huh?
anyway…
nice board ryan…
Is it the foam or the resin that makes it glow, Ryan? ]

Dansan,
I was just talking about jim’s post. Everybody finds what works for them… everybody has a different feeling about boards and what they want them to feel like; plus they do ride different for different people.
I have found enjoyment from 8’4’’ Liddle to my friends recycle 5’8’'… there all good.
For me personally I like relating it to music thats all. Just some words…
By the way I like the way you described your different fin set ups. I liked the visuals it produced.
And made me want to put my side fins in the 6’1’'…
Depends how big you are compared to Steve K. Just because Steve favored a 6’8" (at around 5’7" @ 145 lbs?) doesn’t mean that size will work for everyone.
A 6’8" for Dansan (6’3" @ 225lbs) won’t feel the same as a 6’8" for Steve K. So a 6’8" for Steve K. might be more like a 6’10" or 7’0" for you…?
Greg Lidde said he experimented with different lengths (from 5’5") until 7’0" ended up being the perfect length for him…but he was also 145lbs at the time…(not sure of his height)
For me (5’10" @ 175lbs), 7’2" to 7’6" works really good. I don’t really like anything smaller.

Im pretty sure its just the sheer glory of the board…
either that or the f*ed up white balance on the computers camera…but more than likely its glory.
oh…that’s different…nevermind!
definitely try the sides…
greg had to convince of having the option
i only wanted a single fin on my 7.6,
boy am i glad i listened…
i use the side with the smaller center fin
he made me…exclusively now…
6’ Fineline stub for Mollusk (KP took these at Hilbers’ house a day or two ago):
Here’s something:

I’m taking a video editing class.
the little fish hull makes a brief appearance on the last two waves in here…hoping for more waves than we had on that day for malibu on saturday!
i picked this board up today, it’s a beautiful 6’2" HELLO SIGLO! thanks Klaus! you are the MAN!
where’s that basecoat? ah-HAAA!
Sick dude!!!
Where are the dims man! Leaving me hangin’…
That thing looks R.A.D.
Hope that thing comes with a surf report soon.
one more for good measure - there are no dims on his boards. i suppose you get called a plagiarist enough and you start feeling apprehensive about sharing? i hear from Klaus that Alex Kopps ordered 5 more boards for his “Displacement” flicker. can’t wait to slide this baby on something that’s really pitching. it’s bound to fly!
THAT IS an insanity. i’d love somsin like that about in the 6’8" - 7’0" range.
beautiful.
going back to an earlier point in a previous post - Steve K liked his 6’8" best of all it’s said, foiled as can be. 6’8"-7’ sounds about perfect to me too given the right conditions. i have a 6’10" i love so much and i still want a 6’8. i can see why so many people have so many different boards in such minute increments - i think for now that these 2 will do juuust fine. i got this new one waxed but looks like saturday will have to be the day, tomorrow’s forecast isn’t looking great at all - still…

Regarding Steve’s favorite board, the board itself was “magic” not the length or outline per se. He had it duplicated but it just wasn’t the same. Same measurments and everything. You can’t re-create “magic”. It just happens. 6’8" is not the magic length but it’s a good length for some people. Don’t get hung up on the length of 6’8" just because Steve’s 6’8" was his magic board. Yours might be something else.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with having a good quiver of boards for different conditions.
Agreed
Years ago I remember having a conversation with GL regarding one of his personal 7’ stringerless boards, and he was telling me the same thing, one would work really well, then a new complete copy would not work as well.
It can be the nature of surfboards:
Foam is not exact with it’s inconsistant nature,
Glassing issues (Temp, humidity, batch)(might be better with UV cure).
Stringers being made from wood.
This weekend I’ll tell you about one of the boards I’m bringing.

I doubt even machine cut boads can duplicate a “magic” board. I think it’s kinda like cigars (if you’ve ever had the pleasure of smoking a really good cigar), the really good one might be just one in a box and the rest are just ok. Same brand, same tobacco, looks the same, etc…
I think it’s totally personal and subjective. One guy’s “magic” board might be “magic” only to him. If you or I tried it, we might not be able to feel the “magic”.
great point man - different stokes for different folks
Eureka!
“It is most famously attributed to the ancient Greek scholar Archimedes; he reportedly proclaimed, “Eureka!” when he stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose – he suddenly understood that the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of his body he had submerged. This meant that the volume of irregular objects could be calculated with precision, a previously intractable problem. He is said to have been so eager to share his realisation that he leapt out of his bathtub and ran through the streets of Syracuse naked.” - WIKIPEDIA

BTW at Wavefront Surfshop there is a beauty of a 7’8" GL in the used rack for $485 (no I’m just a patron of the shop).
