I just don’t understand what Sunny Garcia pounding some kid in the head has to do with surfboard design and construction. I thought that was what this forum was for- this kind of drama seems to be what you find over at the er boards. Maybe there should be another general discussion area… -Carl

Hello Rock, yes I watched and waited and couldn't stand it any longer , when those stills came out. This afternoon I rang a mate from Burleigh to get the low down on the young guy.I think its all done and dusted, not really anything that hasn't happened a thousand times before, just cameras and media now. Actually, No. I only post as my real name. I don’t hide behind a handle on any forum, and I don’t have multiple “troll” accounts. This forum has lasted plenty long enough staying on the original subject that it was intended for, I’m sure it’s not going to die any death, any time soon. As for your concern that there hasn’t been any surfboard breakthroughs warranting local/world media coverage: since when did that matter? Personally I’ve always enjoyed the fact that this forum was a place that a relatively small, quiet, subculture could come and talk. I guess I just yearn for the days of Mr.J, Bert, PaulJensen… oh well. I’ll go back into my hole again, sorry. -Carl

Carl Olsen if you think this is a place where only the subtle nuances of relevant surfboard construction and design are discussed, I going to let let you in on a secret; surfboard design is more trend driven than performance driven. Sunny’s situation is more relevant than the latest design trend, because ever since clothing corporations wrestled control of the industry in the mid to late 70’s corporate surfing has dictated what is important, and we all have been fed a steady diet of pro-surfing BS of which Sunny Garcia was a world champion. That in itself should make this relevant.
Personally I like what Harris adds because he’s done it for longer than most here, and I would probably be correct in saying he’s built more boards than at least half of the regular posters, or posers, combined. I actually like Sunny and have always had a great time whenever i’ve been around him. Granted the Sunny I saw on that TV show was a thug, so I can understand how people can dislike him from only seeing what they saw through reality TV. He has always been gracious and humble, and considerate, but then I’ve never crossed him either. Sad how we as a culture only build up heroes to tear them down; and its really pathetic when we find out like all men, they have feet of clay.
I hope you have a Sunny day. And i am not a fan of violent behavior; its actually antithetical to every reason I still love to surf.
don’t know him,just saw first hand his antics at Teahupoo once,where he was dissastified with his score,what a crybaby,looked like he was going to climb on the reef and go after the judges in the tower.But no different than the rest of the sport world’s celebrities.
Carl, I apologise, when I 1st posted about this subject, just after it happened, the same thing you posted came up, I accept it wasn't you and that other guys would have the same view. I like the more animated chat. I don't mind helping guys with surfboard design stuff, let us have a good old debate as well, I don't think it detracts from the site. It's sort of like tv shows that offend, you can change channels, cheers H.

I dont remember this type of threads in the old forum
but I remember that many in the past asked for a “section” or like that to have these types of threads but without success.
Fair enough, I apologised to him, it was hardly an attack. Things grow and change and I respect the majority. I wont lose any sleep either way, they can do what they want, regards H.
