POSCA PAINT PEN ARTWORK

India Ink, is a type of ink. Many brands available. Ask for it in ANY art supply store.

Anyone tried the Sharpie paint pens?

You can get them here:

https://www.kingpen.net/ge_subclass.jsp?class=135UP&desc=Paint%20Markers

I did the spikes on this kiteboard bottom with them on a full sheet of rice paper

and then laminated that into the bottom over some carbon. The boards are

vacuum bagged onto a mold and the pressure caused the inks to bleed in

a few spots:

Aloha Thraikill!

Ok, thanx a lot, so just in case…posca´s have India ink right?

Mahalo

no…poscas are acrylic…and waaayyyy overpriced.

i’ve used the sharpie poster paint pens before and they were good (get the “Extra Bold” ones with the fat tip), but i think i’ll give the zig pens a shot.

Aloha soulstice!

Ok, know I see…a matter of brand…by the way…any Zig pen link?? I would love to see them…Price?

Mahalo

Howzit begginer, India ink is what you use in rapidiograph pens which come in different sized tips. What I do is punch a hole in the bottom of empty Zig pens and refill them with India ink. In my opinion this is by far the best set up for pin lines and art work. Aloha,Kokua

VB,

Go to woodcrafter.com man.

ZIG won’t sell you directly unless you buy pens like me.

1000 @ the time.

aN i HAD A HARD TIME OPENING AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM CAUSE THEY’RE VERY EXCLUSIVE.

WSo woodcrafter .com is they’re main retailer wholeseller.

I like poscas but to expensive.

SUNCURE.COM have them for 4 bucks if you buy 100 @ time. other than that pay 6+ per pen.

The good thing about the zig ones is thet you can use the wider part to fill in collors and the poit of the chisel to do fine lines.

Cambio y fuera.

Rich

Don’t use sharpie pens, they fade extremely fast in the sun!! Stick with POSCA or ask the salesperson at your local art supply shop.

Aloha kokua!

Thanx for the tip amigo…i will search here for that ink…a little question, waht do you think about using rifilled posca (hope thats ok, haha) instead of zigs? Have 3 empty poscas.

Mahalo

Aloha rickland!

Thanx for your patience man, I went to woodcrafter but the pics of the pens aren´t ok…I don´t know the right ones…Can you give me the direct link please? Thanx in advance!

Tu castellano es muy bueno!

Mahalo

Aloha gremmie41!

Thanx for the tip…I would love to know if you used them alone or with acrilic coat over it.

we’re not talking about Sharpie permanent markers, here. the Sharpie “Poster Paint” pens use acryllic paint. they’re exactly the same as Posca, only half the cost. i have seen no fading, and the board i used it on bakes under a south florida sun.

first off the art on those boards looks great Rich!

and for those who don’t know, Rich is a talented artist and

shaper. i have one of his boards that was really an eye opener

when i switched from my last board. it is now one of my

favorites.

secondly, do any of you have any experience using paint pens

with the eps/epoxy construction? Kokua, Soulstice, Rickland, Thrailkill?

which pens? on the foam or on the lam? on the hotcoat? thin coat on top?

if i missed a thread on this please let me know. it seems like all

the info on paint pens is in regards to PU/PE. thanks

did it on an epoxy hotcoat. sealed with clear acryllic. then gloss and polish.

Howzit begginer, I don’t see any reason why you can’t refill a Posca. The difference is that Zigs are made of metal where Poscas are plastic so you might have to drill a hole in the Posca instead of punching a hole. Just be careful not to get any of the plastic fragments in the hole. I just had some empty Zigs so I used them. Aloha,Kokua

Kokua,

Great link you posted!

Poked around and found the Faber-Castell Pitt Artists’ Pens. They’re india ink with 3 tip options at $1.80 each. Good color selection and one of the reviewers said they twist off the end to refill w/ fresh ink, like your technique.

Looks like a find - thanks man…

They also have 12" x 50 ft. rolls of rice paper for $8.08 - Dat be cheap!

Pete

Howzit Pete,Yes that is a good site to buy products from and the choices and prices are unreal.Aloha,Kokua

Aloha kokua!

YEAH, THIS SITE IS AMAZINGGGGGG

thanx a lot amigo, this site is soooooooo complete.

They have “Craft Zig Markers”, they are the ones you told me?

Thanx a lot one more time

MAHALO

Howzit begginer, Actually I don’t see the same Zig pens I used. The ones I used had a 6mm wedge tip on 1 end only, not double tipped. As long as they have pigment ink in them they should work. They also have rapidiograph pens on the site and those have been used for surfboards for forever, just look for the biggest tip size.Aloha,Kokua

Nice work rickland/ Rich.

very beginner,

I posted this in another thread, but for what its worth I prefer to use Zig Posterman high opaque water based paint markers with the Medium and the Big & Broad tips. I also have had excellent results with Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic coating #1303 and Kyrlon Matte Finish #1311, although I favor the 1303. There are a variety of products on the market, some better than others and the product listed above and linked below are just my personal preference. Quality and ease of use play a key role in my decision making process. I found the following products to provide as nice mix of both in my humble opinion.
