Swaylocks inspired, international board.

After watching Singlefin Yellow time and time again an idea came to me…

The concept in singlefin yellow is that Tyler shaped a board, and then sent to a surfing friend somewhere in the world, and the board

travelled the world from surfer to surfer enjoying the waves of the world, along the way the movie single fin yellow was made. Great movie, watch it!

I am definately not the best shaper on here, so I wouldn’t be able to do it, but what about someone on Swaylocks could shape a great board, and we start

a swaylocks inspired version of singlefin yellow. The board gets passed onto various Swaylockians , take some photos, and post them up to have

a history of who and where the boards been surfed with? Their reviews and thoughts about it as well maybe? Possibly sign the board and pass it on to the

next swaylockian to enjoy?

What do you guys reckon? Would this be possible or is it a pipe dream never to come true?

Lavz.

so, where is the travelboard now?? I’d really like to see some pics…

Someone did this in France with a bonzer where, I believe, people gave 5 $ each to finance the raw materials. Then the board has been traveling all over France, Spain and morocco and has been temporarily owned by a dozen different people. There’s a web blog keeping track of all of that. The guy who initiated that occasionnaly posts here on Swaylocks and could tell you more about it.

For those who can understand french , here’s the full story :

Merci Pierre.

You’re welcome.

You may send you check now

Okay, lets make short a long story.

I had an old crappy longboard = 7 years only but quite poor shape and glass job.

Some day, I felt like cutting into the longboard and start making a stubbie out of it.

I Started with my “Frylike” fish template and instead of shapping a deep swallow, I shaped a huge Diamond tail.

Finished to be a 6’0" x 21" I guess.

I had really few possibilities as far as rocker in involved…

So, the board is realy flat.

I shaped a Bonzer3 as bottom contour.

As I was shapping, I thought I really did not need any more board but really felt like shaping a board.

So, I figured I’ll give the board to anyone who’d pay for glassing supplies… Fair deal I guess.

As I spend some times on a french surfing website, I proposed the deal on the board.

And som friend of mine got the idea of sharing the glass price betwin many members and to let the board travel, same thing as Single Fin Yellow.

I asked for 5€ each surfer, as I thought I’d hardly find 20 blokes to play and pay…

At last, 45 accepted the deal so I could glass, pay a board sock, disposable cameras and so on.

I settled rules: three sessions in less than three weeks.

After that, meet another member, share a session and let the board and the good times go.

So far, the board have been riden by about ten people.

It’s been from north to south of atlantic coats in France and for two weeks in Maroco.

Each time a surfer lives with the board for a while, he writes into the blog.

It’s a fun adventure.

If you think you can succed, go for it.

And don’t fotget to visit the blog, ask any questions and get answers.

9’6 wooden hollow from paul jensen and i will throw in 20 bucks if it comes to me. haha.

well would it work…who wants to pay 100 bucks to ship a board?ive been waiting for the ambrose board for a year…i think ten folks had gottin riding rights…i think its in cali, i dont know. i would love to ride it …we were supposta write a story about our time with the board … anybody know if tha abrose swaylock 04 skick is making its way up to oregon?

good luck hope it works

I guess there wouldn’t be that many international transfers…

If board was created in america, circulates america for a while…

america → australia? circulates australia for a while…

I don’t really know where abouts another swaylocks populated country is? so maybe 3 or 4 international transfers…

That could easily be covered by people paying 5 bucks each to have a ride… theres a lot of people out there. I think it would be great, and the stories and photos would show where its been and where it is now.

Lavz

…I’m still waiting for photos of the american board being ridden …???

I’d hope if a similar project was undertaken in Australia [?south and east coasts ?] that maybe at least ONE [or two ] photos of the board in ACTION would get taken ? [or not…]

 ben

it was to be 10 raffle tickets got you a two week turn

its been adveraging about 2 months a stop so far

.matt had it for more like two= months if not more

the Oregon guys are next

as soon as they figure how to get it in their hands

It seems so simple .but we are so regional in our travel attitudes…

international transfers?

A miriad of alternatives…

sailboats twke less than 4 months to cross the entire pacific

yet the california coast is been so slow to traverse…

…ambrose

I coming over to surf Cali for a week in feb and I’d love to have a go. I could even bring it to Europe and maybe someone could bring it on to Oz if international travel is in the grand plan

That would be good. I’m coming back over to ireland soon so could maybe get it to the UK.

KS

I think that there is enough interest and good will to organise this more properly… thats a brilliant idea with people travelling to destinations already, just pickup the board and go with them…

Gotta nut out some finer details i’m looking into but i think it could work out. I’m only a peasant though, I guess I’d have to speak with some higher pappa bears in swaylocks.

I just feel it would be a wonderful project to take on, and for everyone to experience. You hear all those exciting stories about people starting something amazing, well I feel this could be one of those. I think ambrose did a great job with that board circulating america from what I’ve heard, and I’m not trying to detract from that, but I’m thinking of a board that will see many more oceans, share more stokes and perhaps even bring swaylocks and its members international fame and fortune (it could happen?).

Hey Lavz,

The idea is great, but there should be some rules otherwise the same thing might happen to this one like the one that’s taken 6 years to travel 300 miles.

I propose that we start the ball rolling here in Wozzieland and do the Ozzie rounds heading east. More chance of it going from here to say Adelaide, then Melbourne, Sydney, Brissie, Gove then off to SE Asia, Japan etc…

We can set time periods for each member, I’d eventually like to see it come full circle back to Perth even if only gets to travel the western hemisphere…

I’m happy to kick in a blank that I’ve got sitting in my shed.

Don’t just talk about it, let’s just do it…

Now, what shape and dimensions…

not wanting to be a wet blanket or anything , but remember the “swaylocks video” thread ??

…feels like deja vu to me …
