Post your Hull pictures Second Thread

I’ve always started at the front and moved back. I find 1 to 1.5" from the front works best for my lard ass…

hmm. I saw that segment and his cutbacks do look a bit constrained, like his waiting and just holding on, looks a bit that way in sprout too but they edited it better. I actually had the fin jammed all the way up on my first session and moved it back bit by bit but soon ran out of time and waves to make any note of it. Right now the trailing edge is 12.5" away from the tail. I’ll surely be sliding the fin all over till I totally get whats going on tho. Thanks for the tip KP.

Greg told me to start 11" from the trailing edge and work up in increments of 1/4" (or 1/2" if impatient). I found around 12 3/4" to 13" works pretty good for me. Greg said 12" - 14" has worked for him depending on the board.

On my 7’2" stringerless the box was accidentally put in a few inches more forward than normal so I have the fin almost all the way back in the box but it is still 12.75" from the tail. Someone saw it and told me I should try moving it forward…

I remember Kirk telling me once that “You only need to check three positions; the back of the box, the front of the box, and right in the middle.” You should have seen the look on Matt Miller’s face…

Did I say that, I must have been tippin a few .

No tippin’, too early for that. Large amount of leg pulling though. What cracked me up was how well you and Matt know each other and he thought you were serious!

LeeV hes from Ventucky. Mr. Miller is headin down under nextweek to try and hull a few at some Aus. points with his new bride to be. AS far as tuning fins on boards every boards a bit different, there are no rules. I just start towards the middle, ride it and move it and find the sweet spot.

on hulls anyway, too far forward does NOT loosen them up-quite the opposite.it’ll be all drive and no turn. 12-14" as measured to trailing edge has worked out to be the proper range. i use to ride all my boards at 14" but now find it to be set somewhere between 13 and 13.5" depending on the board. you can try an 8" fin and put it further back at around 12-13"…as for the jg cutbacks that is one reason why they look the way they do-fin too far forward for sure.

Here’s something from the resources:

Identity obscured just in case.

I can remember GL telling me to adjust the fin forward an inch at a time, take the board out, bottom turn it, and when the board slips out on the initial turn up the face, adjust the fin 1/2 inch back, mark the notch on the box, and there you go. It has been a proven test for me and my stlye of riding these GL hulls since the 70’s. The new 8’7" Super Smoothie that i’m currently riding does not follow this rule, because this board rides much differently then the 6’6"-7’2"'s that were the normal lengths of GLs that I rode in the past.

radical edge bottom flex tail!

somehow i got roped into having that grumpy ol’ fart as my best man…can you believe it???

i believe mine is at 13.25 on my 8’7"

as i was advised by the gurus here on sways … 12.5" seems to really be a nice balance. especially after jamming it all the way up in the box and surfing 4-6’ walls at bolsa in freezing winter water at 6am for my very first hull session - not the right spot time or fin placement - ha - live and learn

now after 6 months of riding nothing but hulls (and longboards) on a board around 7’ i jam it all the way forwards - i vary it more on my 6’2 and i do sometimes jam it all the way fwd for fun. it doesn’t loosen things up but breaking out of a turn is way easier on a micro stub than on a proper smoothie

speaking of smoothies, this one is up for grabs…looks like a fun one

" 7’8" Liddle Smoothie hull. Sooper bladed, rides 8" smaller than it is, high performance mid-length.

Good board to occupy many holes in a Quiver.

I’m selling cuz my 7’0" is so similar.

400.00

good condition. "

interested parties can contact the owner via this blog http://thecentralshaft.blogspot.com/

you should consider posting that in the Surfshop here…there’ have been about 3 Liddles that have sold

almost same-day in the past week.

I’d snatch it in a heart beat but it seems a little low volume and knifey for my abilities.

Congratulations Matt on your upcoming wedding/marriage! I didn’t even realize you were getting married.

My 7’9" is too similar. Otherwise a nice board. Belongs to Steve Hadley.

Probably from around 1982 if Saf is picking up one of the boards that’s in his garage now. Has more roundness on the bottom than the newer boards.

(Pics belong to Saf and thanks for Paul Diamond for scanning them)

I’m sure someone knows the exact dates. These are pics Saf took when Greg was closing his shop before he moved to Hawaii. (photos scanned by Paul Diamond)

Templates anyone?

Looks like a lot of thursters and longboards. Greg did say that only 10% of the boards he made were the “real deal” hulls.

i believe it was ‘92 when he moved…i got a few templates but as usual, kp got the primo ones and the rest of the shop which is now located in his garage-sign, desk and all…thanks jim! she is a keeper(shit, she puts up with KP and I,just like his wife does… don’t know how they do it to be honest… it might help that they like tecate, surfing, cowboyin’ ,campin’ and old time western and bluegrass music…)
