Not sure if my board deserves to be in this gallery of the most beautiful boards ever made but I did my best (which is actually not good enough if you ask me, but I’m learning) Stil have to do the hot coat an gloss coat so it’s not a shiny demon yet.
yah, hate it all you want… its for me. A bit tired of doing super clean cuts for clients, and there’s a new swell on the way so she went from shape to ready in a shift…no uv either…yikes!
poo army green with a ghosted slob job on one side of the stringer. Art fag pink and black inlay bottom, all in the lam, sanded finish…
and for the really observant, yes, it is infact asymmetrical…
here’s a stripey job that I did on a 6 ft scaled down version of a 9’6 longboard of mine, that I did for a charity auction. photo taken once it was all finished. handmade ply fin too. 1st time i’ve done a glass on, and it all went to plan luckily!
But with tip of the hat to Darth Vadar and Atomized, here is my “…resin tints and PATERN”
All with tempera paint, a foam brush and a some tape. I almost left it with just the black outlines, but I was committed to the experiment. I like tempera because it is cheap, doesn’t fade and I am familiar with it. I got a lot of compliments at the beach today for the maiden ride.
Notice the Shapers Ironing Board. You KNOW my wife was not within 100 miles of this at the time.
bit of a pig. unremarkable otherwise. except it is a quad fin and after today, I am convinced a wide tailed pig is well equipped with a quad set up.
cabsuggs , that swirl is inspirational, same to you pauluk, love seeing your work here. Here’s one I did recently. Starting to gain some confidence now…
A quickie, low-budget board, using leftovers. Made up the template from pictures on internet. Had the blank in storage for awhile, resin and tint leftover from past boards, had to buy 6 oz. glass (used about $16 worth), had a bit of 4 oz. leftover which I used every bit on deck patch and tail. Fin box and leash cup laying around the shop. (blank, glass, and shaping advice from McDing - thanks!)
Also had to buy about $25 worth of misc. tools / materials, so about $40 out of pocket, still need a fin, if I can't afford one I'll make one. Epoxy lam and hot (RR Kwick Kick, used just about every last drop I had - cutting it close!), poly gloss. Picked up the blank out of storage last Thurs., ready for the water by Wed. today. For me, that's quick.
6th board, first time using all foam, 2nd attempt to use tint, first time tint on foam. First time cut laps. First time resin pinlines.
Nice work again royal. How did you do that green on the first one? Would like to know the story on that. It almost looks like a pigmented board that someone sanded the pigment off of. Interesting look. Nice color combo on that sunsplash. All good work.
