chamber so you can put a vent plug…
that is some beautiful work man I can't wait to see it completed
Good effort, nice rocker
