OK, what is your point? Where do you want the conversation to go? Surf related, perhaps?
Over time
The fat penguin again , really? Haha
sone radical angles on that plane.
The SR 71 shape seems like it would be a really bad surfboard shape…
Fying higher acheving ridiculous speed gliding with the least amount of effort.
Speed gliding
It’s true that studying aerodynamics and then taking that knowledge to surfboard design is the best way to go wrong.
But its more conventional unfortunately
As a licensed pilot, since 1966, that has NOT been my experience.
OK, I was totally expecting that link to take me to some Kenny Loggins.
Where’s Goose?
too much cant on those outside fins. my air reverses will suffer.
form follows function. one of the big issues that is not considered with hydro- vs. aero- dynamics is that these both operate under the same principles, as fluids. while the density, mass, pressure, and other coefficients may be orders of magnitiude different between liquids and gasses, they are both goverened by the same laws (see: equations). the bigger issue to consider when taking design cues from vehicles of a different meduim is the concept of utility. an SR-71 and other aircraft are designed to handle laminar flow and relative pressure differences. in surfboards, the force inputs from the water are vastly larger than that of the air passing over the top of the board, therefore relatively assymetric. that said however, the design of things like fins are governed by many of the same principles that govern wings and laminar flow based objects. i believe the blackbird, while inspiring, does not directly correlate to efficient shapes for surfboards. a piper cub might be a little more relevant
its all about the engine more engine than plane
here’s the surfboard version
Its more about what the plane represents retrospectivly to what im hoping to acheave with the surf a board.
The sr-71 plane is the pinnacle of speed in respect to outrunning all other planes ,
If it were a representation in condition of parody to the world of surf boards what type of board would it be.
So far ive only cut out the plan shape ( not quite happy with ) and designed a funky logo.
Im looking at the length of board at the moment, 8’ is long egnough to have decent glide and maneuverability on all rideable waves up to 10’.
Trying to get the rail line streight as possible and still be able to turn it.
