Surf will be Spring time stuff. Possibly early South, or Late North? More than likely wind swell that can create up to head high peaky beach break... Some of my favorite surf. Won't discuss where or when on this forum, but if it's working...we will go! I have a few sport that work well with funky wonky wind, so conditions are not that big of a deal....just swell.
If a longer period swell, we can surf the same spots we always do with Mr Keith.
Look forward to seeing ya, And in the spring time, a 2/3 suit will be plenty. Water temp should be approx 65 ish
Hopefully I don't have to go out of town that week etc.
we’ll plan on it Bernie! It won’t be THAT cold by our standards here, but I’m pretty sure you left booties and a rash guard/hood here already, and I think I have an asymmetrical wetsuit too, to go with your new board? April 25th is a full moon, we can go night surfing with Resinhead at Pickleweed if you want!!!
What size wetsuit? I got a couple I can loan or even sell, I can bring them to the shop when you guys come by. I think mostly LS in the 4/3. Lemme know,
Brother invited me to tag along, but I don’t have a wetsuit for that kind of water and I don’t plan to buy one. If I can borrow one and a board too, I think I might tag along for the weekend. I’m sure Keith would probably have something I could use. Maybe a longboard so I won’t be in the water much.
I’m 5’6" and 170. Would need about 40" chest and 33-34 waist to fit. I do have a full suit my neighbor gave me, but it is for diving in Hawaii and I’ve never tried it, so I don’t know if it fits. I guess I could wear it under more. Sometimes I do that here, like put a vest over a short sleeve top. Does layering wet suits work in cold water? Works for wind.
I’ve never surfed cold water except back in 1980 at Huntington in July, and we only used long sleeve tops. Froze my ass off.
Howzit Sharkcountry, I got a Rip Curl E-Bomb, (super-stretchy, conforming full wetsuit,) almost new I can loan you. It’s a Medium I think so the arms/legs will be a little long but not a problem. Super stretchy NOT like a dive suit, plenty warm. Of course your hands and face will get a little numb but that’s part of the fun! Not like Ewa brah. I also have boots, O’Neill, real thin/light ones. We’ve had a couple dips in water temp lately but to be expected. Should be okay by late April, it fluctuates a lot that time of year due to local winds. Maybe Bernie can grab the suit when he comes by my shop, or you are more than welcome to come by! I can show you the shop if you got time.
Surprisingly, HB can dip in the summer, you may have experienced an “upwelling” or you got thin blood brah, or both, ha! (Sleeves don’t normally cover your ass, so I can see how that could happen! ha ha!!!) Full suit mo’ bettah kine…
2 boyz from Hawaii lost in surfer’s paradise aka Huntington Beach for a week. Met David Nuuhiwa at Chuck Dent’s shop and he was so cool to us. Invited us to spend more time with him.
E… thin blood for sure. Worse now that I’m blood thiners. I get cold here in Hawaii.
Could always do SUP and only get cold feet. Hey do guy wear short over wetsiuts?
George, I get a feeling that my bro like me come so I can take his new toy home while he goes off to his convention. If I come over I’ll be one Opihi stuck to his side until I leave, so I’ll probably be with him when he gets the new toy. Think I going make his new toy my new toy till he gets back.
awesome. You are welcome to borrow a board from my quiver… I can almost guarantee there is something you’ll want to ride.
Jim Phillips is in San Diego North County encinitas area I believe…if he’s around that particular week, I dunno. About 1/2 hour drive from my neck of the woods.
Thanks Keith, will be nice to see your part of the country. Need anything from the islands?
Hey Jay I thought the leash goes around the neck. You know with the leash around your neck you only fall once, never ever again. I just hate it when your arms and legs get tangled and you can’t stand up just right. Didn’t know wet suits had zippers. My vests and short sleeve wet suits don’t have zippers.
In my old age, I’m wearing draw string pants. My daughter says I look like a farmer with these baggy jeans, but it’s so comfortable. Draw string shorts and draw string pants. Don’t need zippers anymore. If draw string pants are good enough for martial arts, it’s good enough for me. One of these days, my company will say I’m not dressing up to code. Then I know it’s time to retire.
Layering suits works great for wind protection, not so great for immersion. I've been wearing cover ups for years. The cover suit needs to be kind of loose or mobility suffers badly.
really liking the looks of this new drift “ghost hd” camera though. they even have a shoulder mount.
surprised gopro never though of that.
looking at that water temp chart i have to agree with my brother’s rant of why the hell would anyone want to surf anywhere else but here at home in Hawaii?
We are so spoiled, but where i live people don’t go outside at noon in the summer
its been 64 here lately and i’m wearing a down jacket and merino wool long underwear with;longsleeveseven gloves at work .
