post Hull pics

maybe you meant

“showing pictures like that isn’t going to keep it at seven hundred guys on days like that”

?

malibu is no secret regardless of how it’s breaking, 3" even toe slop is crowded there - but i do get your motive and take it to heart very seriously …it can’t help the crowd situation sharing pix like that

no offense intended

If I didn’t do it, somebody else would is really a poor excuse. Why not just edit the pic out, and keep doing what you do?

as you wish

Note to all Hull entusiast/Users- Only post pics of Board Collections/Quivers, Dogs, or unidentifiable landscapes- (And Perhaps a few pics of blown out Huntington Beach surf)- Do not Name the Collection/Quiver or spot, Do not name the Rider, Do not name the Dog. Do not name the landscape. If in violation any of the above recomendations your “cooler than that” status shall be revoked.

i agree about Malibu - especially given the hull was born there. chances are that i’ll see Epac in the water at first point or anyone else who posts here. these guys aren’t just online here, i know some of them now and they’re good guys for the most part. vibes are jivey enough in the water at Malibu (aka “Bu” or “the Bu” - sigh) already, so why make it worse is my feeling? everyone knows all about Rincon and Malibu. Gamboa’s “come to malibu” rant in 1CADAY says it all, but for some people it’s ALL they have, literally. you see the same faces in the exact same spot EVERY DAY both there and at Rincon. sometimes there is a crossover and a homeboy will jump in his trailer, on his moped or unicycle with his dog, into his polka dot spotted westfalia, or behind the wheel of his rusted out stationwagon, and make the migration to the alternate point to go get some waves or just to look at them and talk the talk. it is it’s own state on land and in the water and the cops and the mob are the other surfers. it’s not just a movie, it’s a trilogy and to have that you have to have bad guys. in fact EVERYONE out there is a bad guy, you aren’t alone there ever and everyone in the lineup is wishing that everyone else would kook and pull a header so they can lap up the dwindling scraps…it’s getting worse every day… would me posting 1 pic… or 5 change that? probably not

these are both great shots of Steve on Musko, i won’t say where he’s surfing - let the guessing games begin

Does anybody know what’s up with Klaus Jones’ Sigle? Purpose/specialty?

Before I leave, I’ll just say that there ought to be some compromise in there somewhere. The cameras and forecast for advertising hype is bad enough. Adding to it, because of it is weird in my book.

All it takes is a digital and one person to add to it.

Mostly, people go by themselves. Now, they come in groups, paddle right out to the spot, sit, back paddle, shoot pics, post the vid. That’s a tough one for me. Seems selfish.

OK, I give up

have fun

is this a joke?!

We could use codes or euphemisms for this spot.

ie: DaZoo, Alibuma (pig latin), stinky creek, The Proving Ground, The Point

or the Cluster F__K. Feel free to use your own

I agree with 9N78W, if a spot has a cam, no complaining allowed.

I know where…

Great shots…

didn’t Greg Liddle Steve K KP Matt and a few others drag a camera or two down to Malibu??? was that weird or selfish? - horse pucky. as for cutting the crowd by any degree, you’d sooner hold back the tide, but i do genuinely sympathize with your cause as just another face in the crowded lineup. sorry if i offended you in any way shape or form

McMan - you crack me up … see you when i see you at the Boob - let me know when you’ll be there and we can practice our tandem hull act

let’s lighten up shall we?

Jason, thanks for posting that. I was going to but was afraid of loosing my “cooler than that” status  Seriously, what a pant-load. 'Bu is basically an urban disaster zone. Parking limitations to some extent will put a cap on max crowd but it has been so videos, still photo’d, magazined, feature filmed over the years that it is at the very root of “surf consciousness”. Definitely it is a good idea not to post names of spots but pictures? Let’s have a sense of reality about this.

2nd note to Hull Enthusiast/Users- People are asking me if I was serious- Dear lord…

Every one grab your nuts and let out your best Death wail- It has been done, and here on Swaylocks none the less- Malibu 2nd point is no longer a secret. The almighty surf search engine is now bearing down on this pristene jem- Damn it- I am back to watching my secret Basketball tournament, and secret home team on Tivo-

Forget it…dream on, amigo! The crowds in the water are the least of the issues.

Nobody should forget the Crapia Water Treatment plant up the canyon, which releases “treated sewage” right into the creek, which can literally raise the water level of the creek right before your very eyes…before running down and lagging in the lagoon. Drastically restricted water supplies are right now forcing places like Orange County to start upgrading equipment so treated sewage will turn into “drinking water”, and eventually that will happen here too, so down the line the water quality at this place will no doubt get better as the masses literally ingest their own waste, but that’s years away…and people still come.

As to parking, or lack thereof…this is a non-issue at the Zoo. It is a little known fact just why the definitive judgement on the shortboard revolution took place at The Zoo during that famous south swell in summer 1968. Even The Zoo accepted the short board that season…because there were so many people and cars even the regulars had to walk a long ways, and longboards were way too heavy compared to the new shortboards. Plus the Resin Swirls on the boards…Thus a revolution was completed.

Oddly enough, the return of the longboard in modern times was also a Zoo Movement. Material advancements made longboards a bit lighter, which compensated for the crowds, and nobody wanted to wallow down low in that foul water in the era of AIDS and Flesh-Eating bacteria.

Nels

Edited to maintain the Gentlemen’s Agreement on Surf Spot Names.

And with gas prices so high now, originally some of us thought that this would reduce crowds, but no; more people will carpool, so figure 2 to 4 surfboards per car and it’s only gonna be worse.

AAAaaaaagahhhhhhhhhh!!! (apologies to Charlie Brown)

I’ve heard from older-timers who surfed Surfrider Beach in the 60’s that it was way more crowded in the mid-60’s than it is now. Seems true from the old pics and old film clips.
