ok that seems to have smoothed over quite nicely …
as i was catching up on the latest developments i was starting to regret opening my mouth with the original post …
but hey i think we all just learnt something …
the whole title and original comments probably came out to strong in relation to the point they were trying to convey …
it was one of those days , when nothing goes right , where who ever crosses your path gets the evil eye …
the day where you kick the cat just coz its there , and when you walk in the front door after work , its all your Mrs fault and the kids get in trouble for nothing , then you log onto sways and its different and then you take the fcs fin selector test and snap !!!
but on the serious side …
i personally believe fcs as a company will benifit from a swaylocks presence (what better place to test shark repelant than jumping in with them )…
there is a fairly broad range of the surfing community here , youve got surfers freely exchanging thoughts that you would never have in the same room in real life …
youve got alias’s who run some of the worlds largest surfing companies replying to coments made by grommets , ex pros , legend shapers , backyarders ,up and coming shapers, retailers , quite an amazing mix …
hey i know crew who work for surfing companies who actually get paid to lurk , now thats funny …
so obviously sways has some real value …
if i had to be blatantly honest and throw in a few other motives which could be attached to this thread …
ive been doing some interesting work with the fcs system and im claiming itll be the fin system of the future …
the only reason some crew are not getting good results is because the instalations or the actual boards there being installed in are failing …
ive revamped the install to suit composite construction and its light years ahead of all the others , so it pains me to think about having to build fins , i would much rather fcs increased there range and actually get better in this one area…
if you look at the business as a whole its a small amount of criticism really …
on all other levels its a real professional outfit (wheres my new borer you slacker???)
having the rep drop by regularly to see what you need , taking on board the latest customer feedback , plus all the regular benifits of the product itself , ease of install etc …
salomon have a similar install procedure and have no drama at all , so once the world learns to build decent boards then the principle of the fcs installation will be the best performance option you could get …
all the other fin systems have had to be designed with the failings of current construction materials and techniques in mind , for the first time in my life im prefering fcs over set fins , this seems like a radical backflip , but the reality is its the only system that allows true flex in the tail …
the way the system is designed to be installed in conventional urethane boards , to deal with strength issues ,ends up actually hindering the performance of the board , all the other fin systems dont fair any better all creating similar issues in regards to hindering flex …
but fcs in composite construction is leader by far, even promoting better flex than set fins …
so the performance fin system of the future will have to look alot like fcs if its to have even a remote chance of being a competitor …
i think the thread in general did almost break down into anarchy , but the seethesea’s damage control was bordering on the stuff promotions are made of …
ive had a few interesting phone calls this week from others going into damage control from this one thread and some unique interpretations were made from some of my ealier comments .
but its all good …
some waves would be nice , and so would some floaty fat boy fins that i didnt have to make myself …
have to disagree with a few comments about fcs losing market share , this may be true , but only in the short term , when composite construction gains momentum ,fcs will be the logical choice …
now hows that for a stroke of good luck hey guys ??
ok catch up …
regards
BERT
