Spring Board Building Challenge

Alright guys…

how about everybody start their own build thread.

Make sure to put “SBC” in the title.

I will try to participate too.

I have a few blanks that need attention including a 7’6" EA from Stingray.

Let 'er rip!!!

This sounds sweet!

I will just be getting settled into my new home in Colorado (eek!) around that time - so chances are I won’t be ready to compete by then (yes, I’m going to keep making boards inland… f’ing crazy I know, but there’s wakesurfers and river surfers all over the state). I will certainly vote though!!

I’m on board.  What can I do (as a moderator) to help? Will also join the challenge, of course.

See you in CO Shushka420…great place…no surf

I guess I’ll be making lots of paddle boards… Just gotta find me a friend with a boat.

Either that or drive up to Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park where they have this little nugget I can surf. I feel like a nice, super wide and super thick shortboard (like wakesurf style) could lead to some rippable fun on that thing.

I don’t read every thread - by the title I thought this was about a shape-off at the expo.  Anyway, just arrived. Not sure if I can participate cuz of crazy out of town work schedule, and taking care of elderly mom, but stoked on the idea, love the build threads.

My suggestion: two prizes, one for best board, and one for best thread

Looking it up, spring runs march 20 to June 21, so I suggest start anytime, but all boards submitted have to be done by June 21. Looking forward to some Swaylocks SBC 2015 build threads!

Do we start now?

What do you guys think about having several awards?

Best Overall Shape: Everything from first step to finish was done remarkably

Best Technically Advanced: Fancy materials/tehcniques

Best FrankenBoard: Came out good, but glued a hodge-podge of crap found laying around

Best Trainwreck:it floats

Haha sounds good. It’s late summer down here…
I’m aiming for somewhere Between franken board and train wreck

sound like a great idea. I’m in.

How about an art section specifically for the color/paint guys - less about overall shape and more about visual appeal (it does still have to be a functional surfboard, but the judging would be on the art and color work rather than the board itself).

Maybe a Wood category?

If the time it took to harvest the wood 6 months ago doesn’t count as my “start date” I would love to enter the agave board I’m about to start shaping (albeit I’ll need to start it before the 20th since I’m moving to colorado on the 31st)

KISS principal.  Keep it simple.

Why complicate things.

One board, any way you like.

It’s not about winning anything.

Keep it simple and we all win.

Simple is boring.

It’s a challenge correct?

So challenge yourself.

Do something never before seen.

New shape.

New technique.

New material.

Get creative.

Up your game boys.

I’m down with that!

Been wanting to try a “mini LB” anyway

So do I!

Great Idea…Go For It…

I’m really stoked on this thread…My real job has tons of overtime right now…I’m not going to be building boards this spring…but last spring I did a few…and I have a pal that wants to take me on some South Swell surf trips so I can spend my overtime money…Ha Ha…

And One more thing…Don’t nit pick the board at the beginning…Let the builder do his thing…Some of us start full figure and then fine tune from there…

There you go again… ?

Get as teck as you want, just don’t need to judge every little aspect of each mans build, just do what u do.

‘Competitive surfing sux, but copetitive board building thats cool’… go figure.
