Post your Hull pictures Second Thread

not by choice my friend....

for the kids..be near the grandparents...

yesterday...was like small clean ocean beach/sf..

spinning sandy cylinders...up down the beach...

everyone had their own sandbar/wave..pretty cool

Florida does have some fun hull waves now and then. I had a blast all last summer on this:

I’ve been watching those two for a while in the classifieds.

I want every Spence board I see…it’s a joyous affliction.

I posted a currant thread called “Reverse Thruster Experiment”, anyway, it looks like that Burrito Delux board pictured could go that way.  Smaller center fin forward in the box, and the siders all the way back, or better yet, with back third of the side fin’s bases cut off so as to allow fins to go back even further.  “Looks” right to me.

Sickdog

Hi

Nice looking board, i have been interested in the Larry Mabile Eagle for a while but unsure about how they ride (you dont see anything really like it round this way. Possibly with good reason? i dont know). I surf mainly waist ish high fairly mushy beach breaks that section a fair bit just wondered if in your opinion this kind of board would fit the bill, i understand that it would probably excel on a nice clean point but in my part of the UK beggers cant be choosers. I am looking for something to link the sections and thinking this might be it. Added that there is now a company in the UK bringing Larry’s boards in it might be right for me.

Thanks for your help and sorry to get off topic.

KP says this is a 6’6" Musgo template:

mike,

then i'm gonna have to make a trip south

hull-up!  this weekend is looking good...shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

don't tell anyone... ;-o

yesterday...was a good day...for any board

after hulling it..

i finished up with my 6.2 mini-sim by john mel (but's another thread)

and ended walking a mile back down the beach to my car

because i had to chase every sandbar... ;-)

Yeah! If you ever get down this way, I'd be happy if you'd ride my 7'4'' and  give me a review. Hard to find experienced hullers around here....

This pic shows what I did to a double 4 deck on a very overshaped Clark blank, this board is just a PU/PE hand-lam test mule.

Just posting some pics for KP. He said these pics are "dogleg, testing the 5’10’'

Sure makes me want a burrito!

Post your hull pictures.. "hull" pictures? still can't get over this one. What makes a board a hull bord? Is it where the volume is placed and the foil of the board? I think a hull actually has to be hollow to be a real hull, but these boards are all foam. Boats have a hull, even airplanes.. If it's displacement of volume that makes a surfboard into a hull then it's really just about shaping evolution. Can someone please explain.

Also there is a a thread from 2006: http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1019099 titled “Is it a Stubbie…”

Bramberg,

I think this question has come up before on the previous thread (the old "Post Hull Pics" thread).

Actually "Hull" is really only a nickname for a certain type of board. Of course all watercrafts have "hulls". It's just the bottom part of the board. "Hull" is actually short for "Modified Transitional Displacement Hull" which is a term coined by Greg Liddle for the boards he makes which are ultimately based on George Greenough's Velo kneeboard and the Australlian standup boards that were also based on this design (see the movie "Innermost Limits of Pure Fun").

Nowadays, a "hull" is either a Greg Liddle board or one based on his boards since he is the only one who has been consistantly developing and refining the design for the past 40+ years.

There are several design elements that define a "Hull". Read more from his Greg's website: www.liddlesurfboards.com

Thanks for the input! I'll read up on those.

When it comes to experimenting with designs, northern europe is not the place you wanna be. The very few guys shaping here only focus on doing impressions of high performance shortboards. It's good boards but it's the kind you can buy in any surfshop. There are some sick waves here but no experimenting with odd, crazy and possibly great ideas. I read and look at pictures here at sway's and since I'm so in to designs and making stuff myself it's a great place to have. Even though I don't get to try out those wierd boards in the pics it truly is inspiring.

Innermost limits of pure fun can't be found online. I know a guy in cali who has got pretty much any surf film you can dream of. I'll check with him. Bought a film from him that was filmed in hawaii in the 60's by Homer Groening!

Reading up on the liddle site, this guy got the right approach-

"these boards are not for the onlooker. It is not meant to be a visual experience, it is for the "feel" of these board"

if you wanna find some funky boards in europe check out Tim Mason and a fellow who build boards under the name Royal surfboards.

both are exceptional shapers and build some really cool stuff!

I will check it out. I'm in the far north arctic region, those guys are prob in england or france right?

mijknahs-

Just curious where those shots were taken. It's cool if you don't want to say. Norcal or Socal?

Hi bramberg -

Are you sure you want to go there?  Well....OK, but first you must drink the

tsimpson,

I really don’t know where exactly those were taken. My best guess is somewhere between Mexico and Pt. Conception. Looks fun!
