"Outstanding! My question, if you care to answer, is how to do that panel? Did you do a straight-to-foam swirl or is it a cut panel? Not sure about the terminology, but if you glassed it like that (cut panel), how’s the finish weight? "
Vader,
Also tacking on to surfthis’s question…If you do swirl straight to the foam…
Does swirling directly on the foam mud more or can you obtain the crisp look that we see in your work with foam swirls?
Straight to foam:
It was easier to not muddy it, because you pull it off in a single pass. However, you run the risk of losing the color’s vibrancy (is that a word?).

I always let it soak into the cloth and foam and pull it off once for crisp clarity. I need to try a few on the foam. Then i want to try layering the next swirl with the cloth. Just alot of fun playing…
Howzit mudybech, The thing I like about doing them on the foam is you seal the foam, so no gassing or uneven resin staturation due to foam denecity imperfections.Aloha,Kokua
Wow…I hadn’t checked this thread in a couple days…it doubled in size since then.
Darth, you at Shoreline? Duh, I guess I didn’t even have to ask.
Where’s Leslie in here? She has to be a part of this. And I want to see more from Austin.
And Zeph. Bring it, man.
Mine aren’t nearly as wild… but are all done in a garage with UV resin and a squirt of cat when the colors are dark. Long live dixie cups I call the first one ‘Wonder Bread’
And my buddy Jamie from New Jersey (!) wanted to try one, so I sent him a lam… he totally worked it. He’s a painter (art, not houses) by trade (besides a little surf shop thing) and his resin work was entirely unexpected… but incredible
A couple I’ve done so far. It’s probably my favorite part of glassing, so every board gets at least one!
Five different colors applied one at a time then wiped off.
My most recent swirl, done as a deck inlay.
My favorite part of said swirl. The weird color bleeding looks exactly like flames! The board before this one was the most difficult one I ever made, partly because I think it was cursed. But this one is just a blessing.
Firstly i’d like to say HOLY CRAP! I think that pretty much covers it. I’ve spent the morning looking through this thread in absolute awe, talk about inspiring. Have seen things i wouldn’t have thought possible. Kudos to all!
I’m going to lower the standard now a bit. i must say i feel a bit inadequate in posting these especially in what has come before but here goes anyway. Before judging these are only number 13, 16 and 17 (altogether not resin tints, Boards 1,2 and 3 resin tint wise)
Thanks for the tip! My next swirl i am going to try it on the foam for sure. Seems to make more sense for alot of reasons…I want to break it up into alot of diffrent pours, something you cant do on the cloth.

Nice Mullet! Do you have a finished shot of the bottom board? That thing is sweet! Sugar?
