i’m not sure if it’s the angle of the shot (center one), but it looks like it’s got more nose rocker than usual for a hull. ( i’m not even sure if you would consider this a hull, as it seems pretty flat bottomed and hard railed.) but it’s an interesting board, what ever it is. if poss, a piccy of it being ridden would be cool too.
the man that shot these rides a 7’0 (finless lately…i’ve seen him doing 360s near the inside) and he rides one of the yellow 6’3s posted here. he’s not on swaylocks but he’s got a crazy blog over at
meanwhile nico sb and his gal stopped by the ranch on their way out of the sespe sunday afternoon…90 degrees and beautiful…good to meet them both…talk around the bbq that night was of hulls-past and present-with the likes of liddle, gross, masiel and bowler being discussed…
Thanks again for having us over… we had a great time. I was stoked to talk hulls with you and Andy around the campfire… You’re a wealth of knowledge on hulls and the differences in approaches to the design amongst the shapers. I’ll keep an eye out for ya’ at the point.
Heres a tip on cutbacks on these designs, as you see a time to cutback on the wave let the board run just a bit longer and lower in the wave instead of trying to cutback midface, if you do this the board FITS better. Try and used more even pressure, instead of just jammin it like you can on 3 fins.
Jim’s Spence is one beautiful and clean machine. when you guys put it on the ground and pushed on the nose and tail i knew i was a spitballing bubble gummer
From what I’ve heard, I think the parabolic stringers are the way to go for both flex AND strength (not that I know anything about parabolic stringers…).
the first time i saw some walker blanks with prabolic stringers at foams, fins and fiberglass, my first thought was these would be unreal for hulls! my second thought was they would probably be a pain in the ass to shape the rails right with the wood placed out there like that. apparently it is a pain to shape the rails but the payoff might outway the hassle(might cost more to buy one as well)
