Show us your resin tints and patterns!

Just finished laminating this tri color board, got some inspiration from kookbox’s. came out pretty good.

New mini-longboard (8’1")… yet to surf it. Colours somehow got a bit brightened up in the detail shot, light or something. Looks like that when wet, a bit more peach when bone dry. Just a sanded/polished epoxy finish.

Flo Green/White/Blue Tint

Here’s one I’m just finishing up.

nice will! clean lines. you know you can tape over the leash cup right? probably a personal preference.

Finished polishing it last night. 9’7" x 23" x 3"

Just finished this performance longboard - 9’0’’ x 21.5’’ x 2.5’’ - and took her out to the second reef off the coast of Tel Aviv for an incredible session on Saturday.

A note on the resin tint/pigment:

  1. The grayish color is Fiberglass Hawaii’s “Champagne” pigment with a little bit of blue tint (not pigment) added in.

  2. The wine red is Fiberglass Hawaii’s red tint with a little bit of yellow tint added in. The tail patch uses the same coloration - I just taped off the section, laminated it with the red/yellow tinted reson and 4oz glass, cut away the tape, and then laminated the bottom third of the board with 6oz glass and the same red/yellow tinted resin.

Thanks to all for continuing to inspire the board builds!

Sorry for the slight re-post but here’s couple I’ve just finished.

Asym - Full tint with polished deck and matt rails hull and logo.
Round tail - Mustard tint with big old laps and polished logo.

Will - thanks for sharing. The boards look great! I’ve got some questions for you:

  1. What was your approach to gloss rails and matt rails/logo? Did you just tape off the rails/logo when you applied the gloss resin and remove it after polishing?

  2. What kind of pen did you use to sign the stringer? At what stage did you sign?

  3. What was your approach to the white circle on the bottom of the yellow board? Do you just drop a little white pigmented resin on the glass and swirl it around with a squeegie until you get a circle, then go over all of it with yellow tinted resin after? Not sure how you ended up getting the little orange drop on it and the rough orange edges, but really love the look, so would be interested to hear what you did!

Again - looks excellent - thanks for sharing.

To answer your questions…

1, I did the opposite.  First I did a full gloss coat, buffing up all the areas I wanted polished and leaving the rest at 600 grit, then I tapped off the polished areas and gave it a light spray with an acrylic sealer.

2, 1.5mm Poska Pen on stringer line pre acrylic sealer

3, Applied white pigmented resin with small squeegie, working the edges with my finger to make sure nice and flat and let it kick. Then hit it with the mustard and worked it around the tricky areas with my finger again. Simple stuff really. The little dot is a produce of a dripped resin bucket, so a total accident.

Hope this helps

Right on man - thanks!!

Nice! Those white belts that wrap all the way around the lap and rails has me scratching my head! White opaque laid down over the previous colors already kicked?

The white stripes are done at the same time as the rest of the lam. I normally do the light colours first, so white followed by green and then the blue.
