No, I’d say you still know nothing. “LoL”
nice looking work superlam. how are you getting the abstract marble effect on your eps boards. Looks like its done afer the initial lam somewhere in the fillcoat phase?
B
oh yay… looks like sways decided to un-block no1 for me. how nice, can’t wait till they fix that bug
Sometimes knowing a little is worse than nothing. Pigment magnifys all your mistakes.
wow… given this is a resin tint/pigment thread you would think there would be a little support for a guy trying his first pigment job. Thanks guys, really.
thanks pico. all my tints and swirls are in the lamination. i only do the resin bands on the hot coat.i do the eps the same as a poly board. the only differences between the two are with epoxy you have a bit more time to "play" with it instead of the normal fifteen minute poly window and the mixing(also, epoxy resin is ATLEAST four times the cost). tip:due to the importance of a proper mixture with epoxy i will generally get some help mixing my "mix-in" colors while i stir the base. I generally will mix each bucket the length of whatever song i am listening to
don't listen to these guys. read this whole thread, put a lot of white in your base to make it opaque( opaque will show less flaws than tints), and go for it! use tons of resin. put lots of pigment in your little cups. put mek in your base and disperse it into numerous buckets to keep from muddying it up. let your pattern settle for a couple minutes. have a rag handy to wipe off your squeegie before each pass(the tighter you pull it with minimal passes the more brilliant). watch a couple austin videos to get the idea. cheater coat until you get your timing down! post pics for all to enjoy. good luck
also: if it ever kicks on you or looks like s*#@ you can always pull cloth off and pull off resin with bondo squeegie. try again with fresh attitude the next day.
Thanks superlam - that’s what I like to hear.
yeah I’m not just winging it either, I’m doing this lam with my mentor who is going to be helping me with everything too. We are going for opaque for sure and I know I may get some muddying but that’s why I chose the simple two-color tint over the patchwork one for my first time. The whips coming off the blob are just to represent the “smear” that will happen when I pull that section so I know it wont look defined like that, its just the closest I could come in photoshop
Poor guy needs internet encouragement and approval before he takes on a project.
Come to Sways for advice and input from those who have useful knowledge.
Ludicrous!
What was he thinking?

well, there's rules you have to follow...or break..
and elders you need to respect or not respect...and there's deals to be made if you choose to make deals.......
I butted heads with quite a few in this thread...including DarthVader..........
When you open up that jar of pigment.......You Just Have to " GO FOR IT" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tenover, the only real reason I’ve found for putting clear on top of tints and pigments is to set the resin off faster once you’re done with the colours. People tend to let colours kick slower to give them more time, and then do a hotter clear on top to make it all set faster. The cleaner your colour is, and the less leftover colour resin you having sitting on top of the glass, the less muddying you’ll get with the clear. You’re probably bound to get a little when using a few colours, but I think muddying and blending of colours looks sick.
Here’s a 9’6" I’ve just done for my mate Seb. I think he’s happier than he looks (hopefully). The ‘model’ is called a “Bacon Sundae”. Beige pigment, the other colours are tints.
Semi-pig shape. Full bottom roll, short concave in the tail on the deck to hold water. That’s about it.

Hi ken,
Would you have any more pics of this stick on the underside at all please ?
Its siiiiiiiiiiick ! I just love it .......(the yellow and blue fishy)
any chance you would email 'em ? phil.hargreaves@etpm.co.uk
Philly...
That is awesome sauce…Would you mind telling me how you got the colors to get a nice clear separation like that?
hi Philly
are you asking me "Kensurf"?
Sorry man, I looked back and it was actually posted by etherealprodigy...
Tenover, I basically apply the ‘whatever colour touches the foam first, stays’ formula. One colour at a time, work it in, pull it off and wrap the rail. I deliberately tried to mix the colours a touch, which comes across in person a bit better. Fun to do in 36 degree C heat!
dont be sorry Philly
Etherealprodigy is/was my student. I did have my hands on that board ,, helped her through it start to finish
what page was that on?
