whatever came of LeeV’s twin keel hull?
another point concept…“concept board” …mine
6.8 x 22 x 3 stubbie(see attached pics for references)
i first tried the board as a single using a 9" true ames lflex center about 11 1/2’ from tail
rode like a traditional hull/stubbie…
picture dave lloyld videos on allaboutsurf.com/artilces/sixfeet
i looked around and found turbo thrusters by turbo tunnel…
6cm and flexy…however, needed a lok box adapter for fcs
since they only come in fcs or futures
and changed center to a wider base 8" true ames lflex about 10 1/2’ from tail…
seemed to the best of both worlds …glide and speed
with tighter rail turns…could hit the lip, floaters, very steep drops,
and lots of speed with tighter rail turns than single fin set-up,
this is my favorite set-up…
picture brian hilbers geebee vid on the mollusk shaper section
then tried channel island 5" keels with a 4.5" center fin all the way back,
since my side boxes are further up on ryan’s other boards…
i felt needed the center for more control…
what a trip rode like a fish…able to ride out of white water
take offs back into the curl…very slippery feeling…
fun as heck…

disclaimer: now i’m not saying i ride anywhere near as well as any of those guys,
but i thought they would be the best suggestions for visualizations…
unfortunately no photos…it’s kinda frowned upon at sewers and rockview…
anyway…i hope this helps…enjoy
i feel pretty lucky and happy with this board
three different set-ups and feels…
oops my attachments are too big sorry…
i will send to ryann maybe he can help
nice looking rig there. do you have dims? looks like fun. curious if you can feel those side bites working in a turn. they look so puny but i guess maybe less is more applies
i feel the sides more on steeper drops,
seems to hold better
and down line the line…feels faster
which dims are you loking for?
board is 6’8" x 22 x 3 …me 6’3" 225lbs…
damn man - 6’3 @ 225lbs
someone i was talking with today was saying that 6’8" was the perfect board height - the board that Steve K liked the best over all so i ordered one, may as well find out how it works
Please post yer Hull pics - where one can compare different planshapes, bottoms, fins – kindly note dimensions, and geo region, and construction type ( epoxy, pu/pe, etc). Fins too.
yep i know we’ve had a few hull threads of late – but would like to have a thread with mostly pics of different manufacturers’ styles of hulls.
would be greatly appreciated.
Slds,

Yater - 2nd copy, w/o machine, 1 piece solid redwoods slab. templating the plan shape. These 3+" slabs cured for 3 years before this. Boards were for Humbolt Co farmers of some kind.
glassed w/ epoxy
Depends how big you are compared to Steve K. Just because Steve favored a 6’8" (at around 5’7" @ 145 lbs?) doesn’t mean that size will work for everyone.
A 6’8" for Dansan (6’3" @ 225lbs) won’t feel the same as a 6’8" for Steve K. So a 6’8" for Steve K. might be more like a 6’10" or 7’0" for you…?
Greg Lidde said he experimented with different lengths (from 5’5") until 7’0" ended up being the perfect length for him…but he was also 145lbs at the time…(not sure of his height)
For me (5’10" @ 175lbs), 7’2" to 7’6" works really good. I don’t really like anything smaller.
heh…
…6’3’ 225lbs…14% body fat…that ain’t bad for 49 1/2 yrs young
heck laird hamilton…is the same size…oh but i forgot… he’s a god… :-o
anyway…my favorite hull is my 7.6 liddle…
that greg made me…that one is magic…
anyway…again…
gotta log it today…

…there are no words…Yater is in a class by himself.
8’6" x 17" x 23" x 15" x 3 5/16" vee bottom
Jim,
I cannot remember but was your stringerless EPS or PU?
If PU, what blank?
-Sean
PU “black” tow in foam. Spence can comment more probably.
Surfblanks America 8’8" Egg blank, black.
Thanks, and thanks to Spence…
How’s it ride??
I only got it out a couple times in Ventura last weekend. Not the best waves but it had that familiar smooth bottom turn. Looking forward to surfindabu this Sat. morning and feeling it out some more.
Keep us junkies posted
i know kp and tim bowler did some flex keel stuff long ago-kp-chime in here.....
KP asked me to post this pic so I know nothing about it except for the below comment:
Comment - I got these from TRUE AMES years ago they were a one off set by Greenough made in Aus. They really flex a lot. - Kirk Putnam
kinda like music…
sometimes want to relax with some smooth jazz,
other times want dylan talkin’ nonsense
and again other days feel like hearing someone destroy a guitar…
everybody finds what works best for them
with what type of feeling they want.
they are all good and valid…
