Hey,
Finished a shortboard made of agave. It a little heavy at 4.0kgs with leash and fins but very rideable. I am thinking of converting it to a kiteboard if I am not happy with the performance.
Working on a longboard, next.
Peace
Just made a board, It is 7’10" X 22 3/4 X 2 7/8 twin fin.
Painted the blank yellow with a clear lam. Then resin circles before the sand coat.
Piteraman,
Nice.
Looks good.
I can tell the Agave you harvest there gets lots of moisture, hence the dark grey colors. (molding).
Were they still a bit wet when gluing them?
If you let them sit a while before glassing, they will lighten up some.
Quick seal with solor-ez will keep them from soaking up a lot of resin.
I can make them with weight comparable to a PU board,
Practice makes perfect.
Keep practicing!
Good word and thanks for the feedback.
The agave here gets plenty of water, and I like to harvest them a year after flowering so they are fully dry and can be pulled out of the ground instead of cut, that way I can get the base and make drums, etc - unless, if they are on hillsides then I cut above the base to allow the roots and leaves to keep the hillside in tact as an erosion control. In the year after flower, many will crack in the sun and let water in, which eventually molds.
My stock for the blank was dry, although my selection could have been better.
I like your solar-ez tip but I dont know if that product is available here. Would a thin coat of epoxy do the same?
I took it around to some other islands along with some beeswax surf wax I make, and minds were blown. I am generating interest for a workshop, and eventually I am aiming for a school to teach the youth how to take whats in their backyard and make boards that are affordable and local.
I am practicing on a kitchen sink now, yes, agave can be used to make even a kitchen sink.
Saludos
Ordered the biggest blank in the catalog.
11’8" BG
What a beast. 4"+. Lots of planer time to be had. Good thing my Skil takes 1/4" a pass.

OK, that last pic was not showing when I asked.
WOW! That thing looks amazing. 11-8 and no straight lines in the template! Who is this for? Care to share any more details about the build?
Customer asked for a 12’er.
This was what I came up with.
Biggest blank in US Blanks catalog.
Template was pieced together from a couple LB templates I have.
Wide point at dead center. 23"
For a company in Carlsbad. All the owners surf.
I think this is a test to see what I’m capable of.
Going to have several companies logo’s on it.
It will be hanging in their corporate office.
I’ll post more shots as it progresses.
