Bluefin i use same kind of vaccum system for more than 20 years, my first was for rc airplane wings and i do about 50 boards sandwich and some vac lam. I change compressor 2 years ago the last one break because of vaporisation of oil, he became very hot because of a problem with regulation. I introduce some oil in vac circuit each two use.
Lemat thanks for the tip. Any particular type of oil you use? Motor oil?
Hey guys, sorry to throw a tangent in the discussion. But I have a couple of new projects to share with any one that wants to check it out… Recently I ive been doing some old fashioned board building.
I recently finished out and oiled up a cedar alaia, and cedar piapo board. A PE/PU board build, of a 6’0"X19.825"X2.75" diamond tail singleXquad. and I worked up some art for an event coming up next week in the PNW and made a flyer.
what are the details of this event? I have never heard of it…
I use oil sell for air compressor.
Here are three builds I am finishing right now. left to right-
Evo/Omni combo: 5’11.5" x 20.8" x 2.75" 4oz S-Glass 3 layers deck 2 bottom Vol 41 Ltrs
Hypto Krypto (ish): 5’11" x 20.75" x 2.65" S-Glass 3 layers deck 1 layer bottom 36.5 Ltrs
3 Evo: 5’7" x 19.75 x 2.65" S-Glass 2 layers top 1 layer bottom 36 Ltrs
All color is resin tint. Doing this much resin work has really helped me improve in my process.
7 yrs ago I made my first surfboard. It was kinda heavy, about 18 lbs. I seldom ride it. But my buddy Grant made a wood board, came out about the same weight. So in honor of the occasion I dug this out from the dark corner of the garage.
i’ve never been able to get anyone to try my HWS, too heavy, not high performsnce, etc.
but this day a couple guys out in the water were willing to give it a spin. And they liked it! Said it felt very smooth and stable, they both got some pretty long rides on a small uncrowded day.
i was so stoked! Love to see someone having fun on a board I made ![]()
Got the chance to ride Huck’s fish recently, I can confirm that it rides smooth as silk. The 18 lbs that it weighs seems light compared to the 21 lb mostrosity that I took out this morning 0.0
Thnx Marquis
I wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes, but he did catch some waves on that odd looking little fish! No rocker! Amazing. I’m calling the maiden session a success.
Here is my latest HWS. It is a Brad Tucker frame decked with Cedar top and rails with Cherry bottom. I will glass it this weekend with 1 layer of 4oz each side.

Crazyeddy, This event is just a casual get together that me and a coupe guys thought might be fun. a day at the beach to hangout and surf and discuss and share our surfcraft. It is open to all shapers from the PNW, any skill level, if you shape come out bring some boards to sell or swap or to let people demo. The event is also open to the public in hopes to build some hype for local hand made surfcraft.
We will be setting up on the beach at Westhaven state park, in West Port Wa. Tomorrow Saturday August 6th. Pretty much all day.

PS,I would guess you had never heard of it because this is the first one,i apoligize if the word did not spread the expances of the whole PNW shaping and surfing comunity, hopefully we get some sort of turn out. in order for more to hear about it for next year. Hope to see you there.
From Italy with love…
Single Concave to Deep Double to Vee
Single Fin Glass-on
Glittered Red, Pearl Light Blue, Double Pinline. All Resin Works…
that is correct, it would be STD. I don’t see myself selling any shapes on the open market, so as of now there’s only one in the world. I had so much on her that I did in fact feel a bit dirty after surfing.
A 5’6 my youngest who is turning into quite a ripper.

A little 6’3 x 21 x 2 1/2 almost ready to get sanded… Lamination was ‘challenging’ but it came out great so far…
Will post pics of the final product when done!
This is my latest board 10’ x 23", 2lb EPS, redwood perimeter stringers, 2 oz. Innegra and 4 oz. S glass both sides. I vaccum laminated for the second time, it’s getting easier. The board rides great and so far is pretty strong as well.
