Can you stick a FCS fin into a Pro Box? If so can you have cant as well?
Yes sir you can, and it doesn’t matter which insert you use. The downside is that you lose the forward/backward movement when using a fcs fin…you must line up the tabs with the screws.
Excellent. Now where’s Larry when I need him? I also forgot to ask do you do anything different for EPS?
FCS work in ProBox. Probox fins are best in their system. I bought fins from Robin and the name is Hanalai (spelling?). The install stuff on the web page is very good. With EPS I line the routered hole with 6oz cloth. It’s all in the instructions. Fin placement is another story but lots of people around here help me with that!

Let me help out with the fin placement: They go on the bottom, and pointy swoop thingy points to the back.
Hey resinhead…
I remember having to explain to a local (mexico) that his fin (single fin) was on backwards. It was definitely a double-take situation when i saw the bottom of his board. He had been surfing on it all day though…go figure. It probably felt weird when he put it in correctly.
Aloha Bizgravy:
Actually, you can still adjust FCS fins fore and aft in a ProBox.
The big difference is that by not having the V-groove that is found in a ProBox fin you don’t get the same compression fit. I fix this by taking a triangular file and filing V grooves in the FCS fin. This does not prevent them from being used in an FCS plug, but it does introduce the possibility that the tabs might break at the groove. So use at your own discretion!
With our new boxes the threads are strong enough that you can simply just tighten the screw into the fin, if it is plastic, and get the compression fit!
The V-groove makes a huge difference to the compression fit in a ProBox.

Ah…good call. I guess i just assumed all used fcs fins would have that little hole where the screw likes to sit by the time it gets to the probox. I’m loving the file groove advice though…why didn’t i think of that…oh, cuz i don’t use fcs fins…HAaaaa
Long story short…just get the probox fins people.

Hi deanbo, Just got home and notice this thread. Yes there is some difference to install Probox in EPS, but that is well explain on our website www.Proboxfinsystems.com. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free in asking me. Mahalo,Larry
You have to give FCS some credit. This new system looks like an attempt to incorporate all the best features of the other systems ( futures, Lokbox and Probox ) to some degree. I give them credit for making changes when they see change is needed. I hope they come on here and give a full detailed run down of the system and I can’t wait to see one up close in person. From what I understand it’s an under the glass system with two different cant boxes. Come on FCS give us the low dow.

Hi Solo, It’s interesting how almost 5 years ago people in the surf industry had a hard time with excepting the shape of Probox, because the look was so different and now they want to look like Probox. I am Flattered that FCS Appreciates and chooses to follow the Probox movement, but at the end of the day FCS is still a Twin Tab concept.
Solo you missed your calling, you should be a reporter with all the information you find before others. Nice to see you and others on this forum are so aware of what’s going on in the Surfing World.

Reporter?..Not in a million years. I don’t know all the details of some of this stuff. Still learning. I love surfing…I love surfboards and related items…I love watching folks get stoked on functional equipment and the wide variety of characters in our sport.
i think fcs should just stay the way they are
probox is good for a strong box system that is adjustable
fcs is good for light weight system that allows for tail flex and is simple to repair
i dont think there is anyone fin system that can do everything
if fcs dispense with the plug i will never use them again
glass over systems are not my thing
Howzit Larry, I have known Mitch since he came to Kauai and even gave him tips on surfboard repairing. I was one of the first to be introduced to the Pro-Box system and knew from the beginning that they had a great product to offer the surfing community. Here on Kauai Pro box has become the system to use. Aloha,Kokua
its a good system kokua
im building a five fin longboard that will get the probox treatment
looking forward to being able to tweak and dial
in this way probox is a superior system for custom boards
i do think for some people fcs is good for certain applications as well, like thin tails
Howzit silly, I use both systems. Unlike some people I have never had any problems with my FCS installations or failures afterwards. And Pro box is a great system for surfers who like the option to change the fin angle degree. I also like LokBox which I have the installation setup for. My favorite systems are these 3.Aloha,Kokua

kokua, Thanks for the kind words and support. Robin and Mitch always speak highly of you in past conversations when I would ask a few years back, “Who’s kokua?” Mele Kahlikimaka, Larry
Hey Larry check your PM.

silly, I agree with you completely, I also like how you think out of the " BOX " and come up with some clever board concepts. Mahalo,Larry
