Billy, we're all friends here, loosen up and tell us what's REALLY on your mind! (I can't disagree with anything you said, BTW.)
my 2 cents. if someone physically touched my kids would I run 100 meters, shit yes I would. So the question for me is what happened with his son, was he physically touched? I dont care what age the son is because I know if someone touched my kids no matter what age I dont know what I would do. I would probably run as fast as I could to get there and then who knows what once I arrived, its something that I cant answer............
But if it was just verbal abuse, then sonny has just got problems and surfing dont need that sorta crap happening in Australia, he should stay home and so should that jeremy clown, not wanted here...........
People should start demanding more from pro Surfers. One of the first things should be mandatory drug Testing.
One thing: We need to teach our kids how to gain respect the right way. Like I say, there probably 2 sides to this story...right? I would assume..here I go assuming, but I'd assume that there is a pinch of Sunny in the kid.
And 2: If someone grabed my kid, I wouldn't have to save him, actually he's at a point now that he saves me most of the time. Lord help the guy that grabs him. But with that said, most find it beneficial to just walk away. Law suits, Hospital bills, rehab, dental work, garnished wages, lost wages, probation, socital outcast.....or worse.
Death and Taxes..summed up on the tat I guess?
Respect other peoples bodies and time invested if you're a visitor that goes double.
Visiting pro or beginner get out of the way and give away more than you take.
If you don't then no one will respect your body, boards or in most cases mode of transportation.
If everyone surfed with the soul Tom Curren or Rob Machado did it woul never be an issue.
Case and point I have never hurt myself surfing it has always been the other guy that failed to learn the rules of the road or misjudged their own abilities.
Cracked ribs, stitches, head lacerations all caused by the guy I knew was going to do something stupid and hurt me.
In thirty years most of the time the toll is paid by my very expensive hard to get equipment.
I have seen people get really really hurt in the water.
I will never choose a wave over anyones safety and I won't accept people around me that do.
If someone refuses to paddle down the beach after someone decides they are a water hazzard they deserve a stern rebuke.
Always speak up but TRY AND be nice first if they are a beginner they may really not know.
At issue here is the simple fact no one wants to hear they have made themselves unwelcome as a result of their inabilities or pig headed actions and momma always told them they are special.
I don't want to see anyone get hurt by a stray board or stupid action and if it takes threatening to punch someone in the mouth to keep the people I normally surf with safe I have stepped up.
I have been Sonny not because I think I'm special not because I have a bad attitude but because I don't want to be injured by that someone with the entitlement mentality we so often see in the water.
Sonny needs to mellow some but the water needs a few sonny's to keep people honest and in line otherwise the line up becomes downright dangerous.
Just go surf lowers on a good swell in the summer it's chaos people need to be made to remember safety first.
Sunny deserves a beatdown. A disgrace to his Island.
Sunny deserves a beatdown. A disgrace to his Island.
I feel that the use of “…if someone touches my kid…” ticket gets abused. It seems the father has created his own destiny in this case. I’ve read comments on the behavior of his son, things that mirror and perpetuate the behavior and posture of the father. Know your children, loved ones. Own a larger perspective and help to end the chain, not contribute to its continuation. Attaining enlightenment is fast becoming the only means of survival, participating in futile behavior ensures our demise…
Amen, my broky!!
There’s a big difference between protecting you child and looking for an excuse to throw someone, half your size, a beating. Sunny Garcia has proven time and time again that he’s just a punk-assed coward with a drug problem. He doesn’t deserve the time of day.
clearly he is choosing the wrong drug.
Howzit di99er, In Hawaii even a Hawaiian Mom would do the same thing if some body messed with her kid. I couldn't watch the video because YouTube wanted my password and I didn't have it handy but some hows I was sent to a site with the newspaper story and they talked about the guy messing with Sunny's kid so as one who has lived in Hi so many years I have seen this happen many times with Moms and Dads. When Sunny was married to Cabell's daughter she was the hot head in the family and one Xmas Eve she got mad and threw the tree through the front window and her own mom called the police. When they got to the house they went for Sunny but the Mom said it was her daughter who did the whole thing and Sunny did nothing. All I can say about Sunny is that when he lived on Kauai he was a real nice guy and I talked to him quite a few times in and out of the water. A lot of people are scared of Hawaiians because of their reputation and if you show fear that they know it and will mess with you but I have always been just a friend and never was scared and I never had any problems and was Hanied ( adopted ) by a couple of Hawaiian familes over the years. Aloha,Kokua
I don’t know any Hawaiians with the last name Garcia.
im kinda more inclined to feel sorry for all the dudes hes beaten the crap out of
and you might end up in prison for acting prior to thinking
Howzit billy, Sunny must have either some phillipine or Portugese in his family tree because both of those ethnics have the name Garcia in them. Obvious about the Portugese due to the closeness to spain and in the past the Spainish would sail to the phillipines one way below Hawaii and above Hawaii on the return trip and they never even knew Hawaii was in the middle. It was just how the wind currents blew.Aloha,Kokua
Ya, that’s my point. He’s not really representing Hawaii or Hawaiians when he does what he does because he’s not Hawaiian.
He’s not a Hawaiian world champion, he’s a world champion who lives in Hawaii.
howdy kokua,

sunny says, “On my Dad’s side, I’m pretty sure my grandparents came from Puerto Rico, their family came from Spain, so it went kinda Spain, Puerto Rico, then Hawaii. My mother’s side, my grandma’s Hawaiian/Chinese, so that was probably from the Chinese coming over. My mom’s mom is Spanish Filipino and her dad is Irish American Indian, so I’m mixed race.”
cheers,
you mob sound like old washer women?
** cheers huie

In 1898 the U.S invaded both Hawaii and Puerto Rico as a strategy for naval control of the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Afterwards there were a lot of puertoricans who were sent to Hawaii to work on coffee, pineapple and sugar, both of our islands are at a similar latitude and produce similar crops. Hawaiians are like brothers and sisters to me… Even mixed hawaiians… and by the way, aren’t U.S.A people all mixed race? Native Americans are a little hard to find these days, many were killed by invasors, others were robbed of their land and sent to reservations. I can’t say much about the original puertoricans as they were all killed by spaniards or the diseases they brought so who ever is a pure race may throw the first stone Hitler…
