San Diego April 20-25

In San Diego for a convention at the convention center 4/20-4/25.

maybe a surf paina on saturday the 20th?

my conference starts sunday and i’ll be with my fellow suits the whole time

hope to have new assym from George waiting for me when I get there.

but I need to get a better suit, probably a 3/4 that’s lighter and flexs better for paddling since I’m from a hot zone.

suggestions?

what’s the surf and weather like then?

We will be waiting for you!!!

Surf will be Spring time stuff. Possibly early South, or Late North?  More than likely wind swell that can create up to head high peaky beach break... Some of my favorite surf.  Won't discuss where or when on this forum, but if it's working...we will go! I have a few sport that work well with funky wonky wind, so conditions are not that big of a deal....just swell.

If a longer period swell, we can surf the same spots we always do with Mr Keith.

Look forward to seeing ya,  And in the spring time, a 2/3 suit will be plenty.  Water temp should be approx 65 ish

Hopefully I don't have to go out of town that week etc.

I've got a good suit that would be good for your available inventory. PM for details.

we’ll plan on it Bernie!  It won’t be THAT cold by our standards here, but I’m pretty sure you left booties and a rash guard/hood here already, and I think I have an asymmetrical wetsuit too, to go with your new board?   April 25th is a full moon, we can go night surfing with Resinhead at Pickleweed if you want!!!

Hey Bernie!

What size wetsuit?  I got a couple I can loan or even sell, I can bring them to the shop when you guys come by.  I think mostly LS in the 4/3.  Lemme know,

George

Brother invited me to tag along, but I don’t have a wetsuit for that kind of water and I don’t plan to buy one. If I can borrow one and a board too, I think I might tag along for the weekend. I’m sure Keith would probably have something I could use. Maybe a longboard so I won’t be in the water much.

I’m 5’6" and 170. Would need about 40" chest and 33-34 waist to fit. I do have a full suit my neighbor gave me, but it is for diving in Hawaii and I’ve never tried it, so I don’t know if it fits. I guess I could wear it under more. Sometimes I do that here, like put a vest over a short sleeve top. Does layering wet suits work in cold water? Works for wind.

I’ve never surfed cold water except back in 1980 at Huntington in July, and we only used long sleeve tops. Froze my ass off.

Howzit Sharkcountry,  I got a Rip Curl E-Bomb, (super-stretchy, conforming full wetsuit,) almost new I can loan you.  It’s a Medium I think so the arms/legs will be a little long but not a problem.  Super stretchy NOT like a dive suit, plenty warm.  Of course your hands and face will get a little numb but that’s part of the fun!  Not like Ewa brah.  I also have boots, O’Neill, real thin/light ones.  We’ve had a couple dips in water temp lately but to be expected.  Should be okay by late April, it fluctuates a lot that time of year due to local winds.  Maybe Bernie can grab the suit when he comes by my shop, or you are more than welcome to come by!  I can show you the shop if you got time.

Surprisingly, HB can dip in the summer, you may have experienced an “upwelling” or you got thin blood brah, or both, ha!  (Sleeves don’t normally cover your ass, so I can see how that could happen! ha ha!!!)  Full suit mo’ bettah kine…

2 boyz from Hawaii lost in surfer’s paradise aka Huntington Beach for a week. Met David Nuuhiwa at Chuck Dent’s shop and he was so cool to us. Invited us to spend more time with him.

E… thin blood for sure. Worse now that I’m blood thiners. I get cold here in Hawaii.

Could always do SUP and only get cold feet. Hey do guy wear short over wetsiuts?

George, I get a feeling that my bro like me come so I can take his new toy home while he goes off to his convention. If I come over I’ll be one Opihi stuck to his side until I leave, so I’ll probably be with him when he gets the new toy. Think I going make his new toy my new toy till he gets back.

OK boyz… da shark is heading to the beeg island of America following with the brown waters of Oneula.

