happy new year to all… after a few days camping, surfing, fishing and general relaxing back in bay for me! first job of the ranks was 36 new sprays for my art cat on my web site, you can check them all out at http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm hope they are an inspiration to some! http://www.feraldave.com
just a quick sample http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
Dave, I stumbled across your webpage a month ago (or so). I was blown away by the art on your boards. Good on ya. I threw up a photo of the art I did on one of my boards (inspired by some CD cover art). It is similar to the style of some of your board art.
Dave!..how do you approach a piece of art when you have the stringer to contend with? (graphically, and technically). Some folks incorporate the division as a graphic element. When painting a blank, you don’t paint the stringer. How does that affect any of your choices. (not a profound question, I know, but I have always been curious about different folks’ mindset [and preplanning] when thinking out what they’d like to put on a board). Just curious. aloha, T.
well tom i generally tape up the stringer for any color work, then remove the tape for black. this has just been my personal style as it looks planned, as actually designed for the board. http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
sorry wrong example http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
cool stuff, are most of those printed on rice paper. I think I was some of your boards a SurfRide…“pink is punk” I had to look twice…
the standard cat are all airbrushed, hand painted etc, only the collector art series are printed! http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
Looks like Neon Flux.Great work!
Hey Dave, I went to the catalogue, tried clicking on the individual boards for the enlarged view, only to get a blank pop-up box! Wassup? Like 'em … http://www.speedneedle.com.au
sorry josh dont know whats happening on your machine, its working fine this end, thanks for the comments tho, your stuff is pretty nice too! http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
I really enjoyed looking at your site Dave. Could you help me with one quick question. I make boards in the UK where i have to :Shape, artwork and glass myself but i am having problems with pin lines…I know this may not be your area of design but its becomming a pain. I just want to get quality pin-lines under my belt without having to cover up mistakes. All the best
whats your problem with them? if you shape you should have your eye in and be able to see the lines to keep them clean. when teena was learning she used 3 runs of tape side by side then pulled out the middle. this gave her the even thickness. practice practice practice. http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
tim2003:- The way Dave suggests for getting pinlines is a good one. However the basis for a clean pinline is the first tape you apply as much as the even thickness of gap between the two lines of tape. Its in the practice of reeling out the tape without stretching kinks into it and applying it in clean curves. I’m afraid that takes practice. I dont use a gauge, though it is good for getting the sides even. Careful not to follow the pencil line blindly, cos’ if you havent pencilled your gauge line right, then you will follow a fucked line… http://www.speedneedle.com.au
Dave I think we should take over the world together NO PLAIN BOARDS ALLOWED!!! Hee http://www.speedneedle.com.au
i agree josh, at least i make a return on the sprays! and am appreciated as an artist! http://feraldave.com
just got home from a GREAT gig, pennywise played the last 4 nights straight touring here in oz for thier first shows for the new album, ive known the guys for a few years now, took jim up a great looking 6’6" with sid v on it! the show rocked as always, great to see guys who stood their ground and did what they loved without being run by coporations and made it worthwile! http://www.feraldave.com/DVStand.htm
Thanks for the response, Dave! (Kill your television is right). Say, how’d you get the “line copy” for some of your images…like the Manga-esque characters and the sid vicious and “side on” of some others? all of that free hand? any computer or other aid to get the fab outlines. Nice selection, Brah! good flavors! was fun perusing your site! Aloha, T.
Just foolin’ around this a.m
the line art, as in the girl on the green board with lack on inhibitions, was drawn for me by a friend on a birthday card! a lot of my initial creations get drawn up with the help of photoshop lots of black markers & whiteout. then transfererd to board art by stencils! http://feraldave.com
