Now if you only go surf wearing speedos and that mask, it will be perfect. You will never have to worry about fighting for a wave because everyone will try to get away from you!

As far as the foam fish in the background, my neighbor practiced using a planer on it and ground it away to roughly about 5 feet long…not to mention there are huge gashes in the other side through the stinger and its about as thin as a cracker. Its done son. Free for local pickup.

I can’t wait to get this thing in the water. 3 more hours and we’ll be putting the final layer of glass on. I’m stoked! Hopefully it will be done before we get our first hurricane for the season. Can’t wait for some good ole fashioned hurricane waves! We are gonna lay the glass down and let it do its thing. In the meantime, we’re gonna take los turdos’s 10 foot paddle log out to catch a few. That thing is so big you could probably put a lazyboy recliner on it and lounge while you ride!

wow!!! everything seems to be coming along great!

the resin tint is a lil light looking but i like it so far!!!

awesome board awesome color… i almost want you to shape me one… but then i wouldn’t be a shaper if i asked someone to shape me aboard

Except for the animal-libbers. They’ll be chasing him for drowning those tiny little budgies.

TINY is all you get in cold winter water … [as I’m sure you can ateste to , Doggyboy !]

I shaved off my mullet mohawk for that photo , by the way .

[didn’t want to scare rararaaaach and the all new “haolegirl” too much !]

Balsa, I just spurt out laughing going through this one, as I only 10 minutes ago read your site…

Theboys, trust this man, he has experience, and if you can read french, a good sense of humour on his website…

As for the watch thing… this is one that falls under the category:

« Ce mec a fait un nombre de conneries que je n’atteindrai jamais !.. »

Quote:

Figure8, good job! You may be proud of that first shape.

Just my 2 (€) cents: you should take off your watch when shaping, sooner or later you’re going to ruin a beautiful fine-sanded finish with either the wrist-band or the watch itself scratching into the foam as you do those final passes…

Thanks! New pics of the progress are up! Going to be working on the fins this week. All that is left is the final layer of resin on the bottom, a lot of sanding, and the fins.

Originally I wanted the board to be completly colored in a seafoam green. However I’m glad we went with two light colors. After adding glass and resin over the top of the tint, it ended up giving it a really cool marbled look. I think after its all said and done, the colors should be pretty decent. One thing that is cool about the light colors is that you could easily add writing or some type of design and be able to see it through the color. Just an idea.

Hey man the board is looking good so far. I know it is killing you not be able to take it out in the water yet. I sent you a PM about the throwaway blank. Hope to hear from you…

Note the consistency of the resin in the cheater coat pic. I was a bit overzealous in my mixing and frothed it up some. I think we would’ve enjoyed a better result on the cheater coat had I not gotten the resin so bubbly. Oh well. As it is, well be making and setting the fins next, sanding a bunch, and laying an additional filler coat down. Also, for clarity’s sake, the additional deck lam is free lapped onto the bottom. The board is gaining weight fast, but should be pretty burly.

We’re presently thinking the vent should go just barely above the swallow crack. Thoughts on that?

Sorry about the shirt thing. I need to get in the gym or something.

boyos

C’mon Ben!

Water’s colder here and we seem to have a larger breed of budgie.

As for mullett mohawks… Those things make me clear off… And the budgie factor shrink to naught ;D

All this talk reminds me of a seinfeld episode involving swimming in a pool…

think i can remember it. i can still hear george complaining: ‘it’s not what it looks like. honestly, the water was COLD!’

yeah, i remember watching that episode… one of the few episodes that i actually watched

hey, about that dudes site being in french, if you just google that website, they will translate it for you… thats how i can read part of the rhyno foam site cause that whole thing is in portugese

Anyway, back to the subject. I would just like to say thank you for all the pics. I’ve now realized I’m a visual learner and these pics taught me some much needed tips and tricks. So thank you and keep on posting more shots.

No problem at all. I hope the thread will be able to be archived for future purposes. A lot more pictures on the way. Next step will be cutting/shaping/glassing the fins. I’ve never seen the process for doing wooden fins so I’m excited to learn.

On another note, my girlfriend surprized me with a new board! I couldn’t believe it! She said she got tired of seeing me ride a board that was held together by packaging tape. hahah But I couldn’t help it. It was my only board (6’4 Local Motion Shortboard) and the back left tail was being held on by tape. Everytime I would get ready to fix it…the waves would be really good and I only had one board to work with.

I had just bought a 6’6 shortboard from theboys a few days ago. He removed the back fin box and replaced it with a longboard finbox so its pretty sweet…ride with one big fin or with a FCS twin fin setup…or with all 3! So now I have 2 boards to ride after riding one waterlogged shortboard held together by clear packaging tape! Here’s the board my girlfriend bought me. Its a 6’7 Shawn O’Donnel (SOD) Epoxy Fish and it is sick. I love it.

stop sucking your gut in , homer !

Hahah well you know I was doing my best to suck it in.

Chip…does the toilet flush counter-clockwise in Australia? Just a debate that every American has argued about at some point in their lifespan.

see the simpsons episode

it also depends on if you sit facing towards or away from the cistern , I was told . So it must be true , just like the internet .

…no surf there at the moment , huh mate ?

Actually we have a little bump heading this way for the weekend so thats pretty exciting. Nothing like down under but rideable. As soon as the hurricanes start rolling through, then we will definitly have some good waves!

Hey Figure 8,

Glad to see this thread. I’ve been following Swaylock for alittle bit now, but this thread pulled me out of the wool…or is that glass? So this is my first post.

I’ve been wanting to build a board since I was about 14 or 15…I’m 31 one now, and thinking it’s time…over-do really.

My other hobbies involve the use of foam to…R/C airplane wings. So maybe I’ll have a somewhat better start then others just getting in.

Anyway, just wanted to show face, and tell you to keep it coming! Your thread is teaching butt loads of info. Thx bro
