Here’s another done with acrylic paint on EPS
We just finished the checker board. 2 1/2 days of sanding squares. Wood D fin & tail block to match. All gloss resinwork! I think our best board yet. Let us know what you think. Sorry about resizing the pictures a little too small.

I think its just fantastic!
OK. Now I’m impressed all over again. Super nice on EPS.
Acrylic foam stain? Brushed? Wiped? Sprayed? Drizzled? Some of the above?

So, Ken, Have you gotten any ideas?
Hey Greg,
100% old school resin work on top of the hotcoat and then glossed over. Just like you would do resin pins but 576 resin squares (including the little ebony squares on the tail block and fin). Miles and miles of tape, super hot kicked resin, just the right timing to put the tape, and then hours of sanding because we didn't always pull the tape at the right time :)
Troy
Greg,
Sorry I thought you were talking about our board. I agree. Nice work on the EPS.

Thanx Stingray. No, not Morgan. Just a kid in his backyard.
Man that’s a lot of work! I’m truly impressed! Having done some checker jobs myself, the time it takes masking and then peeling off the squares takes forever and the fact you did it with resin is absolutely outstanding.
The pinlines are sprayed on first, let dry and then taped over to reveal the panels. The swirl is done much the same way you would do it with resin except it’s done with paint (Nova Color). Pour different colors and clear (I use Matte Medium) into a bucket so they kind of mix a little. Pour the bucket on to the exposed areas of the masked panels and squeegee off in single passes. When doing it on EPS, it’s best not to add any water to the paint because it will weaken the intensity of the color. One of the nice things about using paint is you don’t have to catalyze the individual colors like you would with resin. You can recover a lot of the paint back into the bucket and use it again on something else, though depending on the colors you used, the colors when mixed together, can be on the muddy side.
So, Ken, Have you gotten any ideas?