Does anyone know if Jim Phillips is in San Diego?

awesome.  You are welcome to borrow a board from my quiver… I can almost guarantee there is something you’ll want to ride.

Jim Phillips is in San Diego North County encinitas area I believe…if he’s around that particular week, I dunno.  About 1/2 hour drive from my neck of the woods.

Shoots by april we may be trunking it, ha ha.

Everything goes on the front. Leash goes on the front foot,  Wetsuit zipper goes in the front.  Mt dog rides in the front seat.

hey shark breath

I got a couple of cheap suits coming in next week

a hyperflex 3/2 LS and some 4/3 XL japanese rubber suit from Basix?

so you can check them out

I also have this 15 year old quicksilver suit that I used just once in baja

i can’t believe how thick and stiff suits were back then.

I don’t know if Pt Loma will be the same after two haubush/sharkcountry mini-mokes pollute their break with their 70’s hawaiian style surfing.

Thanks Keith, will be nice to see your part of the country. Need anything from the islands?

Hey Jay I thought the leash goes around the neck. You know with the leash around your neck you only fall once, never ever again. I just hate it when your arms and legs get tangled and you can’t stand up just right. Didn’t know wet suits had zippers. My vests and short sleeve wet suits don’t have zippers.

In my old age, I’m wearing draw string pants. My daughter says I look like a farmer with these baggy jeans, but it’s so comfortable. Draw string shorts and draw string pants. Don’t need zippers anymore. If draw string pants are good enough for martial arts, it’s good enough for me. One of these days, my company will say I’m not dressing up to code. Then I know it’s time to retire.

I hope SD can handle dis lolo bugga.

Layering suits works great for wind protection, not so great for immersion. I've been wearing cover ups for years. The cover suit needs to be kind of loose or mobility suffers badly.

I'll be working...got bills to pay....Keith will stoke you guys out! ....Make sure you swing by Mt Soladad and Bird's Shed.....

I have Sundays off if you are still in town....I can drive down that way....Share the stoke!

Stingray

OK, got my checklist going.

Wetsuit… check, Booties… ordered, Gloves… ordered, Hood… ordered, Board… from Keith.

Jay, I must have the wrong wetsuit. The zipper is on the back. So do I wear the trunks over the wetsuit?

Is it warming up over there? Still pretty cold over here. Seems unusually cold for this time of year, or I’m just getting wimpier with time.

This water temp graphic is from Scripps Institute pier at La Jolla Shores where the water temp  can run a full degree warmer in  spring.  If it doesn't load correctly, click "refresh this page" on the site page or click the reload button on your web tool bar. http://tidesonline.nos.noaa.gov/plotcomp.shtml?station_info=9410230+La+Jolla,+CA+&flag=0#

..... So do I wear the trunks over the wetsuit? .......

[/quote]

no no no harry , ya got it all WRONG , matey !

  like 'the super  surfer '  [ in ? "going surfing " ?  / ? "five summer stories " ? ] ...

.....you MUST wear your jocks [speedos / sluggos / banana hammock , etc ] outside your wetsuit .

And,  preferably , for the full impact effect , bleach your hair [purple or pink?] , to match said jocks ....

[warning ...humour used in the above comments]

cheers

hey Ben

surprised you haven’t asked for photos yet.

maybe i’ll gopro it.

really liking the looks of this new drift “ghost hd” camera though. they even have a shoulder mount.

surprised gopro never though of that.

looking at that water temp chart i have to agree with my brother’s rant of why the hell would anyone want to surf anywhere else but here at home in Hawaii?

We are so spoiled, but where i live people don’t go outside at noon in the summer

its been 64 here lately and i’m wearing a down jacket and merino wool long underwear with;longsleeveseven gloves at work .

Hit high 50’s at my house yesterday. Fricken cold for Hawaii. Glad I have the wetsuit, I can go surfing at dawn.

Ben my speedos are black, my wetsuit is black, my hair is black.
