Sean shows up at my place with a Futures install kit. Router, boxes , shims , Video…How can I say NO. We installed the boxes Swaylocks style. Came out great…He wants the board RED…
I stall ,I mummble , I try to get out of it…But the board is calling…
OK let’s do it
no, red boards arn’t faster. Orange wetsuits make boards fast.
No Orange wet suits were used…
Well done Ray, you managed to make Red!!!
Was it hard after all???
Better pics needed, but that looks right slasher, real horrorshow, yeah, congratulations!
I’m really stoked about this project…I’m hoping Sean will chime in about the shape and the foam…
…Red…red…red…I called Resinhead. Jay and I have become friends through the Swaylock’s get togethers at Keith’s house…Jay says “Pigment…don’t waste your time with paint…”…
Share the stoke!!!

From one night owl to another…
Great job Ray!
NOW THat BOARD IS>>>FAST!!!
and red.
now he really owes ya.
real red and real fast.
he is soooo fortunate to have somebody do such a good red.
…ambrose…
this is the sound of me standing and applauding.
you nailed it Ray!
turned out great!
If the speed is proportional to the red, then surely Mach 2 will be attained
Great work, Ray!
you put it down on the concrete??? Gaaah!
Looks really nice BTW
My one is faster than yours mister bond , cause its a red one. (Kevin Bloody Wison)
I have a big ego , you might have guessed that… I can also be down to earth. In response to some PM’s and to give credit where credit is due…
Sean aka Chano shaped the board. It’s a Skurvee Surfboard.
Mixing the color…I decided that 20 ounces of resin would be more than enough for each side. That’s a total of 40 ounces. I poured out 40 ounces of resin and then added pigment. Think about the cool longboards from Tenover and from Austin Surfboards. Stock red was too easy. I added a splash of black to the mix. Dulled it out to much…black is very powerful. Added some more red. No still not right…I dumped out 20 ounces of resin ,added 20 ounces of clear and started mixing agian. I got it but it takes some guts to get there. I considered adding blue but the color you see is all Red pigment with a small taste of Black.
Laminating…All the color is in the Lam. Sanding coat and gloss coat are clear. The bottom is 6oz cloth with a 4 oz tail patch. I cut the tail patch just like T Sanders and Austin explained in one of their threads. Thanks guys… The deck is 6/4…I’ve learned on my own but watching Resinhead,LeeV, and Keith glass boards at the San Diego get togethers has helped…
Cut laps…Some recent threads about cutlaps helped… I used the two layers of tape method. Green 3m tape for the top layer so it would be easier to see…
Fin boxes…Photos can hide so much…Sean and I did a good job of installing the boxes into the foam. I had some trouble getting everything lay flat around the boxes during lamination. First time with Futures. I added small 4oz patches after sanding out all my problem areas. it’s solid now ,you would not see it if it was clear instead of Red.
Gloss coat still causes lots of headaches for me but I sanded out everything and buffed her out good
Go Swaylock’s Go!!!
Ray
Hey Leigh
We could change the title to POST RED BOARDS HERE.
Can we get some photos of your board without all the crazy reflections. The acid flashback bubbles floating around are messing with my head…
hi there Ray !
i was just wondering …
have you had problems with colour streaks in your pigment lam jobs ? [i seem to , from time to time]
do you strain it through a stocking or anything , prior to lamming ?
our west aussie pigments are the consistency of toothpaste , and are sold in jars …how about yours ?
cheers mate !
ben
that’s it. you’ve convinced me. my next board will be redder than red, faster than fastest, more pigment than resin! A RED ROCKET TO RIDE!!!
WHOOO HOOOOO!!!
