Hey Paul It was a lot of money but it is cheaper than what it costs to get into some other sports.I thought you were the compsand diehard what happened.I never thought I would see the words poly in one of your posts. It really doesn't matter anyways as long as your havin fun right!!
its all in the shape
glass a composite in poly resin
to much wanking
Karl, silly got the memo that all surfboards (until the end of time) will be constructed from center-stringered PU blanks glassed with a layer or two of e-glass and some polyester resin. It's just the best thing there ever was!
ps - if I did the same shapes I've done for you, except in PU/PE, at the same weights we've given you; how long do you think they'd last?
Well Mike the boards you shaped me give me the confidence to know that I can pretty much go for anything and not worry about them breaking and if the boards were polys they for sure would have been broken and worn out.The boards you shaped me definately without a doubt go real real good. You have it mastered!!!Mike send me some waves I am goin to freak out if nothin comes soon for us florida junkies.
just picked up a Sunova today. It's a bit used but she is in great condition.
6'3" x 19" x 2 1/4" thruster
i'll post again once its been ridden a few times
i have 2 firewires for comparision
hey MD you shaped me a fibreglass bodyboard when you were shaping over off of tomahawk....u remember that by chance? still got that board after over 10 yrs
Welcome to Swaylock's, solobone. You need a Coil to compare to those Firewires and Sunova. We love those comparos...
The Clark bodyboard blank was siamesed, 2 boards from one blank. I still have the other half of the one I used for you, made a tunnel-bottom no-fin thing that I used to ride stand up.
How much did you pay?Where do you live? Why did you buy one? What do you think about the board? Are you in tune with your equipment to be able to feel how it reacts through turns?
Hey Mike....stoked you got some use out of that blank. I still use that board from time to time. It makes a fun stand up bodyboard and goes well in a few of the shallow bowly waves over here.
not quite 20 questions but......
$340
South Shore Oahu Hawaii
tired of P/U boards...like the durability of the my Firewire boards
haven't tried it yet....pintails have been the call all week...maybe tomorrow or tuesday...
as far as feel I think the Firewires feel like regular PU boards down the line but, when you come off the bottom or release the rail from a roundie yeah I can feel the "twang". Sometimes the FW overflexes during hacks & heavy landings but I think that is to be expected. I've also had a ...Lost XTR board with the parabolic stringer that went well. The dims were a bit off for me so I got rid of it. A much different feel than the Firewire as it was a bit stiffer and the reflexe wasn't as noticable even when loaded heavily.
I know it has been a few years since you reviewed the 9’6" Sunova Hangman but I purchased a second hand board 2 + 1 finbox setup 3 weeks ago and was wondering if you stuck with the FCS GL sidebites and a 8" cutaway. The guy I purchased it off was using a single 9" fatboy style fin but it didn’t come with the board. I’ve been using FSC GX sidebites and a standard type 7" out of my 9’ Herbie Fletcher Tommy Dewitt Flexlite and the Sunova has been absolutely great the 7 or 8 times I have ridden it (havenot surfed any other boards since getting it). It has been sugested I try a FCS MR Twin fin set up (not sure about central stabelizer fin) which I am keen to try, but I also want to try ait as a single fin to make sure I’m not missing out on any more of the “magic” that this board has in it.
I have a 9’2" Hangman. Three FCS boxes. Tried thruster fin combinations other that what was recommended, all sucked. Tried the reccomended MRs with small trailer, completley different board. Have since tried a variety of twin fins, the Merrick ones made by True Ames has worked the best for me. Still playing with the trailer. Phenominal longboard. The board rides like no other in my quiver, and I do have a couple of “high performance” longboards to compare it with. Rides more like one of my quad longboards, very fast and responsive. Have had it out in head high surf and I was completley blown away by how much fun it is. The only scary thing is how thin it is.
I would use whatever they recommend for this particular board. PG5 sidebiters with a cut away fin I think. 8" ish or so for the cut away?
Let us know how it works out.
Sorry I din’t report back sooner, but I did track down some FCS MR Twin fins for my 9’6" Hangmanand and use them with a G5 (in FCS converter) in the box. This set up has loosened up the board nicely, initially I missed the (what I now consider excessive?) drive of the “conventional” 2+1 set up but once I got used to the feel of it (have not ridden a twin fin since the 80’s!) I absolutley love it and cant imagine why I would want to change it, not even to try a single fin set up. I would highly reccomend trying a twin + something smaller in the centre as a fin setup in a long board, as Mike_Hawai said (above) it makes a “completley different board”. As a side note, I have not touched Herbie Fletcher since owning my Sunova and have just purchased a 9’2" Sunova Pro with FCS LMT Twins and a G5 (in FCS converter) will be in the box when the surf picks up and I can get to try it out!
